So today was our first "official" day back to homeschooling. All in all it went quite well I think. We started the day off with a "special" breakfast of oatmeal, vanilla ice cream with liquid honey poured on top. It was Josh's suggestion and we all agreed it was a good one. The household chore list for each of us went well - I even finished early and spent some time with Noah doing some school before even starting with Josh. That seemed to work well - even though Noah joined us he wasn't as demanding of my time as I had spent time with him already. I gave Josh an overview of what I have planned (and not planned) and gave him his new planner - he was quite excited about that. After the overview he mentioned that he was really glad not to be going to public school which of course made me smile. Noah and I read our first Eric Carle book Today is Monday - Noah really enjoyed it. There is lots to draw from in that book - different languages, the days of the week, different animals, music (there is a song in the back) as well as a short bio of the author). I'll have to decide what to draw from and choose an activity for tea time tomorrow. Josh has chosen to do the Ranger's Apprentice series for the Literary World - I think that is a good choice for him and he should be able to draw lots from it as he has read almost 4 of the books in the series. Noah also did the letter "G" in his HWT book BUT he practiced just about all of the letters using his new stamp magnetic board that is HWT compatible. He's a smart boy and is enjoying learning his letters. Josh did the Greek and Latin section of his HWT book from last year - he learned about prefixes and suffixes and root words and did 2 pages of writing practice. Slow as usual but hey it didn't even bother me :) Next Josh installed his new Math program Teaching Textbooks - the goal is 4 lessons/week and he did 2 lessons today! He says he really likes being able to do it on the computer instead of writing on math worksheets! Josh has also started a book log that he'll record books that he starts and finishes and he tried a typing program on the internet for his typing practice. I'll be sending a few of these his way and he can use whichever one he ends up liking the most. It was quite a good day as Josh seemed to work really well independently. Noah enjoyed his day as well as long as when he was done we moved on to the next thing - I'll need to remember that instead of having my own agenda. :) Oh I also implemented a no screen time (computers, gaming system and tv) between noon and 4. Everyone (except me) seemed to have no problem with it. Tomorrow will be tea time - we are all looking forward to that of course! Until then I better get started on supper and then head over to Parent's Night Out - we are sitting around a camp fire tonight sharing how our year is going - I guess I'll have good things to report. Chat with you all later. |
