Diagnosis - Diabetes
Posted in Diabetes
Joshua and I have just returned from the doctor's office. They did a non-fasting blood and urine test on him. His numbers were so high that they were not measurable. The test measures to 500 and his is higher than that. Normal is 80-110.
Since his numbers are so high, they are wanting to get him back into normal range. We will be leaving shortly to admit him to UNC hospital. While we are there, we will be learning more about his diabetes and how to manage it.
I greatly apologize for sharing the news this way. I know some of you will read this before I have a chance to call. I'm sorry.
Please pray for us as we walk this new path. I'm not surprised. I felt like this was coming, and that mommy intuition is so often right. I know this is not a surprise to God and that He is holding us in his hands. His is good, true and faithful.
I'll update more as I'm able to from the hospital.
Blessings
Leslie

Leslie, I am praying for little Joshua and for all of you. I know it's not the news you wanted, but would it help you to know I've known two families recently with similar scenarios and the children are now thriving and well. It seems so trivial for me to say that in light of your having to deal with it personally right now, but I just know you all will handle this with the same strength you've always had.
What can I do? Can I bring food? Do you need any help with anything child care wise or shopping or anything? I wish I could do something. I am off on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays and Sundays. Please call me if I can do anything for you. I'll be in touch.
Love,
Lynn

There is a relationship between diabetes and celiac sprue. (Google diabetes + celiac or diabetes + gluten) Please consider having your child screened for celiac (a ttg blood test). A gluten free diet may ease some of the diabetes symptoms.

oh Leslie, praying for you and Joshua this am. my 1st cousin's 11 year old daughter has been dealing with this for the past 2-3 years as her count was found in the greater than 500 range also. these are people who were terrified of going to the dr. now it is a very controlled, every day way of life that they have learned beautifully. Kendall has remained very active in dance and has plans to be a nurse so that she can help others with diabetes. she can administer her own shots and is doing great. thankful that this has been caught and that things go smoothly for you and Joshua during this process. love and prayers, aj
