Hallo! This morning I was forced out of the comfort of my room to clear up some debris piled in around the plants in our backyard. We managed by the time lunch came to fill the trash can to the brim and overflowing. Striker had to, though, jump up and make more room in the can for the mess we had to clean up afterwards :) My dad sawed through a whole mound of overgrown, prickly bushes and tall stalks until there was barely anything left, and us kids often commented he killed the poor plants. But he was mostly sure they would grow back. Mostly sure. Not quite fully, though, begging your pardon.
It was mighty windy, and so as a result dust was blown in our faces, and leaves were flying everywhere, and of course we were the ones to go chase after them and return those stragglers to the immensely large pile we had formed. Also, I am afraid I disturbed a snail graveyard as I shifted through the dirt removing dead weeds. And I suppose I stepped on more than just a few living ones by accident. My mistake. May they rest in peace - erm, a few pieces.
Last week my mom, who is an excellent teacher, assigned a page or two random essay (or book report) on anything we liked to write about. Curu decided to do one of Mrs. Marlow's writing lessons for his essay, and I, well, I just wrote what first came to mind. A story. Here I revised the essay from very messy cursive handwriting to plain text for you all to enjoy, that is, if you will enjoy it. I'm not so sure its very interesting at the moment.
Shiloh trotted out onto the grassy field. With her silver bow in hand, she positioned her hooves and drew a green feathered arrow from the adorned quiver resting on her human-like back. Carefully, Shiloh pulled toward herself the slender string, aiming the sharp arrowhead just above her target on the other end of the valley. With a steady 'twang' the arrow soared through the air and planted itself several hands deep into the heart of the thick, targeting board. Smiling, Shiloh relaxed her arms as a sudden series of loud claps erupted behind her. "Well done!" said a voice.
Shiloh tilted her head and glanced at her applauder. "Master Thain!" She turned and grasped the old centuar's wrinkled fingers. "They said we would not be expecting you so soon. What of the mission? Did you find him?"
Thain smiled. "Yes, I found him. He is doing quite well; only a few, minor scratches. Its better luck than he's had in years, I suppose." Grasping her shoulder, he looked at her in the eye. "It is time, my dear Shiloh. When young Micah is ready, you are to lead the company southwards into Gorgoth and find the Elfin Wood. Prepare to leave at first light. Will you do this for me, young one?"
Grinning, Shiloh grasped the jeweled hilt of her sword in one hand and slapped her palm to her chest. Respectfully she bent her head. "Yes Master, I will go."
"My lord, are you ready?"
Micah finished the last strap on his boots and looked up. A tall centuar stood before the flap of his tent, her head bowed as she peered in at him. Her long hair was pulled back and knotted with a silver brooch, and her light breastplate carved in horse-fashion. Standing up, Micah strapped his belt around his leather jerkin and sheathed his glistening sword at his side. Heaving a sigh he straightened his shoulders and marched out from under the canopy.
I believe I could make more out of it, but right now its late, and I have a few more things to get done before bed. If you really think that little essay was good, then tell me, and I just might think about it....
May the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!
Luthien Enelya - Truth Seeker
I've had yet another inspiration, and am willing to torture you with little hints that will get you nowhere... BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Okay, okay, I'll give you a few hints, but that's it. WHY do you keep on nagging me?? Fine, okay, I'll tell you what I am going to do, just stop boring holes into me! THANK YOU!! *wipes brow of perspiration* I have decided that I may possibly be able to make up a second book for Truth Seeker, now that I am revising the whole lot of it again. If this evil plan of mine, er, *cough, cough* wonderful plan of mine will work out, the whole ending for the first book that I had in mind will be changed drastically from the old happily-ever-after ending to - oh no, I'm not telling. Nope. Ha! MY secret. MINE. Miiiinnee. My precious....
On Monday, the beginning of this week, my brothers and I were able to explore a pastureland my dad's friend just recently bought, since of course it was a holiday and we had nothing else better to do. So with his family and us (not including my mom, who apparently bailed out at the last minute of some minor emergency), we drove out onto his property stock full of sandwiches, snacks and drinks for the lunch hour. The children had a small platform built in the boughs of a huge sagging tree (no, it wasn't weeping, at least to me it didn't seem like it), but I definitely did not feel safe on those wobbly boards. For half the day we kicked the soccer ball around, playing different games we either made up or heard of, and I was often stuck with the younger kiddies who didn't think the other games were fun. I choose to, actually. I have no idea why, though maybe because most were unfair games for children who were smaller than my teenage brothers. More like less than half the size, I should say.
For most of the afternoon we tromped through the field, with me usually far ahead on my own, pondering things to myself and enjoying the quiet and beauty of nature as to which I could not if my brothers were about. Soon the group lost track of both dads, and so I ran with a burst of energy to find them. Now let me inform you this field was about 40 acres of bumpy land, entrenched in holes which were the homes of many animals, and simply covered in thick, dry underbrush and sharp rocks. Easy-going, don't you think? But I LOVED it. It had been so long since I last ran in a large, open area, that I literally jumped over every obstacle in my path with fresh energy. I found the two men not long after, with my checks bright pink from the exercise. They had wondered off into the neighbor's field, studying the borderline on the side of a low hill where no fence had been put up yet. And so I ran back down the hill to the group, made a bridge over a ditch out of two long boards for the children to play around, and then ran all the way across the land to the picnic table from whence we started the day.
But most strangely enough, after running the whole day, I never once slipped on a hole, and it was when I was walking that I tripped. Pain shot through my foot instantly, and I struggled to hold back the tears. (I must remind you I am very emotional, and so most of the time, whether the injury really hurt bad or not, somehow I still manage to cry over such a little pain though I try to keep it back.) Yes, my ankle really hurt, and it was agony to even touch it. So there I sat, watching the others play around with the balls as I tried to force away my tears. I was so fortunate as to fall just beyond a hill where the adults could not see me on the ground until after they came ten minutes later with the vehicles, pretending to leave us kids here for a few days.
For the whole week afterwards I had to crawl and hobble all through the house and up the stairs with my foot wrapped up with an elastic bandage, but finally I am free hence more! We were greatly relieved my ankled did not swell up, but it hurt unbearably for the first few days. But please, you don't have to be concerned now that its over and done. *whew!*
May the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!

Hallo! My mom took me out on Valentine's Day to the J Henry Manor Tea Shoppe in San Luis Obispo near our new house. They had delicious white chocolate scones, little wraps and sandwiches, and a yummy hot fudge brownie for dessert! Er, though I didn't like the tea... The shoppe was in a hundred-year-old house, and inside the cozy rooms there were tables covered in dainty tablecloths, candles, and sugar boxes with Valentine confetti, lol. Hanging from the walls, set up on racks and placed around the warm windows were mugs and chimes, cards and candies, tea-related books, china sets and even coffee jars crowded around in the rooms. No wonder why it felt so warm! There were hundreds of things, and almost every one of them had a price tag (you know, this is a shoppe). And the smell! Mmmm.... *For more information (and pictures), log on to 'http://www.homesteadblogger.com/desertoasis/87775/'. Thank you!*
IloveyouGod had hosted a challenge in the last few weeks for girls in being feminine and wearing skirts and outfits and whatever accesories you like. I don't have pictures, but I will share with you the different clothes I tried out. My mom told me I had to wear pants for our every day walk, though :) My first outfit a few weeks ago was a new, too-big-for-me denim skirt, a purple shirt, and a loose plaid purple, green and white too-big-for-me vest. I didn't necessarily liked the vest, so I chose to wear a long green shawl with the purple shirt. Later on I wore a light green, tattered skirt (what? It was a hand-me-down!) with a white shirt and the green shawl. And then during the week I changed shirts to the purple one again (after washed) and a small pink scarf. For the tea party with mom I put on a black dress skirt with leggings and new little black shoes, a white shirt with a purple snowflake (I don't know why), and, of course, the green shawl. A very plain outfit, to be sure. And at this moment I'm wearing a red T-shirt and too-small-for-me-but-the-only-pair-I-have jeans since we had just been working out in our jungle backyard. I've put up my hair in only a few different ways (because it is now so very short). Right now my bangs are pulled back in a tail to keep them from my face, but usually when going somewhere I have nothing in my hair.
I have just about finished revising the whole lot of the prologue, as soon as I can think up a good cliff-hanger ending, maybe :) Then I'll have to work on the first chapter, which is the hardest and most confusing part of the book needing to be revised. I hope you are all enjoying the older version! Everything will soon change....bwhahahahaha!! Well, may the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!

Hallo! As you probably know from reading my second blog, Arya, I have decided to soon post my book, which I have now called "Truth Seeker". As I reach the fifth chapter I will post the prologue again so you remember it and then every once in a while post every part of a chapter. But, unfortunately for those not on my friends list, it will be read by only my friends, under the council of my mom and some others. So I hope you enjoy my writing and the writing of my friends, like the great AuthorElf, and the famous Lotrsavvy! They have enormous talent, and so do many on HSB that I know of. If you are reading this, you might as well go visit their blogs and comment on their writing too, since I wish it, and since their stories are so amazingly good that you would probably go even if I had just mentioned it. For those who would like to learn to write, Mrs. Marlow is giving out write-at-your-own-pace lessons on how to do it well . Its real fun and easy, and she would love to have you!
On other short-hand news, we have been doing great at our new home, accept for, well, finding spider webs all over the house and yards. Mom ran into a string of web across her door, and we found another from a basket of fake leaves all the way to the top of our high ceiling. Its like spider heaven where we live! Also once, when my mom and I were on a walk, I saw an odd shaped, green bush with dots of white web speckled all over it. When I was a little girl, I had questions for everything, like, 'why did God make spiders if they can hurt you?'. I had the same questions for bees, but I realized we needed them now more than we did before, because since the bees are dwindling, the flowers, plants, and trees wont be pollinated, unless someone was to go into ever plant a pollinate it by hand, which is very hard! But as for those little spiders, I still think them as I do that big spider Shelob from the Lord of the Rings :)
I have been recently reading a great book, called 'the Count of Monte Cristo'. At first I thought it was going to be really boring, but now I am captivavted in its deep mystries and my mind is constantly thinking on it. It may be a bit hard to read and informational, but I say it goes on the second shelf where all my other favorite books lie (the top shelf is taken over with boy-fav books by G. A. Henty). I love to read, and sometimes I get so excited over one part that my heart thumps very loudly in my head and usually laugh my head right off! Well, not physiclly, anyway.
Well, that's all for now. I will try to get ready my book by next week or so, then you can read it. Cheerio! And may the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!

Hullo again! I've not been on for quite a while, and to be honest, blogging is not one of my most favorite things to spend my time on. But anyways, my Mom had a birthday last week, and she got a cell phone (finally!). I told her Dad was about to get the black non-flip one and I knew she would probably like the red flip-phone better, and unfortunately for him, she did :) Also Leggy has a birthday coming up January 2nd, turning 7 years old. And eventually next year I will turn a teenager, Curu past the middle, and Striker just on it. Oh my!
I hope everyone has had a fun week! Right after my wonderful Mom's birthday we moved into our new house a few days before Christmas, and as we unpacked I joked about having so many things to unwrap, like gifts, just ones you've already had before :P I do have my own room, unluckily for my brother Striker, who will now have to sleep with my little brother Lego. I've had that stinker for almost 7 years now, and I think it would have been about time for someone else to share their room with him, though I still love him anyway.
I have been working on revising one of my stories, and will soon continue again on the other one so I can post it on Arya to amuse you for a short minute or two. So how was your Christmas? Ours went well; we open the stockings on the Eve, hot chocolate mugs mostly, and in the morning Lego and Strike woke everyone up, exclaiming, "Its Christmas! Its Christmas! Get up, lets open presents!" Even my eldest brother Curu was more into it than usual, though mom and I tried to convince them that Jesus' birthday was not only about and used up by getting presents and playing games for the rest of the day. I did get what I wished for though, that tricky Mom of mine! I saw these cute little black shoes at the store a month ago and told her that was what I wanted. Weeks went by and she let me believe she never got them and they sold out. I was flabbergasted to be sure and a bit down, but I got over it before the holiday and forgot too, until she surprised me on Christmas day with them. I have such a wonderful Mom! Thank you! And Happy Birthday Jesus!
I also have two great friends back before we moved who sent me each something also. TheRedHeadedDancer sent a cute magnetic picture frame that had "Peace" on it, and Joi a soft blanket that she trimmed and made. When I had lived in South Dakota for 10 whole years, I never had a real friend like I did in California for just 2. And I had not one, but a group of real friends too who are very loyal and honest and trustworthy; the best friends I have ever had or wanted.
For all those who commented on my last entry, I might not be able to comment for some time, unless I finally get to you blog. This computer does not like new pages, and will take a long while to load.
Happy New Year everyone! You'll catch me some other day, in a week or two maybe.
May the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!

Hello everyone! My writing has been going successfully so far. I just love finding new words to make it more interesting :) My good friend theredheadeddancer is already almost finished with her novel and will be writing some more books soon after she publishes it. Congratulate her on her success!
Writing is one of my favorite subjects, and to get an idea of some good writing, read as many large books as you can written by the great authors J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Christopher Paolini and Bryan Davis, and many others. Maybe you'll find some tips, if you are interested in writing also!
Right now I am reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, another good author. One thing I thought interesting in the book is the way they talk. One was that they made long remarks and sentances everyday in their usual life style. Another was that Jane Austin wrote how they talked, like "shewed" instead of "showed", and such. But it makes the movie more fun to read!
On my second blog Arya, I will post soon a book report on yet another book called the Five Little Peppers, Midway. But thats all for now. Hehe! Ok, I'll talk to you guys later! Cheerio!
May the day dawn and the morning star rise in your hearts!
Well, what do you know. I'm here! Hallo everyone! To reassure you, my family and I safely arrived at our hotel a week or two ago, and from then till now at this moment we have been occupying our time with school, devotions, reading, blogging and such on the computer, and watching a few shows on the TV's in our rooms. In my free time I try to fit in an hour every evening for writing and sketching, so I can at least say that I had done some things of importance. But every time I try, my brothers always then find something noisy to do, which makes me loose concentration and self-control, gives me a head-ache, and makes me have a strong feeling to pummel them. :-P Erg, do I hate my wild temper!
Morning and night my little brother and I go down to the hotel restaurant because we "kids" get to eat free. How wonderful! *rolls eyes* The kids menus are only meant for people who stay just a week. Longer than that, you get pretty sick of the same things.
Yesterday our monitor blacked out on us so we had to get a new one. This one is even bigger that our 19" old one! It was on sale, though, so now we've got it, and its quite bright. I hope my blog doesn't come up too big for your screen!

Alas! We are leaving in only three days, and there is so much to do! Within this small amount of free time I write to you, my last letter - erm, entry - that I can afford to write until after we move. I did, though, on the other hand, receive the Blogger Reflection Award from TruthSeeker and JCBlogg.
Thank you Seeker and JC!
And those who I think deserve this award: Earthling, my mom, and my best friend, theRedHeadedDancer, who just signed up to HSB. Go over and say hi! Especially if your an Irish fan :)
[EDIT] If anyone noticed, I changed this blog again! Wahoo! This time, its water and ships. Looks alittle brighter than that grey I had, don't you think?
*Ahem!* Erm, I regret to announce that this is the end! I am leaving now, er, for a month at least. I bid you all a very fond farewell. Good-bye!
Wow, moving is now only a week and a half away! And now the days are not so relaxing anymore. Cleaning, washing, bleaching, scrubbing, polishing, moving, heaving, lifting, piling, packing, and painting usually take up the day, also along with our regular chores, such as scrubbing out the bathrooms until they shine, painting the hallway, taking care of the trash, and tiding up my and my little brothers' room. Oh! It gets so tiring, but I'm glad I have today off, and basically half of tomorrow and Thursday, because I have group meetings on those days. Oh, and don't forget the yard work! :P I don't think I want to get detailed in that. *Sigh!* When we move we are going to stay in a hotel for a month so we can clean out the house we will move to, so I'll have to start all over on that list I proclaimed so happily up there in the beginning parts of this paragraph .
I just finished making up another song on my synthesizer, and so now I have three complete songs in my head that I don't know how to write down. I cannot read notes, so that one's ruled out, and I don't know if writing down the letter of each key will go very far, since my songs are real long. I do have a music software that is able to have the piano (synthesizer) connected to the computer so that when you play it, the notes will show up on the monitor, but I don't necessarily know how to do that, and usually we are too busy anyway. But I plan to get it done soon if I can. I hope I have a long memory span!
"Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. " 1st Peter 1: 17-21. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened to Christians if the Bible had not been written. The Bible is God's guidance and Word to us, and without it we have no evidence against evolution that we can prove, and evolutionists will take over and ruin the world from what God had intended for it. I am glad God provided us a book to learn from Him. Thank you Jesus!

The girls at 5 Minutes for Mom want to celebrate moms! I mean really – they couldn’t let YOUR day just slip by unnoticed! There has to be a celebration – a lavishing of gifts! From now until Mother’s Day, they will be posting various contests so check in often!
I just wrote a play script for a play my friend and I are doing. The play is called "The Fruitful Dream" which is about this girl (who we call 'the Dreamer') who is not a Christian. She, one night after a fight with her parents, then has a dream. She comes into the dream and meets the first Fruit of the Spirit: Love. Then after Love gives her a lesson, the Dreamer comes to Joy, and then so on until the Dreamer comes to me: Goodness. I hope you ejoy this!
The Fruitful Dream
Script 6: Goodness
The Dreamer walked into a beautiful garden full of many different kinds of flowers and trees. She comes to a little clearing in the garden, where an apple tree stood by it’s self in the middle of that clearing. And sitting under the tree, she sees a girl.
The girl was just about her age, and was wearing a long white dress with a bright green ribbon tied around her waist. In the girls’ hand, the Dreamer saw, a beautiful little ____(I don't know what color)____ flower.
The girl suddenly looked up at the Dreamer and smiled. "Good morning!" she said, standing up. "You must be ____(whatever name the person who plays the Dreamer will have)____."
"How do you know?"
The girl laughed. "I have my ways," she said twirling her flower with her fingers. "Then who are you?" The Dreamer asked.
"I am Goodness."
"You mean one of those Fruits of the Spirit, or something like that, like the ones I met earlier?"
"Yes," Goodness replied, "Now, as they did, I will show you how to apply my Fruit to your life. Come with me."
Goodness then led the Dreamer to the edge of the clearing where a small cottage stood. She went to the side of the house to an open window, and they both peered inside. On the floor were four little girls playing dolls together. Their Mother was cooking supper in the other room.
The Mother then called the girls to help her prepare the table for supper as she stirred a pot of soup. Two of the children jumped up and ran to their Mother to help, while the other two just kept playing on.
Soon the table was set and all the food was ready and it was time for supper. The Father had come home and the family ate. When the meal was done, the two girls who had helped their Mother prepare the table earlier, began to clear it off. But the other two girls left the table and played on the floor again.
After seeing this, Goodness led the Dreamer back to the apple tree and gestured her to sit down. "Please tell me," Goodness said sitting down next to the Dreamer, "What do you think the moral of that scene is?"
The Dreamer looked puzzled. "I don’t know what you mean."
"What happened in the scene you just saw?"
"Well, there were these four girls, and their mother called them to set the table, but only two came and the other two just sat there playing dolls like they didn’t even hear her. And after supper, the two girls who helped set the table began to clear it off without being told, at least that’s what I thought, but the same other two just left and started playing their dolls again, ignoring the table."
"You have paid attention vary well, ____(the Dreamer's name)____," Goodness said, taking a deep breath. "Now, did you learn anything from it?"
"Uh-I don’t know," the Dreamer hesitated. "No, not really."
"Did you see how kindly the first two girls obeyed their mother by obeying right away? The other two girls plainly ignored their hard-working mother. Does this remind you of anything?"
The Dreamer’s gaze slowly dropped to the ground. "Yeah, It reminds me of-well-me! I didn’t mean to hurt my moms’ feelings, but it’s just that she makes me do everything!"
"To be good is to obey. To ignore your mother hurts her, just as the two girls did who did not obey their mother. But to be kind and obey right away without question pleases your mother and she would feel proud of her daughter or son. You should try to obey right away when your mother or father calls you to do something, and they will feel proud of you that you are learning. God loves you very much and so does your parents, but you need to obey them and treat them as you would want them to treat you."
Goodness pulled from a tree root a small card and handed it to the Dreamer. "On this card there are two verses from God’s Word that may help you work on this," she said. The Dreamer took the card and read the verses out loud:
" ‘Surely goodness and love will follow you all the days of your life, and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever’, Psalm 23:6; and ‘How great is God’s goodness, which he has stored up for those who fear him, which he bestows in the sight of men on those who take refuge in him’, Psalm 31:19. Uh, thanks. I’ll try to remember."
"Good," Goodness smiled. "Now you must be on your way, for there are others waiting for you!" She then gave the Dreamer her flower. "May the goodness of God be with you!" And she left the Dreamer to go on her way.
This is an essay i also did at Toastmasters last week. Tell me if you like it!
Cats: the Purrrfect House-Pet
By Stefanie
"A dog is a mans best friend." That common saying may contain some truth, but dogs are not the only animal-friend whose companionship people enjoy. For many, a cat is their best friend. Despite what dog lovers may believe, cats make excellent house-pets.
Many people enjoy the companionship of cats. Most cats are affectionate. They will snuggle up on your lap and ask to be petted or scratched under the chin. Who can resist a purring cat? If they’re not feeling affectionate, cats are generally quite playful. They love to chase balls and feathers, or just about anything dangling from a string. They especially enjoy playing when their owners are participating in the game.
Contrary to popular opinion, cats can be trained using rewards and punishments, just like with a dog, and to avoid unwanted behavior or to preform tricks.
Cats are also civilized members of the household. Unlike dogs, cats do not bark or make other loud noises. Most cats don’t even meow very often. They generally lead a quiet existence. Also, mother cats train their kittens to use the litter box, and most cats will use it without fail from that time on. Even stray cats usually understand the concept when shown the box and will use it regularly.
Cats do have claws, and owners should make provision for this. A tall scratching post in a favorite cat area of the house will often keep the cats content to leave the furniture alone. But otherwise, cats can be declawed.
One of the most attractive features of cats as house-pets is their ease of care. Cats do not have to be walked, for they get plenty of exercise in the house as they play, and they do their business in the litter box. Cats also take care of their own grooming. Bathing them is almost never needed because they clean themselves. In addition, cats can be left home alone for a few hours without fear. Unlike some pets, most cats will not destroy the furnishings when left alone. They are content to go about their business until their owners return.
Cats are low maintenance, civilized companions. People who have small homes or less time for pet care should appreciate these characteristics of cats. However, many who have plenty of space and time still opt to have a cat because they love them. In many ways, cats are the purrrfect house-pet.
This is my speech i'm doing for speech class. Tell me if you think it's good!
The Life of Abraham Lincoln
by Luthien
Mr. Toastmaster, fellow club members, my name is Stefanie and I am here to tell you The Life of Abraham Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. Many people believed that he was the greatest of all the presidents. His firm leadership during the Civil War, which lasted for practically his entire time in office, determined the future of the U.S.
Lincoln was born on Feb. 12, 1809, in Kentucky. He had an older sister, Sarah, and a younger brother, Thomas, who died not long after he was born. Lincoln largely educated himself and eventually became a lawyer and politician.
In 1816, Lincoln and his family moved to Indiana. Lincoln's parents then went to a Baptist church that disapproved of slavery, and that was how Abraham hated slavery.
Abraham’s mother died in 1818, and the following year his father married a widow, Sarah Johnston. She proved a good and kind mother. In 1828 Abraham was able to make a trip to New Orleans. His sister died in childbirth the same year.
In 1830, Lincoln and the rest of his family left Indiana for Illinois. Abraham made a second trip to New Orleans, and in 1831 he left home for New Salem, which is close to Springfield.
Some time later, Lincoln became a lawyer in 1836, and in 1837 he moved to Springfield, where he became one of his friends’ law partner. Lincoln later married Mary Todd, and they had four sons.
Lincoln served one term (1847-49) as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he opposed the Mexican War.
Abraham was losing interest in politics when the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by Congress in 1854. This legislation opened lands previously closed to slavery to the possibility of its spread by local option; Lincoln viewed the provisions of the act as immoral. Lincoln also thought that America's founders had put slavery on the way to ultimate extinction by preventing its spread to new territories. He saw this act as a new and alarming development.
In 1856, Lincoln joined the newly formed Republican Party, and two years later he campaigned for the U.S. Senate. In his speech at Springfield he expressed the view that the nation would become either all slave or all free: "A house divided against itself cannot stand," he had said.
In February 1860, Lincoln made his first major political appearance in the Northeast when he addressed a rally at the Cooper Union in New York. He was now sufficiently well known to be a presidential candidate.
He went on to win the presidential election, defeating the other candidates.
By the time of Lincoln's inauguration in March 1861, seven states had withdrawn from the Union. And on Apr. 12, the Civil War began.
Lincoln joined the war and became the commander in chief, and was soon noted for vigorous measures, sometimes at odds with the Constitution and often at odds with the ideas of his military commanders. Famed for his court-martialed soldiers, Lincoln took a realistic view of war by killing the enemy. Above all, he always sought a general, no matter what his politics, who would fight. He found such a general, and then gave him overall command in 1864. Thereafter, Lincoln took a less direct role in military planning, but his interest never wavered, and he died with a copy of orders for the March to the Sea in his pocket.
The war required a huge number of men and a lot of materiel; therefore, Lincoln turned to the only large organization available for his use: the Republican party. With some rare but important exceptions, the Republicans received the bulk of the civilian appointments to the local post offices.
The Democrats accused Lincoln of being a tyrant because he proscribed civil liberties. Lincoln tolerated criticism from the press and politicians, often restrained his commanders from overzealous arrests, and showed no real tendencies toward becoming a dictator. There was never a hint that Lincoln might postpone the election of 1864, although he feared that he would surely lose to the other candidate.
The Constitution protected slavery in peace, but in war, Lincoln came to believe, the commander in chief could abolish slavery as a military necessity. The preliminary Emancipation Proclamation of Sept. 22, 1862, bore this military justification, as did all of Lincoln's racial measures, including his decision to accept blacks in the army.
Lincoln's victory in that election changed the future of the United States. It also agitated a man named John Wilkes Booth, who decided to kill Lincoln. On Apr. 14, 1865, Lincoln attended a performance at Ford's Theater in Washington. There Booth entered the presidential box and shot him. Lincoln died the next morning.
And that’s the life of Abraham Lincoln. Thank you.

The Tale of Beren and Luthien (part 1)
On a cold winter night of 455 First Age great rivers of flame issued of Angband and consumed the slopes of Ard-galen, devouring the Elves and Men that besieged the fortress. Then servants of Morgoth issued from the gate, attacking the Eldar host. Thus started the fourth of the great battles of Beleriand Dagor Bragollach, the battle in which the siege of Angband was overthrown and Morgoth triumphed over many of his enemies. Great Eldar perished in that battle and Finrod Felagund would have been among them was it not for the bravery of Barahir, now lord of the house of BΓ«or, and his people. In the Fen of Serech, where Finrod was cut off from his host, Barahir made a spear wall with his bravest men, and they cut their way out of the battle with great loss. Felagund returned to Nargothrond, but he did not forget the bravery of Barahir. He swore an oath of abiding friendship to Barahir and all of his kin, and he promised them aid in any need. Then Finrod gave Barahir his ring as the token of the oath that would claim his life.
But Barahir and his men would not forsake Dorthonion, defending it against the creatures of Morgoth until only twelve of his men were left, his son Beren among them. Then they withdrew to the East of Dorthonion, to the waters of Tarn Aeluin, the lake that the men of Barahir held in great reverence. There they made a lair that even Morgoth with all of his spies could not uncover until he gave Sauron the strict order to find and destroy them. Then Sauron came to Dorthonion, and with his sorcery and phantoms he captured one of Barahir's companions Gorlim the Unhappy. For the promise of what Gorlim desired most to be reunited with his wife, he revealed the location of Barahir. Then Sauron mocked him and put him cruelly to death.
Thus came the end of Barahir. For using the darkness of the night, Morgoth's orcs assaulted the camp of Edain unawares and slew them all except for one Beren, who had been sent out by his father to spy on the movements of the Enemy. But as he slept, the wraith of Gorlim came to him in his dream and warned Beren of his treachery, bidding him to warn his father. Then Beren woke up and sprang to the lair, but he was too late. Beren buried the body of his father and swore an oath of vengeance upon his enemies. Then he chased the Orcs that slew his kinsmen and because of his great woodcraft skills, he came to their camp unseen. And Beren saw the Orc-captain boasting and holding the hand of his father with the ring of Barahir on it, which was taken as a token of success for Sauron. Then Beren leapt out of the forest and slew the captain, taking the hand of his father and fleeing from the dismayed Orcs.
During the next four years, Beren had still not left Dorthonion. He became an outlaw, bold and desperate, who did not fear death but only captivity. And Orcs feared him and fled when he approached, but beasts and birds became his friends, for he ate no flesh of living beings. The fame of his deeds went far and wide and came even to Doriath. Then Morgoth set a price upon his head that was no less than was for the head of Fingon, High King of Noldor, and he sent Sauro to capture Beren. And Sauron brought werewolves in his army and the whole land was covered with evil, pressing Beren so hard that he was forced to flee from Dorthonion. He went through Ered Gorgoroth, the Mountains of Terror, where the sorcery of Sauron and evil left by Ungoliant came together with the girdle of Melian, creating chaos and horror. None know how Beren found his way through the land, where there is no food for Elf or Man and monsters lurk that were born long before the rising of the sun walk, but he found his way to the borders of the Hidden Kingdom. Great doom lay upon him and the power of Melian could not stop him, and he passed through her girdle. Thus he entered Doriath, the Hidden Kingdom.
