A digital version of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine?I will admit, when I downloaded my subscription, I was apprehensive. I wondered...is it possible to deliver what TOS is promising, through a digital version, of what is already great resource for the home educator? The answer: Yes. It is not only possible, they have delivered it in a fresh new way! It only took a few minutes to familiarize myself with the navigation of the magazine online. I found it simple to use; very hands on. It is a real magazine - the pages pull up and turn just like a regular magazine, only you don't have to lick your finger to turn them, I just a click the forward arrow and wah-lah! I can zoom in and read an article - download and share articles with friends (instead of loaning them my entire magazine), use the search engine to find an article quickly. I can even choose the speed at which the page turns... how cool is that? Another great benefit - you receive the same gifts you would subscribing to the original version of TOS. _______________________________________________________________________________ Now, it would not be a true review, if I only shared the positive... I do have a few concerns. While I enjoyed the new technology, the ease of use...a digital magazine is not portable. I enjoy bringing light reading with me, especially when we are on the go. Just because we home school, it does not mean we stay home, right? It is a rare occasion to find me without several magazines in my bag. I bring my favorites with me to music lessons, doctor appointments, to the beach or ski chalet (depending on the season), while we are driving on trips... even short ones...and... yes, I even take them into the bathroom; these are the small moments... when I must wait, when I am not literally teaching or parenting... the valuable "me" time. In the evening, I enjoy snuggling up in my cozy chair, feeling the weight of the magazine in one hand as I sip something refreshing out of my favorite mug in the other... perusing the pages of TOS at my leisure, it is nice to be able to pick it up and glance at a short story or investigate a curriculum. These are the times, when a digital magazine would not be condusive to my lifestyle.. My Conclusion: "On the Fence" ****I like the digital version enough to allow myself more time to adjust to the concept of a magazine online. I will assess this product again in a few months and add my thoughts to this review. Let me know what you think, check out this sample issue: Sample TOS Digital Magazine Abundant Blessings! What do you think?

It is a simple question, one many of appreciate someone asking us...We all have an opinion and this is my chance to voice mine. The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is starting a new focus group researching new products. I have been asked to begin reviewing products as an application to become a part of this group. What a great opportunity! My goal will be to review products from a Christian Worldview first and foremost keeping the opinion true to the foundation of what matters most - living and authentic life for Christ. This includes what products we will use in our home to educate our children. I pray you will enjoy the reviews as I write in a conversational style -- as if we are sitting in my cozy living room, the fireplace roaring... sharing a good cup of coffee, surrounded by books!! Come and join me... |
