A good day!

So today turned out to be a really great day.

Paul drove my nephew to his first day of school at a nearby college.  I think he was a little apprehensive about his first day but as it turned out everything went exceptionaly well (praise God).  I'm really excited about the low numbers in his class, which means he'll get exceptional one on one teaching and the instructor and other students sound like good people and there is a mother hen type who is in charge of the program that has made Joey feel really at ease about asking about anything so again I'm really excited for this new phase of his life.  As a matter of fact we were both a little too excited when I dropped him off at work and we locked the keys in the car while it was running :(   Poor Paul had to bring us the spare set.

For school today Josh started a new book, the 2nd in the The Ranger's Apprentice series, he really loves this series and I was thinking today that I really don't need to assign reading anymore as he always has his nose in a book of some sort.

For writing we started the Grammar section in his Handwriting without the Tears book.  I also downloaded a ebook from Hands of A Child called Mission: Grammar that looks AWESOME.  I think we will do along with the handwriting.

For Math we started Fractions and Josh whizzed through 2 pages of identifying and simplfying fractions.  I'm still looking for some good fraction manipulatives to used (I found lots of internet resources but nothing hands on) suggestions?

For our Japan unit Josh read about the atomic bombs.  Wouldn't be my first choice but how it started is Josh was asking about D-day and I have a WWII book that I directed him to.  Well two pages after D-day they had two pages about the bombs in Japan.  It was an interesting discussion we had afterward about war and bombs and such.  Not a planned activity but we will defintately add it to the project table.

Noah "demanded" to do school today and when that didn't get my attention he just went ahead and got out the letter "e" the pink "heart" shape and the number 4 and went ahead and "did school".  Then (this is the really cute part), he got out the "tacky" stuff that I put on the back of his stuff to put on the walls.  So basically he was an independent learner today, ha ha.  He's got the "routine" down I say.

Well I haven't had much time to just sit and sip tea so I think I'll do that now.  Tomorrow is another day!

Sounds like a really full day Lori. How exciting for your nephew, so he is going to stay with you while he is in school?
I did the same thing with my keys, twice in the last week. Yikes!
