Geode smashing!

Man, are geodes cool or what???  We got ours today in the mail and we went straight out to the front porch to smash them!  I was harder to split them than I thought it would be but they smashed eventually.  We got 5 or them even though we only ordered 4, but that was fine with me.  :D  They honestly look like little round blobs of concrete or something from the outside!  I'm not so sure I would be able to recognize them if I found one on my own.  Anyway, I'm trying to make a unit study out of geodes.  I think it would be fantastic, but I'm having trouble figuring out what information I should include from the net.  Sooooo many sites have the 'millions and millions of years ago' theme and that's not the direction I want to go with it since we don't believe in evolution.  lol

My oldest is having a little trouble paying attention these days.  It's just too hot outside and she gets sleepy because of the heat.  It's miserable.  I can't believe it's THIS hot already!  My Mother's Day hydrangeas haven't got a prayer!  :(  Sad things!  They've started really cracking down on waterer's, too, so unless I want to save my dish water to pour on them, they're going to die.  Ugh...

So, that's about it for now.  I'm just tired today.  :D

My kids don't realize that I sleep!

With the hub's schedule, it seems to them that I'm awake 24/7.  They have a bit of trouble getting into deep sleep for the first few hours of the night and so, when they wake up calling me, I'm right there at their bedside because I haven't gone to bed yet.  This is usually around 1am.  When I go to bed, they've usually settled and hit real sleep.  When they get up, I'm already up...

So, this made for an interesting conversation when my oldest asked, 'when I grow up, will I stop sleeping at night, too?'  ROFLOL  I had to explain it to her, poor thing!  When I thought about it, it does seem like I don't sleep!

Oh and I found an AMAZING farmer's market today and I'm not sure, but it seemed like they homeschool their kids.  I know that school is out around here but they just gave off that vibe.  lol  Anyway, their fruits and veggies were/are AMAZING and I even got wild blackberries that they had picked THIS MORNING in the next town over!  They're so tasty and unlike any commercial blackberry I've ever tasted!  And they had REAL tomatoes!!!  I'm really excited about this because I've been wanting to start canning and now that I know they have excellent produce at insanely low prices, I'm really really happy!  YAY!

HELLO, HELLO!!!

So, here I am again!  With a new blog!  This time, I'm blogging about what's currently taking up most of my time, in a positive way, of course...HOMESCHOOLING!!!  Our oldest daughter has started first grade and we're using Lifepac curriculum, which I happen to LOVE.  She does, too, and she's thriving on having a schedule.  We've never been able to put her on a schedule for anything before!  Not even naps when she was a baby so this is HUGE for us!  We're schooling over the summer as a lot of homeschoolers do.  We're just doing what comes naturally, I guess!  It doesn't really make much sense to take several months off only to review the last half of the last school year.  Yeah, no thanks.  LOL

We just finished the first unit in history and geography and she's just itching to get to her next unit.  This concerns me a bit because she completed it in less than 2 weeks so I think we're going to scale back her workload.  Although she loves it and she would burn through a unit/week if I let her, she just wouldn't retain any info that way.  At least I hope that's true and I hope I'm not discouraging a genius to learn.  LOL

Our youngest just turned 4 on June 2nd.  I'm still sad about that.  She's been doing some curriculum but so far, just the very basics like learning her letters, numbers and such.  Today was rough because the poor babe has a cold.  Who knows where she got it from but now everyone is trying to avoid her.  Ugh.

Well, so that's it for our first blog!  Happy reading!  :D
