• Oct. 24, 2006 - So this is a habitat ...
The people came home late tonight. They moved me away from my
lamp and started opening packages. They bought me a
habitat. I'm supposed to live in there. It's better than a
basement, I guess.

There is sand in the bottom, then a layer of sand mixed with grit and
rock chips. They added more rock chips and some small river rocks
off to the side. I also have a fake tree stump with lots of holes
to crawl through. They even gave me my own pond. This is
way better than a basement!
It took me a little while to get used to it, but after about ten
minutes of checking out the inside of the stump, I decided to creep
outside to explore this place.

I discovered that the pond water is very tasty. I drank and
drank, moving my jaws up and down much like a dog or cat. Then my
people watched while I moved the water down through my digestive
tract. Oops! I drank too much and spat some of it back
out. How rude of me. But then, they are the ones who won't
quit staring.
The waxworm is trying to get into my tree stump. I'm going to have to do something about him.

• Oct. 23, 2006 - A new home ...
The Tall Man took me to his daughter's
house today. Lots of short people kept staring in the jar at
me. They seemed to be as curious about me as I was about them.
They left me near a lamp and went shopping for something called a
"habitat". When they returned, they opened a small can and
dropped a waxworm in with me. I'm not sure I want to eat
it. It keeps crawling on me. If it doesn't leave me alone,
I'm going to eat it out of spite. Apparently that little can is
full of these things.

They didn't find this habitat thing. They turned out all of the
lights except my lamp and left me alone with this annoying waxworm.

• Oct. 22, 2006 - It really isn't fair ...
I'm not sure how I found myself in
that basement to begin with. The nights have been cold, so I was
looking for a warm spot to spend the winter. There seemed to be
enough food there, so I was all set to settle in until Spring.
I should have waited until after dark to explore, but I was too
curious. The Tall Man found me. He hollered and his wife
came running with a Mason jar. Captured!
The Tall Man put a baggie over the jar and a tight rubber band sealed
the deal. He was kind enough to pop some holes in the top.
They weren't big enough for me to squeeze through, though. I
tried. My jar was placed on a desk and The Tall Man
called his daughter. He called me a "homeschool project" and
agreed to give me away. Well, that's gratitude. I come to
live in the Man's basement to eat the bugs and he gets rid of me.
Harumph!
