House Building Update #20 :) Moved In!!

Posted in House Building
Baby and I, she had just eaten a chocolate chip cookie...

Hello!!

We moved into the new house last week.  It all happen rather quickly and before I knew it, we were here.  We had a cleaning bee a week ago Sunday and the men moved over a lot of the big items that very same day.  Then on Monday, more friends came and helped and we were able to move a bunch more items and boxes.  I still don't have quite everything here, but most is here.  I need to go with more boxes and pack up my sewing area etc...  We were so blessed to have lots of willing helpers.  God is good!   So we have been here over a week now and enjoying it.

On Sunday, the day we did most of the moving, at breakfast time it was raining and raining hard.  We were not sure if we would be able to move anything that day, but then the rain stopped and the sun came out and we had a blue sky.  So the men took that time and loaded up a pick-up and trailer and moved a lot over then.  We got it all unloaded and then more rain came.  So the afternoon, we spent in more cleaning and the men installed more doors and closet shelves.  The house is not completely finished, but very livable.   We are thankful to the Lord for His abundant blessings!

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Ps. 127:1

House Building Update #19 :)

Posted in House Building
Today the building inspector came by and inspected the new house and gave us the occupancy permit!!  We are rejoicing here in the goodness of the Lord.  He has been so faithful towards us during this whole experience.  We have learned a lot  and seen the Lord's hand through it all.  Next week will be filled with putting in some doors and trim, staining and varnishing the stairs, grouting the tiles in the foyer, and having a cleaning bee.  Also I will pack more boxes from this house in preparation for moving day.  We hope to move in sometime during the last week of July.   I hope to post a picture of the house next week, it is pretty much done on the outside.  You can read all of our house building updates here

I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever:
with my mouth will I make known
thy
faithfulness to all generations.  Ps. 89:1

House Building Update #18

Posted in House Building
It has been a while since I wrote a house update, but to be honest not a whole lot has been happening there this past month.   My husband needed the last two weeks in April to catch up on book keeping so that we could get our taxes done on time.  Then came the month of May which all I can say has been very busy.  Between sickness, our home business, sewing, helping friends prepare for their wedding, has made it all really busy .  The wedding was last Monday and it was a beautiful, my husband was among the groomsmen and our 6 yr old son N. was the Bible boy.  It was a beautiful day!!

Anyway, back to the new house, the only one working there has been the brick layer.  The house is looking lovely and the brick layer is getting very close to being finished.

My parents "in-law suite" is over the garage and they also have great room which is where their entry is as well.  The main part of the house is ours.    The part with all the stone is the garage and my parents part.

The main house

Today, my husband and my dad were working at the new house.  My dad is off work the next two weeks, so we are hoping we can get a lot done and be closer to having the final inspection done.   I have also painted the children's room.  The girl's room is a beautiful pink and the boy's a lovely blue.  I just painted the second coat in the girls room today.  I had started the painting a few weeks ago, but then the children got sick and it lasted around here for 3 weeks.    This week we are hoping to rent one of those large garbage bins and clean up a lot around the house and also prepare a garden plot and start planting.  It will be a busy 2 weeks!  It is exciting to be at the new house again.  Lord willing, we won't have many more house updates, maybe the final one will be moving day, although I may have a few updates after that.    You just never know.

Building this house has given us many lessons and it has been very stressful at times, but God has been good and we have so much to be thankful for.  He is a plan and a purpose for everything, we just need to learn to trust Him more fully.   He is faithful.

House Building Update #17

Posted in House Building
Finally another new house update!  I just check and it was Jan 20/09 when I did the last update and a lot has changed since then. The whole main part of the house is dry walled and painted.  The kitchen is in and it is lovely. We laid tile down in the kitchen and foyer, my husband is/was putting those down.  He just needs to lay a few more in the foyer and then grout it there.  We had the kitchen and eating area done just in time for the new kitchen. Today hardwood was being laid upstairs.  We decided to have hardwood and area rugs, no wall to wall carpet in this house.  The hardwood is being put down by others.

So here are some pics of the kitchen!   I have such a lovely view from this window.  There will be so much cupboard space too.  We have 9' ceilings, so you can imagine how tall these are.  Some places I will need to use a stool, but that will be for things I need, but don't use that often.  LOL  Excuse the dust....

The other side, I have a lovely desk, and two big pantries and the fridge is along this wall.

My lovely island!  I'm really looking forward to enjoying this.  It is so big and spacious!

Our eating room floor.  My husband designed and did this all himself, I did help a little, but mostly kept him company.

Most of the stone is done on this part of the house.  This is the garage and where my parents will be living once it is finished inside.  We will be sharing the main part of the house for a few months.

This pictures was taken a couple of weeks ago, now the stone is just to the top of the windows.  We have been having some cooler weather, so the brick layer hasn't been able to do as much, since it is not all tarped in like he had it during the cold winter months.

Anyway, we are seeing the end coming in view.  Still lots to do, but we are getting there.  This had been such a big project and taken so much of my dear husband's time.  God has been good and we are so blessed.  We will have so many memories with this house.

Next time I'll update with pictures of the new floor in the bedrooms, I hope to see that tomorrow.

House Building Update #16 :) Stone, Brick & More

Posted in House Building
I decided it was time to do another house building update.

Inside, it is not skeleton anymore!    You can no longer walk through the walls into the next room.  What a change the drywall has made and it is exciting.

Here I'm standing in the breakfast (eating) room and looking over into the kitchen and beyond that you can see into the laundry room on the left and school room on the right.

Here I am again in the breakfast room and what a change from last week!

In the school room, we had a closet put in. Above the closet there was enough space to make a "loft" for the children to go up and play in.  We plan to have a railing all the way up from the loft floor to the ceiling and there will be a ladder in the closet to go up into it.  I think the children will have many hours of fun up there.  Playing or snuggling up with a pillow, blanket and a favourite book.  The girls are already talking about "camping" up there one night.  This school room and loft is all drywalled and taped too.

The brick layer has been working on the front of the house.....

and today the tarp came down.  Isn't it beautiful!  We are really happy with our choice of brick and stone.  When we picked it out, we thought it was going to look beautiful, but of course you can't really picture it until you see it.

Welcome to our home!  Be prepared the house is a mess inside.  LOL

I have been feeling excited again about all of this. Before I was excited, but still there was a lot to do, but now we seem to be getting closer to the moving in day.  We have no date set for that, but I'm hoping for March.   I'm looking forward to moving in, planting a garden and settling into a new normal.

House Building Update #15 :) Bricks!

Posted in House Building
I thought I would share a couple of pictures here.  I need to get some pictures of the rooms that are all drywalled!  It is really looking nice, although is drywall ever dusty!

But here is a picture to give you an idea of what our house will look like when finished on the outside. Last week, the tarp was removed and we got to see the first section of the finished bricks, isn't it lovely!?!?

And here is the first working bathroom!

We have had a young man helping my husband with the house the last 6 weeks, but today was his last day.  He was such a help and a blessing to my husband.  My husband is going to miss his help!  His wife is so sweet, we are going to miss them both.   Anyway, the whole upstairs is drywalled and downstairs, the living room is done, hubby's office, and most of the walls in the eating area.  We will be happy to see this done and then onto the taping.

I hope to share some pictures of the "finished" rooms soon.

House Building Update #14 :)

Posted in House Building
Things are moving along on the new house.  My husband has been busy, even with an injury.  It will be two weeks tomorrow since he slipped and fell while helping carry a one piece surround bathtub.  It was a serious injury, but our chiropractor is confident that my husband will recover well.  He suffered a pulled muscle (groin pull).  My dear husband was in a lot of pain, but praise God it is healing and is not so bad now.  It still is very tender and sore, but healing is happening.  We are also thankful to have help.  Praise God for that, otherwise, we would still be wiring the first room!   I have seen God's Hand working so often during this time of our house building experience.  He is faithful and always good!

Two precious boys trying out the new basement stairs.

Temporary stairs going upstairs, no more climbing ladders!

A sweet girl (mismatched mittens and all) in the one of the new bathtubs, she was not so sure what to think.

Insulation and vapour barrier, plus children staying warm in front of the heater.

Ready for drywall!

 A large stack of drywall!
The first bricks...  it's a long story, but this is as far as the bricking has gotten so far.  Bricking will be starting again on Monday.  It will be exciting to see it go up!

The plan right now is to start drywalling the upstairs tomorrow.  Then the feel of the upstairs will really change.  My dear husband is going to be working on finishing the wiring on the main level.  We are encouraged to see the house coming along, but it is amazing on how much work goes into building a new house!  We have learned so much and it has been a great experience for our children to see.  Have you ever thought of how much is hidden in the walls?

So much has happened since I first posted this post

House Building Update #13 :) *updated*

Posted in House Building

Today we are having an electrical inspection done!  The house is not completely wired, but the whole upstairs is done and a lot of the main level.

I'll update later with how it goes!

Here I are few pictures I thought I would share with you.

Just some wire...

Part of the upstairs, it is a mess, but that is how it looks right now.  The opening in the floor is where the stairs will be coming up.  Right now we have temporary stairs coming up the other side.

The boys standing in there room, as you can see some insulation is in.

I'll be doing another house update this evening and I realized I have some other pictures I can share with you too, like new stairs etc...

**************************************************************************************************8

Well the inspection was done today and just a few little things need to be changed!  We are encouraged and things are moving along.  There are a number of things that we hope to finish up and then we can start the drywalling!  I do hope to post a few other pictures soon.    Anyway, just had to share!!

House Building Update #12 :) - evening update

Posted in House Building
All went well today and we have electricity and a few bricks have been laid!

This is a picture of the first few bricks...  I'll post another picture tomorrow.

Another view of the same wall, plus here you can see where the electricity comes to the house.  I didn't get any pictures of Hydro One being there, the children and I were here at home doing school.

A new view of the front of the house.  The septic system is done, so all the top soil has been spread around the house.  No more piles of dirt!
Really changes the way the house looks, too!
So much space!!

We hope to move in early next year, say around February.
We have to see how things go.

God is good and we are thankful for the many blessings He has given us.

House Building Update #12 :)

Posted in House Building
Today will be a big day!!

Right now Hydro One is at the new house and they are going to be hooking up the electricity!   This doesn't mean that all the wiring is done, but we will have power at the house and we have one outlet that we can use right away!

Something else big is happening today too!  The brick layer will be laying the first bricks!  We are praying that we will have a lovely fall, with not too cold weather, so that most, if not all the bricking and stone can be finished before it gets really cold.

I'll post an update with pictures this evening, Lord willing!

Until then, have a wonderful day!!

Just wanted to share that we had our first electrical inspection today for the meter base and panal and we passed!!

That means we can call tomorrow and let them know that we are ready to have power hooked up to the house.  We will have just one outlet to begin with, but that is a start!  My husband has started to put in place all of the electrical boxes.

Things are happening....  We are thankful!!

House Building Update #10 :)

Posted in House Building
I thought you all might enjoy a new house update...  Things have been happening slowly lately, but we are farther ahead then were were a year ago, so I'm not complaining.  Yesterday we spent the morning "house cleaning".  The floor needed to be swept and the small bits of wood picked up.

The girls busy at work

And the boys busy at work, here N. was unscrewing the screws from bits of cut-offs.

Need I explain...  LOL

We enter the house on our "chicken coop ladder"!  No, it is not from a chicken coop, but it always reminds me of one.

Baby was not so happy to be in here, but it was much safer for her!

The last basement window is in!!

The bricks have arrived!!

So has the stone!

My dad playing hide and seek with B.  :)

My husband will be putting in the electrical, so here he is putting in the meter base.

Lord willing, bricking will begin next week, I'm praying we have a lovely fall, so that the bricking can be all done before the cold weather comes.  Dh will be busying doing the electrical, after that will be the insulation, then drywall.  That is exciting!

House Building Update #9 :)

Posted in House Building
Here is another house update.

I think all of the windows, but three are in.  All the doors are in, except the large garage door.

Here is a picture to show the lovely roof!  All shingled, except for a tiny area above the schoolroom.  That area will be finished when the bricking/stone is done.  No windows or doors in place yet.

Now some windows are in and the front door.  The front porch was also framed, ready to have the cement floor poured.

Porch done, this was just done last Friday.

Welcome to our humble abode...

Inside plumbing is being done and we hope to have the bricking and stone start in about 2 weeks. Life is busy when you are building or having a house built!

House Building Update #8 :)

Posted in House Building
Here is another house update.

Yesterday was a big day here, the well drillers came and drilled our well.  Lots of water was found!!  Praise God!  We are so very thankful!  Here in this area, there is plently of water, but where I grew up from ages 6 until 17, we lived on 3/4 of an acre, about 1 hour west of where we are building and in that area, water is scare.  Our well there went dry and for many years my parents struggled with drilling for water and never finding any.  So we had to bring in water by pails and for our animals we had to carry it up from the creek.  I have great memories from my childhood and living without water.  I don't think I would want to change it.  About a year or two before we moved from there, my parents had a well bored, so we were able to fill that up with water.  What a joy it was to have showers again!!  Just for more info, the new pople have never had to bring in water....

Anyway now for pictures

Here is another front door picture...  welcome to our new home...  :)

The roof on our porch was just put up last Friday

The shingling has begun..  this it the back of the house

Starting from left to right... a room which will be my parents sitting room, laundry room window and door,
kitchen window, eating area windows and then the last two windows are the livingroom.

The drillers are work

Our toddler snacking on bread, he just needed the water to go with it.

The well just waiting to be hooked up to the house.

Our youngest also snacking on bread.

While we were watching the driller drill, this song came to mind.

I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
        And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.

          Chorus
Drinking at the springs of living water,
          Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
          O wonderful and bountiful supply.

How sweet the living water from the hills of God,
        It makes me glad and happy all the way;
Now glory, grace and blessing mark the path I've trod,
        I'm shouting Hallelujah every day.

O sinner, won't you come today to Calvary?
        A fountain there is flowing deep and wide;
The Saviour now invites you to the water free,
Where thirsting spirits can be satisfied.

        We are so blessed!!

Just another new house building update!

This is a picture of the houes from the side/back of the house...  the second floor walls are just going up.

This is how the house looked last Friday afternoon....

Yesterday afternoon.....

Today!  (Aug. 19th)

The trusses were delayed in coming. So for a few days, not much was being done on the house, but now progress is being made and it is fun to walk through the house and see the changes.  Gives a whole new feel each time!

Click here to see floor plans etc...
Changes have been made, mostly in laundry room and family room on the main level.  Doors and closet layouts have been changed.   But you can get a basic idea what we have in mind.

As of early this evening, our new house has a foundation.  Today the men finished putting the forms together and then the cement trucks came and filled them up.   It has been busy, but it is exciting to see progress being made.

Here is a pic of the forms, these were taken yesterday, so they are empty.

Here is one when they just started to pour the cement.

House Building Update #2 :)

Posted in House Building
Today was another day with work being done on the "house".  I went over this evening to see the hole.

Digging out the basement....

All dug and us taking a peek...

It is amazing, how small this can actually look....

Taking a jump...

Why is it,that dirt attracts children?!?

Ok, another front door picture, here we have just entered the door.  I knew the children were with me, but I didn't know the girls were peeking from behind me.

I'm not sure exactly what is happening tomorrow, but I do know that the footings are being done on Friday, forms made on Monday and the foundation poured on Tuesday.  Things are happening now!

On another note, the children and I picked more strawberries this morning.  So the afternoon was spent with making jam and I canned 19 jars.  The jam looks delicious!  That is a total of 32 now, I think I'll just get some more berries for freezing and eating fresh.

Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever." Ps. 106:1
