Brainstorms

Dec. 1, 2006 - What's Happening at this Moment...

My 7 yo daughter's bedroom door is closed, and I can hear her talking and making all sorts of sound effects as she plays.  It's so funny to hear her creative and happy play.

I love hearing my two kids play together.  Recently, they were in the tee-pee with an assortment of Hot Wheels.  I heard them talk about this car getting married to that one, and these cars over here being a family.    That probably comes from the influence of the Pixar/Disney movie, "Cars".

Our house is quiet now.  We did such a good job getting our school work done this week, that we finished by 11 o'clock and then took off for the Y.  I feel like we have discovered a gold mine in that YMCA.  I put the kids in the childcare area, I did the stationary bike for about 20 minutes, picked up Olivia and we worked on the resistance machines.  That took about 25 minutes.  We picked up Andy from childcare, changed into our suits, and swam for half an hour.  I am feeling great!

Tonight my parents are going to watch the kids while we go to a fabulous outdoor mall in north Scottsdale.  My mom said it is beautifully decorated for Christmas, and there are two stores I want dh to see.  I'm looking forward to being bundled up and walking hand-in-hand with my sweetie through beautiful shops.  Oh, and it doesn't hurt that my favorite restaurant is there -- The Cheesecake Factory!  Yummy!  I wonder what their seasonal cheesecakes are....  ;o)

I always thought one of the best things about homeschooling (and there are many) was that my kids had plenty of time to play freely, without following someone else's agenda. Glad to read how much your daughter enjoys her time playing :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog,
Barb

I love it when my kids play, too. When you were enjoying your kids playing in their tee-pees, mine had built a giantic fort underneath the grand-piano by draping almost every blanket in my house over it. I'm tempted many times to just cancel school for the day when I see all four of them playing together in some grand imaginative game of theirs. What I figure is that they are developing close bonds that will last forever and a close knit family ranks high in priorities for me.
It takes relationship and communication skills to be able to play like this together considering the age gaps ....14, 11, 8, 5 and the different genders (girl, boy, girl, boy). I think it's constructive play and this cooperative togetherness seems to only happen spontaneously, so I enjoy it when it comes. I figure that they have the rest of their life to be serious. This is the season for lots of play time!

Hey, when you get a chance, visit my daughter's new blog...she could use a visitor or two! And if you have an extra minute, drop a comment (she hasn't had any yet). She's got pictures posted on her blog of our house. You had mentioned to me in the past to post pictures of our crumbling kitchen but I couldn't get my blog to download hardly anything. Now Rachel is the expert and has her blog loaded with pictures. She's going to help me in the future post more pictures (yeah!)

I randomly popped over here. I enjoyed reading your blog. I am sorry what happened with your old homeschool group. I, too, feel like I'm not fitting in with my group. Not that they purposely ignore me probably, but I do feel ignored. Many people in my group have a baseball team sized family and wear dresses only. I have no problem with this, but because I "only" have three kids and are known to wear pants, they don't talk to me. Oh well!! Your kids look beautiful!!

Blessings, mlpinky
