I have decided that it's time to look, again, for a homeschool group to call home. I thought we had found such a group two years ago. Unfortunately, this past spring events caused us to leave the group and the friendships we had formed. (I posted some of the details in my November 13, post.) We then joined another much larger group, but I always knew that it was only a temporary stop for us. This second group has over 100 families, but only about 20% of them participate in Park Day/P.E., and there just isn't time for my kids to form real friendships. Also, we don't attend the church that the group is affiliated with, which is even more limiting.
Our state homeschool organization, www.afhe.org, is a great resource, so after doing some research last night I sent emails to three different groups mentioned on their site. One meets at a park located about 200 yards from our home. I'm wiser now, not to mention a bit older, and will make this decision very slowly and even more prayerfully. I do not want to drag my kids from group to group, but I see that they NEED other friends. And I need other moms to talk with. By nature I am an extrovert, and I get energy and ideas from being around other people. So, if you read this, say a prayer that our family will find just the right group, and that we'll know it when we see it. |
