Lesa's Clan
• May. 9, 2007 - 4 days old
These last few days have flown (blurred) by! Gentry is doing very well, the others are adjusting ;) The midwife came by yesterday for a home check and weighed Gentry, still weighs 8lbs 8oz so he lost nothing, no surprise to those who know how he eats! We go in Friday for our 1 week check.
The other kids are adjusting well to a new baby. Lucas loves to "pet Gentry" (Genty in Lucas language), Abagail likes to take pictures of him, Solomon likes to hold him, and Arthur and Katelyn are indifferent. Arthur loves children but not tiny babies, after all he eats, sleeps, poops, and spits up right now so that's not a whole lot of fun for a 10 year old boy.
Today is the first day Colin has gone back to work. I am so tired and it's only 10am. Gentry is sleeping and I'd be too but fear of what the kids would do to the house keeps me awake. I got up this morn at 6:30am and have already washed 3 loads of laundry and cleaned the kitchen. Arthur has to clean the counters but other than that it's clean.
Off to read to Lucas, get a snack, and maybe close my eyes a few minutes...... |

• May. 6, 2007 - Posting more pics of the kids with their new brother
Arthur and Gentry

Solomon and Gentry

Abagail and Gentry

Lucas and Gentry

Gentry studying Solomon

All My Sons

A picture to satisfy Lucas' green eyed monster (he was screaming "I want picture" over and over again and then fell to pieces when he wasn't in every single picture).
I am aware that there is one sibling who isn't holding Gentry, that's Katelyn. Katelyn is special needs and has no interest in holding Gentry, she has been offered but has refused the offers, so instead I just took her picture :)

• May. 6, 2007 - Sunday May 6th
We survived our first night at home with a new baby. He did quite well last night but from 5:30-10:30 this morning he wasn't too pleasant. He nurses very well and very often but has had some gas issues so we got some meds for that and he's much happier. I know I said I'd post pics last night but I just got so tired I decided to wait until today. SO, here's the best pic of his face thus far. I'm going to try to catch him awake at some point today to get more pics.

• May. 5, 2007 - Our Family Adds One
Today Gentry Tobias offically joined our family. We met him at 6:33 am. He has a head of dark hair, dark blue eyes, dark skin, weighed 8.8lbs and is 21 inches long. There were some very strange things with this labor;
1: No back labor
2: I walked into the birthing center at 8cm
3: it still took 5 hours to deliver him
I feel much better now though! We came home around 5pm today so I'm glad to be home. The other kids all enjoyed meeting their new brother and all were arguing about who got to hold him first. I've barely held the child today so I'm looking forward to getting to know him.
My good friend, Angelica, drove way out of her way today to come see us before they headed home from their short weekend trip. My dear MIL came to our house after midnight to stay with the kids until we got home today, she is exhausted and could use some prayer to recover from her weekend before Monday morning! |

• May. 4, 2007 - Skating Day
Today was our homeschool group's last skate day of the school year. The kids had a great time and then we took lunch to the park for them to play more. It was a rather nice day, a good breeze but got hot by 2pm, too hot to stay at the park.
Last night Colin and his brother got the new front door put in. Both thought my mother and I had picked well. I was going to paint it to match the shutters but have decided not to do that now. I'm going to paint it to match the eves, an almost white color. I know it will get dirty faster but it really lightens the front of the house up and if I get tired of the white I can always change the color :)
Contractions continue off and on, more on than off but nothing regular. I'm just going on with life and waiting. I'm taking 3 of the kids to the art museum tomorrow for a free kids program that they really enjoyed last month. I'm hoping Colin can finish the car he's been working on tomorrow, or at least mostly finish. I'd rather that job be done before the baby.
That's all for today! |

• May. 2, 2007 - Just labor excitement?
Here we are just waiting for labor to start,. Came home from church to get the kids fed and in bed, a challenge on an average Wednesday night. Tonight we a bit more exciting. We were home less than 10 minutes when a large boom came from our front room. I was in the kitchen, Katelyn was in the front room, big boys were in their room, Abagail and Lucas were in the playroom. Colin was walking into the front room from the kitchen and saw the front door go flying open! Katelyn started screaming, the dog was barking, and Colin tore off out of the front door and down the street. Aparently a group of highschool boys juiced one boy up (Colin caught up to 3 of the pack of boys, none of them were the ones who kicked our door in) and dared him to try to kick our door in. Well, he did. NOW, on top of baby needs we have to go buy a new front door!
I need no reminder of WHY I am raising my boys to act like young men and not heathens lead by other heathens who can see no farther than the end of their noses. |

• May. 1, 2007 - Shocking News
I got a call this morning from my Mother informing me that a childhood friend had died yesterday. She has been through a lot both physically and mentally for the last 15 years but she was only 29. I'm not posting names just yet but please lift her family up in prayer, God will know who you are talking about. Her parents have headed to wear she was living to close up her life while in a strong state of shock.
I also saw my midwife today. News is that whenever the baby is ready is fine. I think I'm ready! I had lost a pound and continue to have on again off again contractions. |

• Apr. 28, 2007 - Saturday update
Well, I've had a great whirlwind weekend. My friend, Angelica, came on town on Wednesday around 3pm and we took the kids to church Wednesday night. Once we got home with the kids we went to Target and Walmart, stayed up till around 1-2am. Thursday we took our group to Cracker Barrel for breakfast/lunch. We fed 2 adults and 6 kids for about $30! We then headed over to let the kids play at an indoor play place, then a few errands and then home again. We headed out almost as soon as Colin got home for my baby shower. This was fun and, well, interesting :) We played a few silly games (just so that you all know I am 12 squares of toilet paper around) had lots of laughs, ate a great dinner, and had some tasty desert. We stayed out too late for sure. Friday morn was exciting. I had what felt like real labooring contractions from 8am-1pm, of course as soon as I finally decided these might really be the real thing and started packing a bag they stopped! We lounged, let the kids play outside, ate japanese for lunch, watched a few movies with the kids on Angelica's large TV screened size computer and just hung out in general. Friday night we left Colin and the kids with pizza and had manicure/pedicure treatment. This was great. I needed that massage chair after all those contractions and my feet look so nice (my hands do also). We then went for steak but unfortunately they mistreated Angelica's and she was unable to eat it :( We substituted with a large brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup, yum. After dinner we headed back to Target but I was so tired that we headed on home soon afterwards. Angelica actually said we were no fun cause, well, we both feel old (Colin and I) and tired by midnight! She put up with our tiredness and let us go to sleep but needed help later on as one of her pups had a seizure, unfortunately both dogs at one point or another had seizures while at my house. Saturday we ate at Panera and let Angelica use Wi Fi to check her e mail. We then ran more errands till we had to get the girls and Lucas from Colin and then took them to run errands and eat lunch followed by more errands. Angelica headed home right at 5pm.
All of that in only 4 days. I need a rest now!
I'm still having irregular contractions but I know they are doing something. I've never gone early but I only have 2 weeks left now, either I will go early and you all will meet this new baby soon, or I will deliver ON TIME, which is something else I don't normally do. |

• Apr. 25, 2007 - Our First Day with Adderal
| Today was our first day using Adderall XR with Arthur. I have taken him to a psychologist after years of dealing with difficulties in his learning assignments. Finally after much prayer and discussion we decided to use some meds to see if they helped. Wow. Arthur had all of his chores and his math work done before lunch. The day before without meds his math work alone took over 3 hours and several crying fits. He was a bit sluggish but also happy because he got to play his Bionicle game on the computer, a reward the kids get only after all work is done. Having Arthur be so productive made the whole day more pleasant. I don't feel like I've been zapped even though I folded 4 loads of laundry, put 3 away, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned out the car, I even cleaned the oven! On top of that I helped Abagail for an hour with her school work and helped Arthur with his math. Productive day for sure. I am now impatiently awaiting my friend Angelica's weekend visit. She is set to arrive tomorrow afternoon and will stay until either Saturday or Sunday, I haven't asked. I plan to enjoy the company greatly as Colin has been working so many late nights. |

• Apr. 24, 2007 - Some Pictures, or not
Ok, this blog is new but I'm going to try to insert some pics of our family.
This past weekend I had Katelyn, Abagail, and Lucas and we went to a local park to play while Colin, Arthur and Solomon worked on that camaro. Did I tell you that my husband let my 10yo son WELD? Not something a mother would have done!
Ok, I have spent 20 minutes trying to get 2 pics on this and being that I'm SOOO computer savvy I have yet to figure out how. Anyone want to explain?

• Apr. 23, 2007 - Our 2007-2008 Homeschooling Year
I figured I would post where we are at now with what we are doing for our next homeschooling year.
We are using a curriculum called Winter Promise. We are doing the unit American Story 1. We have already done My Father's World Adventures and while I enjoyed parts I don't feel like it got my kids hearts, an important part of learning in my opinion. For our Language we will use Winter Promises LA 1 and 3. We will also be using Elementary Apologia science, Botany the first half of the year and Zoology 1 the second half and then some of the year. Add to that a great book called Honor Your Father and Mother from Doorposts, a Day by Day bible for Solomon to read, Keys for Kids for Arthur, Rosetta Stone for at least Arthur and Solomon, Singapore math 4, 2, and 1, handwriting will be memory verses from both a kit called a Ruby Doll Kit and a book called Plants Grown Up (both also from Doorposts). This should keep us plenty busy for the school year!
I also wanted to include my 3 most recent homeschooling links.
Don Potter Education Page (TONS of FREE downloads)
Hands of a Child (fabulous lap books)
Jeannie Fulbright (author of Elementary Apologia books with more FREE printables)
ENJOY! |

• Apr. 23, 2007 - First Entry
Upon some encouragement I am starting a blog. I'm not a very blogging kind of person (haven't updated my website since August 2006) but maybe this will be a turning point!
As a kind of intro to those that don't "know" me here is a short description of our family.
My name is Lesa and I'm married to Colin, we have been married 12 years now (woohoo!) and have almost 6 children. Colin's day job is auto body repair. His passion is restoring old cars. He's working on a Camaro right now, I will get him to take a pic when he's done and post it online here. I think it is plainly obvious my day job is raising children. We are Christian homeschoolers raising our children to first and foremost love the Lord. We are very thrilled that Arthur and Solomon's names have been added to the Book of Life. Abagail is close to giving her life to Christ also! My hobbies are drooling over homeschool curriculum and reading to our children. Now, for some info on our kids! Our oldest is 12 year old Katelyn. 3 words to describe her are strong, thin, and happy. She has global brain damage from seizures but has made remarkable strides though sometimes they are also struggles. She is learning on the level of a 3-6 year old child but has a wonderful happy spirit (most of the time, she is 12 afterall!). Our second child is 10 year old Arthur. 3 words to describe him are active, creative, and sensitive. He is a constructing kid, loving Legos, Knex, and now big into board games. He has also taken a love to reading (yeah!) and mostly likes science fiction and fantasy (goes well with his mind). He plans on designing cars when he grows up. Our third child is 7 year old Solomon. 3 words to describe him are strong, determined, and organized. He is the opposite of his older brother yet compliments him sometimes, and contradicts him other times. He wants to be a firefighting football player when he grows up. To Solomon all animals are to be treated with care, he will allow bugs to be killed only when he can't find a way to save them and will spend an hour or more moving caterpillars to keep his siblings from harming them. Our fourth child is 5 year old Abagail. 3 words to describe Abagail are princess, frilly, and pink. She is full girl. One interesting thing with her is she is much like her very boyish 10 year old brother Arthur and yet total opposite. Abagail is just learning to really read but lives in a land of Princesses, rainbows, babies, and anything that sparkles. She is a gifted artist both with drawing and singing. Look for her on a large stage later in her life. Our fifth child is 2 year old Lucas. 3 words to describe Lucas are relaxed, strong, and focused. He's an odd combination of our children. He knows at least 5 letters and 5 numbers to identify, some colors, and can put most any peg type puzzle together not even looking at the FRONT of the pieces. This entertains me greatly! He loves his Cars cars (McQueen, Mater, Miss Lucy, Boost, and The King), balls, our chickens, and being outside. We are awaiting our 6th child sometime around May 11th. |
