In response to http://ihavetosay.typepad.com/randi/2007/08/back-to-homesch.html Monday, August 6---What led to your decision to homeschool? Well the first factor that played into our decision was that we knew of people that homeschooled and in fact my sister had pulled her kids and had homeschooled them so we had that example as well. We saw the difference it made first hand and we knew it was an option. (I feel very sad for people who don’t know that it is an option). The second factor was that due to infertility issues it took us 6 years to even have Josh so when it was time for him to go off to Kindergarten Mama certainly was not ready to let him go, besides we were having too much fun at home. We did check out some Christian schools but for the price I told hubby if he gave me that money I could give him a really good education (an individualized education at that which included pursuing his passions). Actually hubby was all for homeschooling he had had a horrid school experience so he didn’t need any convincing but I had to check out the other options first just to be sure I wasn’t missing out on anything. So then we decided to “try” kindergarten and we haven’t looked back. It went so well, not that Josh learned anything fabulous but I did. I learned how awesome homeschooling could be. I met a bunch of homeschoolers who are now dear friends and it’s such a part of our lifestyle that we don’t even question any other options for Joshua (12) or our other 3 year old son Noah. I can’t imagine NOT homeschooling! |
