Beginning Our Journey

Jun. 10, 2006

Just stopping by to say hi!

Well I finally put away the last box of things from our move. The homeschool cupboard is full but not organized anymore. I needed the box off the floor so I  just put it all in there. Sigh... Another day.

I can't wait. September is when I offically start preschooling my daughter. She will be 4. I have all summer to get things organized. I have put off schooling for our move. It just seems more official in Sept. I can't decide when I will start though. I am thinking earliest allowed in PA because the sooner the more summer fun things we can do. I will have to figure out when the school year is able to start in PA. No it does not matter now, but I would like to practice :)

Today was a very draining day to put it lightly. So this post is not very interesting. Just thought I would stop by and say hi. So hi!

You're moved in already?!?! I moved back home in the fall of 2003. I still haven't emptied out a few boxes. As you can guess it was "real important" things in that box. Hmm, now I'm wodering what is even in there.

But WTG!

I know exactly what you mean about practicing! Even though we don't have to report until 8 I am starting to practice now so that I can make my mistakes and oopses before it becomes official.

Boring? You're never boring!!

Add me to the practicing list. I have no idea when I'll have to start reporting. Mostly because I have no idea where I'll be living. LOL Nothing to report here in Guam. No subjects, no days attended, no filing an intent to homeschool. Nothing.

Since you are under the age of requirement, you can start anytime you want without filing anything. When it is a year that you will file, you are legally allowed to start schooling the day after you file the affidavit. I always file my end of the year stuff, and beginning of the year stuff at the same time, and I start counting days right away. We do most of our field trips in the summer when weather is nice :0)

I started doing a few things for preschool with Julia last week, she likes it, she wanted me to teach her something as soon as the book came in the mail :0)
I will do it here and there over the summer as she seems interested. Most of the stuff in the first week of lessons she already knew, but it was still fun for her to do it and say she is doing school :0) (Like for mathematics, the lesson was top, middle, bottom and most kids know that stuff already by that age - I would think anyway. LOL) I am using Anne Ward's book Preschool/Kindergarten Learning at Home, I will add Teach your Child to Read in 100 easy Lessons in the fall, if she seems ready for it. She already knows how to write her first name. She knew her street, where we live when she was 2. She had a facination with street names at that time, and everyone she talked to she wanted to know where they live, and they would start describing their house or their neighborhood and she said no where do you live, she just wanted street names. Funny. She learned her ABC's from her Leapfrog Phonics Radio. She played with that more than anything else when she was smaller.

When my older girls were just starting school age, I practiced too, I did all record keeping, and even got an evaluation (just for my own records) just to practice cause I was so worried about it... I didn't do that for the second one because I didn't want to spend the money for something that was unnecessary!
