My kitchen looks like it is housing a dozen science experiments!!My mom will truly get a kick out of this blog. Oh, wait a minute, be right back - have to check on the bread. Okay, I'm back - it was looking a bit stiff. It's in the soaking stage right now. It's just one of the many science experiments I have going on in my kitchen currently.
The others are:
- soaking cornmeal, to let all the nutrients come forth, so that they can be absorbed in the tortilla pie tomorrow. Actually this is just regular cornmeal, so I doubt there are many nutrients left in it, but Whole Foods, didn't have any dried corn today.
- soaking oats for breakfast tomorrow - oatmeal surprise. Weird name, but it sounds delicious. Oatmeal with a bit of fresh apple, cinnamon, and walnuts!! :) soaking it for the same reasons.
- sprouting spelt! - this is my first try at sprouting. There are so many more nutrients in grains when you sprout them. I thought the kids would stick their noses up at the thought of eating sprouted grains, but they were excited!!
- Yogurt cheese - our first try at cheesemaking. This is the easy way - just put a quart of cheese in a cheesecloth, hang from a cabinet and let the whey drip into a bowl overnight! We'll have yogurt cheese in the morning. This is the consistency of cream cheese and can be used interchangeably with just a little flavor change. yogurt cheese has 18 calories per tbsp. and cream cheese has 50 per tbsp - plus the yogurt has all those probiotics!!!! Woohoo!']
- and my next attempt at bread! It's soaking overnight as well.
