Merry Christmas! As a special Christmas treat I'm posting Ashley's favorite Christmas song, "Pueri Concinite", sung by Jean-Baptiste Maunier and Les Petites Chaunteurs de St. Marc. Enjoy!
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
--Isaiah 9:6-7
Ashley just finished these two today! The first one is the Lord's Prayer in Breton. Since I had never heard of the language I googled it and learned that it is a Celtic language spoken in Brittany, a region in France. To "age" the paper, Ashley used watercolor paints.
Ashley just finished this yesterday.....Record posting time for me! Here we have the Lord's Prayer in Greek. I think it took her a little over a day to do this one. Don't you love the big Pi at the beginning?
Quote of the Day
"December is the toughest month of the year. Others are July, January, September, April, November, May March, June, October, August, and February." Mark Twain
Actually, I don't "parley voo francey" at all. But Ashley does...a little. But enough about that, I finally have Ashley's latest drawing up! She actually drew it a couple of weeks ago, but between school and computer problems I haven't had a chance to post it until now. The picture is of Jean-Baptiste Maunier in his role of Pierre Morhange in the French movie Les Choristes.
Ashley and I first watched Les Choristes because the choir I sing in was learning two pieces from the movie. (In fact one of them, a song called "Cerf-volant", was a piece my choir sang at Carnegie Hall during a choir festival. My sister Rose sang Jean-Baptiste's solo with a friend of hers.) Ashley and I fell in love the music, especially the choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc-Lyons that most of the boys from the movie, including Jean-Baptiste, are taken from. Here's a clip of Jean-Baptiste singing "Carresse sur l'océan", one of my favorite pieces from the movie.
Clive Staples, or Jack, Lewis was born on this day in 1898 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. (Learn more about C.S. Lewis.) C.S. Lewis was professor of medieval and renaissance literature at Cambridge but he is better known as a writer, especially of the children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. He was also a member of the Inklings, a group of Christian writers who met at the Eagle and Child pub to discuss their writings, along with his good friend J.R.R. Tolkien. (Learn more about the Inklings.)
And here are a few things for your funny bone:
Ever wonder what The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe would be like without all of the Christian influences? Read Narnia Declawed.
Don't have time to read the entire book? Read the Book-A-Minute version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
And for your viewing pleasure, here we have The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe movie trailer.
Prince Caspian will be coming to theaters on Friday May 16, 2008!

Here you see displayed the beautiful works of art of Ashley, otherwise known by her elvish name Lithoniel, who will one day be a famous portrait artist and living in a castle in England or a famous costume designer and living in New York. Or both.
Note: No, Ashley does not have a split personality! This is her blog but half of the time I (Amanda) am the one who posts things for her because she is busy drawing beautiful works of art and doesn't have time for the computer.
