Jul. 21, 2006 - The scientific answer to can people melt?
No, the answer in undoubtably no. I tested this theory today while cleaning the garage.
While we are on these types of questions here are some answers to some more:
You can never actually be caught up on laundry.
No matter how much dog hair you see on the floors, couch and bed there is still plenty left on the three dogs that live in this house. They never wake up bald despite what you would think.
With three German Shepherds in the house you can fill a Dyson vacuum cleaner daily.
Young boys really should be taught to sit when they pee.
German Shepherds like the taste of books.
Yesterday with it being so warm Bob and I decided to head to the mall and walk around. We don't shop there but we walk and browse. We went in Brookstone and were sitting in the massage chairs, oh my heavens do I need one of those. We have a hot tub to relax tired muscles but those chairs felt heavenly.
We went to Micheals to get E some things for painting and to check on classes for her. Since this is right near Borders we went there and got a couple laminated maps for the classroom also.
I cleaned the classroom today, took way too many hours. We are nearly ready for the new school year, waiting on a couple more books to arrive and I need to sit down and actually plan the year.
What I am reading: Every Child Has A Thinking Style. I just started it but it looks promising.

Jul. 10, 2006 - My budding artist
E is in art camp this week and today was water colors. E is the little and she is 5. Here is her beach painting with the sunset. I was very proud of her and more importantly she was proud of herself. She cried when i was going to leave but she was ok when I said I would be in the hall.

Jul. 3, 2006 - Been a while
I have been busy and ignoring the blog. The kids had drama camp for a week and did really well. They put on a play of Mother Gooses Mixed Up Rhymes at the end and I was proud of them. The second week of it is the 10-14th of this month. E is going to Art camp that week. It will be the first time she has ever gone anywhere with out me, she is 5 1/2 so it is about time I suppose but I am a little nervous.
Bob was on vacation the past 9 days and we took the opportunity to stay home and finish up some home improvement projects. He got to go to the kids play so the timing was good.
The new pup is doing great, everyone loves her tons.
What I am reading: Latin Centered Curriculum, I have used The Well Trained Mind as our homeschooling guide but LOVE the way Latin Centered Curriculum takes pieces of that and simplifies it. It will definitely move us close to a true classical curriculum.

Jun. 17, 2006 - Edison Trait
I am reading a book on the Edison trait in children. It is titled Dreamers, Discoverers and Dynamos. It is an incredible book. It has changed the way I view my day dreamers. There is a quote that I think is so worth remembering:
If there is anything we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves. -Carl Jung
There are so many qualities that children possess that I wish adults never lost and that quote reminded me of that. Perhaps instead of wishing them grown I should act like a child for a while.
---------
J had a sewing class today, she loved it and I think it will become a regular thing for us. We finished the day with dinner and swimming.
Tomorrow is Father's Day. the kids will make Bob a cake or brownies. I don't have a father. May and June make me feel like an orphan.
The pup is doing great. She is so sweet and really smart. She loves the pool and the kids are thrilled with her.

Jun. 16, 2006 - So much for growing old gracefully
I don't dye my hair unless it is purple or pink, I dont even cut my hair. I am fine with what ever grows out of my head. My husband and I are at dinner the other night, just the two of us and he looks at me, I foolishly ask him what he is thinking and he says "Honey, you should dye your hair, you are getting a little gray". Oh, ok, thanks honey. Now the real funny part is he is 10 years older then me and I am mistaken for his daughter all the time...

Jun. 10, 2006 - The New Puppy
We picked her up Tuesday when she was 8 weeks old. She is Sophies (older dog on the photo) sister, they are obviously from different litters but share the same parents. Sophie is such a good dog we decided to get another from the same breeding. Her name is Madison.

May. 31, 2006 - Only two rehearsals left
Thank goodness! They have had a lot of fun getting ready for the play but if this was drug out any further I would scream. We've gone to every rehearsal, sold tickets, volunteered for everything possible, donated money and now it is winding down. It will be a busy weekend. Rehearsals tomorrow and Friday and then two shows Saturday, one on Sunday. I signed the kids up for drama camp since they had a good time with this. They are both so shy it has been nice seeing them blossom in this setting.
We bought a new pup, we get to pick her up on Tuesday, her name will be Madison. I will post pictures as soon as we get her.

May. 28, 2006 - My little lady
I used to be one of those women who would snicker when I saw a child in shorts and rainboots at the grocery store, or a little girl with mismatched socks. God is now paying me back! My little one (she is 5) pushes my buttons every morning when it is time to go somewhere. She always has a perfectly good reason for choosing the clothes she does so when you see her in orange shorts, purple shirt, one pink sock and one blue sock she proclaims "but they are my favorite colors!". Who am I to argue with that?
However I drew the line this morning. You see I had to get the kids to their play rehearsal and we were running late so I foolishly get on the intercom with her and ask her to get dressed and come upstairs. She comes up wearing sandals that she can't walk in ( they have no heel and she hasn't learned to walk in them yet without them falling off her foot), barbie nightgown, santa hat and those oversized sun glasses that they gave the kids at the library for signing up for the summer reading program. Then as if things can't get worse she yells "Mom I am not wearing any panties because you don't".
No comment will be made on that last sentence on the grounds it may incriminate myself.

May. 24, 2006 - It is a bird feeder, right?
The squirrel has figured out not only how to get to the bird feeder but how to open it and get inside. Happens every morning. He has earned the right to feast there in my opinion.

May. 19, 2006 - Never a dull moment
When you think of motherhood you think of a little you who acts like you, does what you are doing when your doing it, sleeps, eats what you cook and is just angelic. Then you actually have kids! Yesterday my darlings are in the classroom creating masterpieces (read: drawing each other in a not so flattering light) and suddenly J is carrying E up the stairs yelling for me. I was cleaning so I stop what I am doing and go see what the emergency is. My little lady had a marker cap stuck in her mouth vertically, she could not open her mouth any further to get it out and of course it is wedged in. Trying not to laugh I tell her to relax and turn the marker cap sideways to get it out.
Then I laughed.
We had a great week. Monday we took the kids to the bodies exhibit. It was wonderful. The kids learned a lot. E was a little squeamish over some of it but J and G really liked it. The kids got to touch a brain and they thought that was very cool. The embryo/fetus section of the exhibit was amazing.
Tuesday and Wednesday Bob and I worked a little on the kitchen, it is done! Yay. He did a great job. He got me a new dishwasher which works so much better then the old one. The weather has been lovely! Not too hot yet, nice and breezy.

May. 14, 2006 - A Mother's Day Only a Homeschooling Mom Would Understand
The kids made me cards, they were all spelled correctly and they worked hard on them. I had a gourmet breakfast of donuts and nesquik that my husband went and got with our son this morning after he had worked late last night and not gone to sleep until after 2:30am. He works so hard to allow me to stay home. I got roses from the kids (I am sure Dad helped there) and my husband who is very squeamish got us ticket to go to the Bodies exhibit tomorrow in Atlanta http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/bodies.html Now thats love!
Being a Mom is the hardest job I have ever had, add homeschooling onto that and it seems almost unbearable at times but I wouldn't change it for anything! It is the best job in the world though.
Mother's Day always makes me miss having a Mom so even though today was good I always feel like I missed out on something.

May. 10, 2006 - Kids had their first rehearsal
It really consisted of all the actors reading their lines and talking about how things should be said. They also went over the songs in the play. They did well and they both received compliments from the director. The paper was there and did a photo of the cast to announce the play. Rehearsals are three times a week for two hours each. Big time commitment for little ones. I think they are enjoying it though.
Today is Bobs birthday so the kids spent some time making him a gift, we are making his favorite dinner and we bought a cake so they are excited. We don't make a big deal out of birthdays and holidays but the kids love to make something for each of us on those days.
