a tag and whatever else there is...
Ok first off I got tagged by TnBabyGirl. Now usuall I like tags, but this one is kind of hard I realized! But here goes:
Here's the rules:
Link to the person who tagged you. (sorry idk how!)
Post the rules on your blog. (check)
List 6 unspectacular quirks you have. (hmm...)
Tag 6 bloggers by linking to them (again idk how).
Leave a comment on each blog to let them know they were tagged.
1) I apsolutally canNOT stand having lights on when nobody is using them so I'm constantly going around our house and turning lights off.
2) Ok, this is really hard. Umm...Oh ok. When I find a book I really like I'll read it five times then when I've memorized it I just skim through it and read my favorite parts :)
3) Having wet hand towls to "dry" your hands off in the bathroom! That so annoying, I mean, why have hands towls to "dry" your hands off if it's wet?
4) A while back when we would drive for a long time i would count as far as I could on the little marks in the middle of the road, weird I know. Then I got tired of doing it.
5) Almost done! My dad taught me how to "restart" a board game when you're losing by "accidentally" tripping on the board. lol! I've never tried it though, I'm not sure that was quirky...
6) I will do ANYTHING not to play monopoly! Urrr I hate that game! I will play games all day if I have to in order not to play that.
Ok, and here's the people I tag:
1. EowynDernhelm
2. ChristineDaae
3. fairybookworm
4. Angie05163
5. luckyme

Guess what??????!!!!!!!!!!
My story that I wrote last year for school got PUBLISHED!!!!!!!! I was SO excited!!!!! Here it is if you want to check it out:
Essie’s Watch
Essie opened the mailbox, a mile from her home, and to her excitement she found a small box.
“Oh, how pretty!” Essie exclaimed as she opened the little box that held her new watch. She admired it for only a minute, though, before hopping back on the horse and heading for home. She needed to get home quickly because she still had a few chores to do.
Essie Staten lived on a farm near
Essie loved her home with all her heart, and was very proud of it. Her favorite spot was a little grove of trees right beside the pond. That’s where she spent her free time reading, drawing, and daydreaming about the watch she ordered. She had been selling tins of Cloverine Salve Cure-All from the General Store’s catalogue to earn money for the watch.
She did not have that many fancy things, but when she got one, she treasured it very highly. The watch was very special.
~***~
She ran into the kitchen where her mother had just pulled an apple pie from the oven and was mixing up a cake for the church potluck on Sunday afternoon.
“Look Mama, if finally came in!” she hollered with so much excitement she almost bumped the table over.
“Good heavens child! You have got to be more careful in here! Now let me see the mail.”
Mama took the mail, ignoring the box on purpose, and started looking through the pile.
Essie waited patiently, but her patience was going to run out soon.
Mama saw her anxiety and smiled to herself.
Finally, Mama went back to mixing the cake and Essie tapped her on the arm.
“Oh yes, what was it that you wanted me to look at Essie?” She could not help it any longer; she let out a big laugh!
Essie did not think it was so funny but played along. She put on the watch and showed it to her mother.
“Oh my! That is one fancy watch for such a little girl.”
“Oh Mama, I’m almost fourteen and a lot of the other girls have fancy things!”
“I know! I’m just teasin’ you. But still my little baby girl is growin’ up so fast!”
Essie was the youngest and her mother never let her forget it!
She had two older siblings, George, who was the oldest, and Garnet who Essie always looked up to.
“Just remember, don’t wear it to school. Between the horse and the play yard who knows what would happen to it. Now go gather the eggs, I need to finish this cake.”
Essie went to her room that she shared with Garnet and laid it on top of her dresser with great care.
“How I wish I could wear it to school. I would show it to all the other kids and get a lot of attention and some respect,” she thought to herself.
She went outside to the henhouse.
“This is the worst job there ever could be!” she decided as the chickens started pecking at her legs. But it did not bother her as much as usual because she was thinking about what she would wear with her new watch to church tomorrow.
~***~
The next day, as she was looking in the mirror, Garnet yelled up to her.
“Essie it’s time to go!!!!”
“I’m comin’!!!!!!!!” she yelled back a little agitated.
“Garnet spends just as much time in the mirror as I am now, but then again she got up an hour before me,” she concluded.
“What are you wearing, Essie?” asked Dad as the whole family got into the carriage.
“Didn’t Mama tell you, my watch finally came in.” she answered.
“It’s awfully pretty for a girl your age, but it is the only piece of jewelry that you own so it is okay. But make sure you don’t grow up too fast!” he said with a laugh as he looked at her and then Mama.
~***~
On Monday morning Garnet and Essie were getting dressed for school.
“We better hurry up Essie, or we’ll be late,” cried Garnet.
“Yeah, I know, I’m hurryin’!” she grumbled as she stared at her new watch.
“Oh how I wish I could wear that watch!” she thought. “Okay, I’m just going to wear it today, just to show my friends. Nobody will tell on me and Mama will never find out,” she decided as she was interrupted by her mother.
“Essie, Garnet, you better get going!!!”
“Comin’ Mama!” they both called.
Essie slipped her watch into her pocket and hurried down the stairs with Garnet.
Essie rode her horse a little slower than Garnet and George until she was far enough behind to stop and put on her watch.
“Whoa, Trixie,” she exclaimed.
She slipped the watch on and rode faster to catch back up.
~***~
She hopped off Trixie and ran inside the small red schoolhouse just as the bell was being rung.
“Okay class, as many of you probably know, today we have pictures. So please go see Mr. Hunt to get your instructions. Boys on this side and the girls on the other please,”
Essie lined up with the girls.
“Now girls, you are going to sit at the table and put one hand on top of the other like so. Got it?” Mr. Hunt instructed as he crossed his hands to demonstrate.
“Yes sir,” the girls replied as they checked one another’s hair.
Essie’s friend, Ivy, helped her fix her barrette. She was very happy she did, too. Now she would look nice for her picture. She was also glad she had chosen the hair style she had worn that day.
~***~
A week later Essie rode to the mailbox and found a large envelope addressed to her.
“I wonder what this is,” she pondered as she hastily opened it. The excitement she had soon turned to horror as she saw her school pictures in the envelope and on her wrist was the watch that she had been forbidden to wear to school.
“Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally forgot that I had the watch on when I had my picture taken! What will Mama say?” she asked herself with dread.
~***~
At home she walked into the dining room to find her mother folding laundry.
“Here’s the mail, Mama,” she replied softly.
“What’s wrong, Essie?” she asked with concern.
“You’ll see when you open the envelope,” she replied. It was too painful to even say what was inside.
Her mother opened the envelope. It took her only a moment to realize what had happened. She put the envelope down on her lap and looked at Essie.
“I’m sorry Mama, I just wanted to show all the school girls my new watch,” she whispered as a tear rolled down her cheek.
“I know, but you do know you have to have a talkin’ to by Dad, don’t you?”
“Yes, Mama,” she said with dread.
For Essie a good talkin’ to was worse than a whippin’ any day.
~***~
Mama set Essie’s school picture on the fireplace mantel along with George and Garnet’s. Essie looked at it often and always remembered the time she had disobeyed Mama.
But anywho, nothing else going on. Just school...and more school...and more school. I think High School is finally starting to pile on me. History and science have been my two most time consuming subjects. I've enjoyed my history at least. Science...well not so much. Some if it is interesting, but memorizing all these phylums (I'm taking biology this btw) that I can't even say has been kind of annoying!
Hmm, I'm going hunting this weekend, first time of the season! I'm pretty excited, season started at the beginning of November and ever since I've been wanting to get out there!
Oh and I've been a horrible blogger latly, so I'll have to get better at posting in my blogs more often!

Hmmm, lets see....
Not much goin' on. School and co-op (first year and i LOVE it!!!!!). Soccer on the weekends, piano/choir during the week. I've been volunteering at a local vet, that has been pretty cool! And then I'm counting down the days until our vacation! We leave exactly a week from today. Which is next Friday. We're going to Auburn, Alabama for the football game, I am sooo excited! I love their accent, and it's so catchy too! After a week in the south I have their accent, don't know how, must be b/c of my dad. Anywho after a weekend in Alabama we're going to Florida for a whole week!!!! I cannot wait, we havn't had school for that long, and I'm already super tired of it! Well that's all, I thought I'd throw in a post since I was doing nothing for once!
Oh wait, I have started two other blogs: The Adventures of Jordan and Adelina (my current story, although I HATE the title of the blog, so DO NOT START CALLING IT THAT!!!!) and then the other one has no title yet, it is a new story that popped into my head and before I knew it I had the entire story mapped out, weird huh? So if you would please stop by =)

Long time no post!!!
Ok, I've not posted in quite a while, I suppose it's time to. But nothing very dramatic has happened...oh wait something did (it just popped into my head)!!! We saw John McCain! Well I didn't I had to leave my mom and my grandfather did!! They went and saw him and Sarah Palin at a baseball field like right around the corner from where my aunt lives! My dad and I had to leave b/c we had to go watch my cousins football games. But yeah that's practically all that has happened, and I guess school started.
The Auburn Tigers have had kind of an odd season so far even though they've played only two games. They won both, they were playing nobody teams, but they should've beaten them by a lot more than they should've. Kodi Burns and Chris Todd are our two QBs. But Kodi Burns in the first game got stiches in his leg from a seven inch cut by someone else's helmet!! Isn't that kinda crazy??? He's alright but now Chris Todd is the starting QB.
And then I have a tag from MrDarci:
What is your favorite book of the Bible? I like Nehemiah
What are you most afraid of? Um getting hit in the face with a softball while pitching in a game, I got hit in the shin last year and havn't really recovered from that one!
What makes you the maddest? When people leave lights on! Drives me nuts!
What do you think is the worst kind of evil? Evil is evil (my mom helped me answer that one!)
What would be considered your theme song? I don't think I have one
If you had to choose a villian to team up with, who would it be? I thought on that one and I really have no idea!
Do you think this Tag was creepy? I have to agree with MrDarci that last question was really weird!
Ok and I tag:

Chapter 5 and other stuff...
Lets see first of all I would like to mention that my little brother has now started a blog, his username is tigerfan1. So he would be really happy if you would "friend" him and comment him. Thanks!
OK next about what's been goin' on. Well not much. Other than VBS and me having to take over b/c my mom had emergency surgery! That was all very, very eventful and well down right crazy. But yeah she had her gall bladder removed two days before VBS started. It was unexpected and her being the director I had to take over b/c I was the only who knew what was goin' on and what else there was to do. But thankfully VBS went smoothly and she is feeling MUCH better!
Oh and I COMPLETELY lost my voice, I don't know how, but it's totally gone and it sounds like a frog is stuck in my throat =/ not cool.
And now for the chapter, it's finally a "long" one:
Chapter 5-More Troubles
“Here are some more books
“Oh those are my favorite kind, about the knights, thank you very much!”
“’Tis small favor, but you’re welcome all the same,” he walked off.
It was sunny and warm, but a cool breeze hit his face and ruffled his hair.
It had been six years since they had landed here and the little village had grown. It was still considered part of Bamburgh, but now had smith and small places that sold different sorts of food.
He saw Adelina in the smith, and ran over there.
“Adelina, I got more books!” he called.
“Ooh, I’ve been looking forward for more!” she said eagerly.
“Hello, can I help you with somethin’?” asked a boy about their age. He had blonde hair and the bluest eyes Adelina had ever seen.
“Um yes, thank you. I need this mended,” Adelina said as she held up a harness for the horse. It had torn apart from use in one place. She handed it to him.
“Okay, it won’t take too long if you want to stay. By the way, my name is Fabian, my father owns this place,” he said.
“Nice to meet you Fabian, I’m Adelina and this is my friend Jordan,” she answered pointing to herself then Jordan.
Fabian went into the back and told his father about the harness then came back.
“So where do you come from? Obviously by your accent you’re not from around here,” asked Fabian.
“We’re from
“Born and raised on the outskirts of
They carried on their conversation for a little while when Fabian’s father gave Adelina the fixed harness.
“Her you go ma’am,” he said.
Both Adelina and Jordan had grown, they were now both 16.
She thanked him then paid him.
“So do you mend things?” asked
“I actually make and mend swords, it’s my specialty. My father mostly does farm supplies,” replied Fabian.
“That’s really cool! I’ve always wanted to work with swords,” said
“Yeah, I really like it,”
“Are you skilled at fighting with a sword?”
“I practice with it whenever I have time!” Fabian said proudly.
“I envy you! I wish I could do that instead of farming. How good are you? And be honest,”
“Well, honestly,” he started, making sure he used ‘honest’, “I practice so much I can’t really tell you. I’m not good at all with farm supplies like Father, and that’s all the work around here. Although that’s going to change because I’ve got to start helping out with all the work around here. But I’d have to brag that I’m pretty darn good.”
“Do you practice against others?”
“Do you?” he asked with eagerness, “I haven’t found anybody!”
“Yes I do actually, but I don’t think my skills could match yours!”
“Ah come on! I would just be happy fencing with anybody, no matter how bad you are!” he teased.
Jordan laughed at that remark.
“No, sorry, but I’m still working and this is the heat of the entire planting season because of the harvest,” he said regretfully.
“Yeah, I know what yah mean. That’s about the 15th harness brought in today,” he said pointing to the harness Adelina was holding, “You guys really abuse those things!”
“Well they do a lot of work!” Adelina said.
They talked for a while longer and became good friends, having much in common.
“I need to get home,” said Adelina looking at the sun.
“Yeah my ma will be wonderin’ where I am,” said Fabian.
Jordan started walking home with Adelina.
“So what’s your father going to do after everything’s harvested?” asked Jordan.
“Just like every year,” she said surprised he asked he knew what he would do: nothing. “I’m starting to worry,” she told him in a troubled tone.
“Is that something new?” he asked sarcastically, then seeing her face he said “I’m sorry, but really you need to lean on God further.”
She nodded.
“Will you finish walking me home Jordan?” she asked.
He looked at her seriously and saw her frightened eyes. He had known her his entire life and never seen her like this.
“What’s wrong Adelina?” he asked with much concern. He even stopped her, stood in front of her, and stared into her eyes.
“I think you ought to see for yourself.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They walked up the dirt path. It was late afternoon and still warm outside. There were wildflowers still scattered in the lush, green grass. And it smelt like that wonderful summer smell. Although they both knew it wouldn’t last much longer.
They had to expect the hard winter that was staring them in the face.
Immediately though the beautiful scenery was ruined by the noise of things crashing, it was coming from the barn.
They both started to head for the barn when Adelina’s father stepped out.
He wasn’t in very good shape. He had dirt on a shirt that looked like he hadn’t changed for a few weeks. His thin dark hair was sticking to different directions.
“What are you looking at!?!?!?!!!!!!” he screamed at them. He then walked into the house and they heard more crashing.
They walked into the barn.
It was a very small barn. The only thing inside it was the horse and other supplies. There was also a part of the barn that was covered with bags of feed for the animals.
They sat on a trunk near where the horse was kept.
“What’s happened to him?” asked Jordan with a confused look.
“Well that’s one of the reasons I’ve been going to fix everything, not that I actually need it that bad, but to get away from him. He’s been in a bad mood ever since we got here so long ago, but just a few months ago he came up the path shouting and stumbling in the middle of the night. He was coming from Bamburgh. I watched him for a while and then he fell right outside the door,” she paused for a moment, “I went to try and help him and when I got to him, he pushed me away. Jordan, he had been drinking.”
His face showed astonishment.
“He always leaves right before dinner and comes home very early in the morning.”
“Does he working during the day?” Jordan asked.
“Little,” she answered. Tears were now running down her cheeks, no matter how hard she tried not to let them fall.
He grabbed her hand. But as soon as he touched the inside of her palm, pain gripped at his heart. For his eyes saw Adelina’s scab covered and blistered hand.
“Oh Adelina!” he said barely able to keep his many emotions under control. He felt anger, pain, and worry. But he checked himself before saying, “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“It wasn’t a problem until a few weeks ago when he stopped working. Jordan, he’s always been cold against me, but he has never ever abused me.”
“What?” he asked almost angrily.
Adelina knew Jordan. He wouldn’t go off and do something he would later regret like she herself would do.
She clung to him, her hair flinging with her, and started crying uncontrollably. They stayed like that for a while.
“What do you mean by ‘abuse’?” he asked in a whisper.
He was very concerned now about her safety, but kept calm. He had been thinking about how to help her, but he knew how stubborn Adelina was, she wouldn’t’ accept any help at all.
Her head was on his shoulder; she put her lips up to his ear and whispered so low he could barely hear her, “He hit me with the whip.”
Jordan said nothing, to make sure his temper wouldn’t get the best of him. This ordeal was going to make his decision even harder to tell Adelina. So he didn’t ever say anything.
The crickets came out on one of the last warm summer nights, they both heard them as they sat there in the barn.
I hope you enjoyed the new character, Fabian. And please comment!
ok....
This is pretty funny...
You Know You Live In 2008 When:
1.) You accidentaly enter your password on a microwave.
2.) You haven't played solitare with real cards for years.
3.) The reason for not staying in touch with your friends is they don't have a screenname or a myspace.
4.) You'd rather look all over the house for the remote instead of just pushing the buttons on the TV.
6.) Your boss doesn't even have the ability to do your job.
7.) As you read this list, you keep nodding and smiling.
8.) As you read this list, you think about sending it to all your friends.
9.) And you were too busy to notice number 5.
10.) You scrolled back up to see if there was a number 5.
11.) Now you are laughing at yourself stupidly.
12.) Put this in your page if you fell for that, and you know you did.
my 4th of July!!!
I had a lot of fun this 4th of July. We went to Missouri to visit family, which we hadn't done for a while. But it was partly because my great-grandmother (well we call her Granny actually) turned 90, so we had a big birthday party for her!
But we went to see the fire works and were almost late, so we were walking around trying to find a place where there weren't any trees in the way! Since my grandfather lives on the Missouri River they were shooting them off from the other side. There's also a rail road track right beside the river, so we sat right behind it on these extra tracks that were just stacked up. We had been sitting there for like 2 minutes (remember we had been walking around for a good 5 minutes!) and all of a sudden we head a train whistle! So we all hurry and get out of the way, b/c the train would've been like 3-5 feet in front of us, so we waited 5 MORE minutes before the train got out of the way. We couldn't really see the fireworks during that time b/c of the train. So after it passed, we could sit back down, but everybody was kind of looking around a lot just to make sure another train wasn't coming from the other direction, and if it had it would have been literally a foot in front of us.
But it was a pretty awesome 4th.
Lesson 13 and Chapter 4...finally!!!!
Ok sorry I've not posted a lesson or a chapter for a VERY long time, they were already typed and ready to post, but I just never got around to it for some reason! I hope you enjoy!!
Lesson 13
Whose POV answers:
- Sarah
- Tom
- Both
The Calling of Samuel (1 Samuel 3) with a different POV:
It was dark, being the middle of the night at the Tabernacle, so I couldn’t tell who it was at first. So I went to investigate. I was a curious young mouse then.
I caught a glimpse of the intruder just as he entered a room in which Eli, a priest, slept. It was Samuel. He was a very kind young boy who fed me crumbs every now and then. He had been working here in the Tabernacle since he was six.
This was the second time Samuel had come in the night and gone to Eli claming to have heard Eli calling him.
I listened to their drowsy conversation:
“Here I am, you called me,” Samuel said.
Eli awoke, a little confused.
“Are you sure you’re not just hearing things?” Eli asked.
“I know I heard a voice!”
“I did not call, go back and lie down.”
I saw Samuel tip toe back to his bed.
I skittered to the other side of the room and curled into my usual ball on top of a few strips of fabric.
I remember being woken up when a foot stepped right in front of me. It had scared me to death to shere I jumped and bumped the wall.
After gathering my wits, I, again, pepped around the corner of Eli’s bedroom. It was Samuel, again!
They had started their conversation and I heard Eli’s stunned voice:
“It was the Lord!” he whispered, “Go and lie down, if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening’”
I again saw Samuel go back to his bed.
I stayed awake, hoping I too would hear His voice, but a while after waiting, I heard it:
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”
And here's the chapter, sorry it's not very long...
Chapter 4 – The Work Begins
It was mid-spring, making it time for planting. Adelina’s father had bought two goats, a few chickens, a horse, and a lot of lumber to build a barn. She suspected her father had gotten the money from the plates, quilt, and her mother’s things.
Adelina plowed two weeks after her father had softened the dirt up a bit. She had blisters from the wood and peck marks from the chickens. She did this while her father built the barn. “The only good thing about all this is that it’s not very hot yet,” Adelina reasoned with herself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Schoner hugel,” said Adelina in a drowsy tone.
“Aye, it is that indeed!” he paused a moment, “Why is your father treating you like this Adelina?” he asked out of nowhere.
“Oh I don’t really know, but I suppose everything that has happened to him has hardened him, “she replied in a matter of fact way.
It had started to get warmer and the light breeze that cooled their faces was welcome. They were sitting on the side of a hill that was full of lush green grass, and wild flowers that had seemed to come up over night. It gently sloped down before coming to the small amount of flat land that had a few willow trees before starting up another hill.
This is where they always met for their lessons.
“Well we better get started on our lessons,” began
“Let’s get with it then,” Adelina replied with a lazy tone.
They started their lesson with greeting in English. Adelina had mastered that part.
Adelina yawned and couldn’t think anymore. She couldn’t remember any of the words that she had mastered almost a week ago.
“I think we better stop,”
Adelina didn’t think it that funny. She started to list all the things that hurt on her body to him: “head, hands, feet, skin, it even feels like my hair hurts!”
“I’m sorry,” he said ashamed of himself, he immediately sobered.
The sun was starting to set, giving a yellow glow to the flowers. Both of their hair had gold on the tips.
It was a summer sunset.
“You’ve been asking about me, what about you
“Well Baldric is very nice to me, along with the other monks. I pay for my own food from working in the fields. I’ve started to feel bad for living with them. I asked Baldric about it the other day and he said it was his duty to God to take care of orphans,” he leaned back on his elbows, “Honestly he’s brought me closer to God too. My parents obviously taught me about Him, but….oh I guess you know too.”
Yes Adelina remembered not having enough time to go to church during the warmer months because of planting and then in the winter months the snow was too high for them to even get out the door.
“Why don’t you come to services?” he asked.
“Father never really has been one to attend services, not saying he’s not a God-fearing man, plus he doesn’t understand what they’re saying. I’ve tried to teach him English, but you know him, won’t except any help from anybody, not even his own family. I don’t always catch everything in the service either,” she said. She yawned again.
They both lay on their back. Then Adelina looked at him and he looked at her.
“Are you going to stay here even when we’re older?” Adelina asked abruptly.
“Yes, I think so. But I think we both ought to get home,” he answered simply.
The sun was almost behind the hills bathing them in an orangish, yellowish haze.
She tips over the pot and pulls out the flower and chews on it. We've lost a few plants that way =(
And that's about all, I think I'm going to post a lesson either tomorrow or Thursday, and this time I promise I will!!
this was so much fun
Ok on Mon night all three of us (us including my two little brothers and I) had a game. So my dad being out of town my mom had to find somebody to take me to my game. So someone from church took me to the game. We played only 5 innings. I pitched 4 of them, and then nobody would believe where my coach put me!!!!!!! She put me at catcher!!! Ok I've never played catcher in my entire life! What was weird was that the girl who caught for me, pitched the last inning. So now we appreciate each other's job. I actually kind of liked it, I only missed a few balls, and I almost threw someone out at 2nd...that's pretty amazing since I can't throw that well =) As far as batting goes I got bumped up to 4th batter since our usual 4th batter wasn't there. I stole home 2 times and hit a double, so I was pretty happy with the way I played.
• Jun. 5, 2008
Have you heard about our "lake"???
So this is my little brother's new puppy. Hopefully you can see it!
Thanks to AragornFan I have finally accomplished putting pictures on here! She has been a very interesting experience so far. She tries to eat EVERYTHING!!!!
Last night my game was cancelled due to wet fields. It rained some more yesterday making our back yard "pond" into a back yard "lake". Which really niether are supposed to go. But our vegetable garden is flooded, so we don't know how much of it will survive. Then there are tens of billions of worms in our "lake" so my youngest brother has been "saving" them. This "saving" includes picking up worms about 6 inches long and throwing them all in one place. This kills them and so there are tens of billions of dead worms in one place. So now our back yard stinks like fish and dead worms. So nobody, except my youngest brother, goes back there if it can be helped.
So that's about all that's been happenin' around here.
Rain =(
The last few days it has been so warm and awesome, perfect for all our baseball games. I had a game yesterday and we won by a lot, then both my younger brothers played although only one won. But then last night it stormed, REALLY bad!!!!! It even woke me up because of how loud the thunder was! So it didn't stop till like 10 this morning. And our yard, which is kind of low, is flooded. You could seriously go swimming in our back yard. Although I wouldn't want to becuase there are like a million worms each 6-7 inches long! It was creepy seeing them. I had to walk out to our garden, that just so happens to be in the very back, and I bent down to look at something and there was a worm. So that sounds weird for all the guys, but for us girls, it's bad! And then we got really heavy winds this morning.
But other than that its been pretty good.
I'm going to post a lesson tomorrow...finally!
Memorial Day
I just got home from Missouri for Memorial Day and my grandfather, being the big research guy that he is, found this write up on the song Taps. I thought I'd post this instead of what I did (which I'll post in a few days) for Memorial Day. I know it's kind of long, but it really is worth reading...believe me!
Pass it along if you will please!
If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which taps were played; this brings out a new meaning of it.
Here is something EVERY American should know. Until I read this, I didn’t know, but I checked it out and it’s true:
We in the
But, do you know the story behind the song? If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.
Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men near Harrison’s Landing in
During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a
When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.
The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.
The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.
The Captain had asked if he couldhave a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.
The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.
But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.
The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler toplay a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth’s uniform.
This wish was granted.
The haunting melody, we now know as “Taps” used at military funerals was born.
The wards are:
Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes.
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.
Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.
Falls the night.
Thanks and praise.
For our days.
Neath the sun.
Neath the stars.
Neath the sky.
As we go.
This we know.
God is night.
I to have felt the chills while listening to “Taps” but I have never seen all the words to the song untilnow. I didn’t even know there was more than one verse. I also never knew the storybehind the song and I didn’t know if you had either so I thought I’d pass it along.
I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I did before.
Remember those lost and harmed while serving their country.
Also remember those who have served and returned; and for those presently serving in the armed forces.
Please send this on after a short prayer.
Make this a Prayer wheel for our soldiers…please don’t break it…
Explaining things...
Ok everyone Mrs. Marlow commented on my last chapter and made a very good point. She said that it would probably only take days instead of weeks to get from Germany to England. So if you read the last chapter in my previous entry they landed near Bamburgh, England which is almost in Scotland. So it's pretty far north (Bamburgh is somewhere in there, but it's not shown):
![]()
But where they started in Germany has got a great affect also. I did not pin point what town/city they lived in before moving b/c there was so little time there and it didn't seem that important. But now I guess it is important. So I will think up on that part of the story. But anyway, I had already kind of thought about this fact b/c I knew her mother had to die and it had to be an overall horrible voyage! So I had decided earlier that they live on the other side of Denmark. Denmark is that little finger thing that is sticking out on top of Germany (which is shaded orange). So they had to sail all the way around Denmark and then make their way up to Bamburgh, which takes them into the middle of the ocean since Bamburgh is so far north (path A):
(pppllleeeaaasseee say you can see that picture!)
Now you may or may not have already caught my trouble here. So here it is:
Why didn't they just walk or ride across Germany to the little indention and then sail across the Sea?
I understand that wasn't a very good way of putting it but basically why didn't they take path B(it kind of looks like a D though)?
But that is the problem and I have NO answer for that yet. B/c it probably would've been cheaper just to walk and then sail, so it would be more logical that it happened that way! But like I said I don't know why they wouldn't, but they just did! So if anybody has an suggestions on how that could have happen, feel free! But another option is that I could change it, I do have an alternate plan. So what does everybody think?
Chapter 3-The Start of a New Beginning
It took a week for the ship’s repair. But they were headed for
Adelina avoided her father as much as possible. And he rarely talked to her. If he ever looked at her it was with those cold eyes.
“LAND!!!!!!!!!” yelled a man who was at the front of the boat.
Everybody, including the captain, who was usually not too excited about anything, rushed to the front to see the long awaited land.
They saw a thin strip on the horizon which they all knew was their new home. It was a grayish greenish color, but it was still very inviting after seeing so much of the sea.
The lady’s dresses were stiff, wrinkled, and worn from the voyage. Their hair was in disarray. They men weren’t much better with their torn clothing and uncut hair.
The food smelt like moldy cheese and stale bread and nobody had eaten much of it for the past week because of it.
It took them another week to reach land after weaving around reeves and then the wind stopped for a day.
That week was the longest many of them had ever felt, just to be barely moving was bad enough. But at least it wasn’t very hot or cold.
The ship hit land a day later.
Adelina’s father lifted only two out of the four trunks they had originally brought with them.
“Come along,” he said roughly to Adelina, she quickly obeyed.
She, along with everybody else, kind of swayed back and forth as they walked on land, one of the sailors told them it was because they were all so use to being on the ship.
The landscape was beautiful, although almost dreary because of out wet it was from a spring shower it must have had just the day before. The land was a little muddy but if you looked far off you could see rolling hills with a grassy covering. Overall it was breath taking.
The ship had landed about fifteen miles away from Bamburgh, but there was a very small settlement close to shore.
It wasn’t much to look at though.
“Where is everybody?” Adelina asked herself. In her mind she had pictured playing children and busy streets. But there was only a church, less than a dozen houses, and a well sitting in the middle of it all.
Though the settlement was considered part of Bamburgh, Adelina called it “Schöner Hügel” meaning “Beautiful Hills.”
Since no one had offered to take
A few seconds later he had the feeling somebody was watching him. He jumped around to see a monk.
He was dressed in a brown cloak and he had thin brown hair. He was pleasantly plump and had a twinkle in his eye.
“Oh, I’m sorry to scare you young man, but…” he was abruptly interrupted.
“Wait,” said
“That’s it! How are you speaking German?” he asked relieved he had figured it out.
“Oh I’m very sorry young man. I should’ve introduced myself first,” he talked quick and almost nervously.
“My name is Baldric, I am a monk at that church right over there,” he pointed to the small church that could probably hold less than twenty-five people. But none the less, it was quite tidy by the looks of the garden.
“I couldn’t help myself but to ask you where your parents are young man.”
“My name is
“So,
“Um,”
“Oh you won’t be a bother! You came just before spring. God made it so nice these days that I don’t think you’ll be inside much anyway. Come along!” he continued on and on about the weather, about the boat Jordan had come in and such, but Jordan wasn’t really paying attention, though he nodded his head in agreement with everything.
They walked slowly to the church. They made an odd pair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adelina and her father bought a house that someone had built for new settlers. Lots of people living there had done this for extra money.
Adelina was very tired, but the landscape and their small house was breath taking.
Their new house was set on the outskirts of the small settlement on the side of a hill. The house itself was plain, but the many hills behind it along with the beautiful sunset made the house look more extravagant. Plus the idea of an actual, cozy home and a bed made it inviting after their long voyage.
They stepped inside together and her father set the trunks down.
Surprisingly there was a table with four chairs, a bed with a bunk type bed that fit under it. There was also a fire place, other than that there was nothing, not even a window.
“Unpack and go to bed. I’m going to Bamburgh,” said her father.
“Are you going to get some more furniture or food?” Adelina asked innocently.
“NO!!!” he said with practically a shout.
Adelina suspected he was going to find someone to teach them both to speak English, but she dared not ask.
He stomped down the path towards Bamburgh.
It was still a little light but Adelina needed candles, she went to the two trunks.
When they had originally packed, they had packed four trunks; one with her mother’s clothes and kitchen supplies. Another with herself and her father’s clothing. The other two had had more supplies and memory things like her grandmother’s valuable plates, and the fine sewn quilt.
She opened both trunks and saw that he had brought the ones with their clothes and supplies.
Adelina teared up when she found the plates and quilt not among the things in the trunks.
The tears started to flow, she felt alone. She didn’t know what to do, her father, she felt, was not going to be easy on her because she was a girl or because of her age. Her mother was gone, along with everything she was familiar with.
Adelina slipped into her gown, she neve
