Here is my second assignment.
My favorite character is Lulu Raymond from the Elsie Dinsmore series. She is a truthful girl who struggles with her fiery temper. Her struggle helps me to relate to her and makes her just as lovable. She loves her siblings and her father and would give her life for them.
My least favorite character is the evil Mrs. Dinsmore, also from the Elsie Dinsmore series. She is very jealous of her granddaughter Elsie because she is prettier than Mrs. Dinsmore's daughters and will inherit a large fortune when she grows up. She is constantly trying to drive a wedge between Elsie and her father and makes life as miserable for Elsie as she can. |
Feb. 26, 2008 - Lesson 2
You have captured the reasons for liking Lulu and written them clearly, focusing on her inside character rather than outward features. I like that you focused on Lulu, a secondary character, rather on Elsie (which, I must honestly admit, is not a favorite character of mine). Lulu (hmm..I can't remember her, but I haven't read the entire series) seems to have more personality, and some weaknesses, with which we can relate (as you do). And you like her because she is able to overcome them. Nice job.
I agree that Mrs. Dinsmore is a mean-hearted woman and I don't like her, either--once again, based on the character she shows.
Digging into known characters and why you like or dislike them helps you get ready to start creating your OWN characters and to focus on developing their inside personality and character, which is what makes readers want to keep reading. That lesson is next...I think.
