Hubby is worried we'll find the house trashed in the morning. Isn't that vandalism??
Am I supposed to pay these children with lollies for house protection?? And paying them with lollies doesn't always promise front yard protection. We've been egged before when the trick or treaters didn't like their selection of lollies.
Aside from the fact that it's a totally pagan festival AND not Australian!!!!
In the past I've handed out a chocolate attached to bookmarks I made with biblical verses on them but it's been increasingly on my mind to not participate at all this year.
I like having the opportunity to share God with these children but from my children's point of view, despite everything I've explained to them about the tradition, it seems like a lot fun. Answering the door all night, costumes and excitement in the street and the lollies of course. They look forward to Halloween for these reasons. So from my children's point of view I'm condoning and encouraging the activity and we're still participating even if it is in our own way.
So this year, there's a sign on our door and our porch light will be off...
It's one thing to share God's Word, and it's vital, but I think we need to be cautious about what we allow our children to see and do as part of our witnessing. Do we take our children with us to the most unsavory places to share the Word with people. Of course not. There are some environments that aren't suitable for the children that God already has in His flock. They are too impressionable.
So while sharing the Word with Trick or Treaters is a worthy notion for mature believers, we have decided that it's not a suitable situation for our children at this point.
Perhaps oun sign (which Ethan made I might add...isn't it a nice one??) should say :
Please Call back in a few years time...
We have something we want to share with you.
If you remember I wrote to you a couple of months ago about vegamite and you did a post about it. I just read on yahoo about the new product kraft has come out with and how upset people were about the new name that was originally picked. Have you tried it? Do you like it?
Blessings
Diane
I am a homeschooling mother of two boys, aged 8 and 6 years. We live in Australia and have never sent our children to school...except to visit with their Daddy, my Dh. He is a school teacher (as I was too, a long time ago).
