I am a schedule type of person. I am trying to learn to jump out of my little box and just do things with the kids that I usually would not do during school. I am a list checker with school and want to get everything on my list done. On the weekends I have no problem at all just flying by the seat of pants, but when it comes to school I have a hard time when I don't get things done. Today---- I jumped out of that box . We dropped what we were doing and went to a park for lunch and just played. We looked for leaves and pinecones, played in the sand, did some reading, took some pictures and laughed together. It was so much fun. The kids loved it and so did mom! We will be doing more things like this again---SOON! We were able to enjoy God's creation in a total different way today--- a picture in a book couldn't come near the real thing. |

I am in the middle of organizing our school room and getting it ready for school. I have been planning for this year for awhile now. I love to make schedules and organize the year--- but many times I don't follow through with my plans. So I am making a list of the must have subjects and the extra's. I love having extra fun things planned for the kids. We love to have fun around here!!! My goal is not to get so caught up in my check off lists. And to make learning fun. School starts on Monday! The kids have been asking for school for a couple of weeks now---- so here we go!! |

There is so much I would like to teach our children, but my days go soooo fast. I have so much to pack into the day and then I look at our day and the kids have no free time to be kids. It is all such a balance for me. I want our kids to be kids and do fun kid things. I want them to play outside, jump rope, swing on the swings, get dirty, run in the rain, play with the water table, sit on the porch swing , ride their bikes, go for walks, play tag, etc., etc. . My goal for this spring is to let them explore more. We will be doing our school, but maybe somedays outside. We will be learning, but maybe not in the traditional way. Our kids learn so much more when I let them learn by touching, putting things together, and being physically involved instead of putting a text book in front of them. Don't get me wrong-- we will still do math everyday. This is another one of the benefits of homeschooling. I love it!!!

Today is Monday and yes the beginning of another week. This week should look more like a regular week of school (if regular really is a good way to describe it :) ) . Shelby is doing such a good job in getting up in the morning. She gets up at 6:00am to start her day. She does her devotions, math, English, and spelling. Trying to get some of this done before the boys get up. This gives her and I some one on one time together. This week Shelby will be wrapping up her Helen Keller study. I am hoping to be able to dissect the cow's eye tonight or tomorrow night. I would like help from daddy :). The kids are very excited about this science experiment. Zachary and Austin will be finishing their Russia study this week. It is fun to hear them describe things they have learned to Keith. They will also be finishing building their covered bridge. Books I will be reading to them this week are: George Muller--Faith to feed ten thousand, The Light at Tern Rock, The legend of Fire, The Octopus, and of course our Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 " All scripture is insprired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. So that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." Sometimes it is so easy for me to grab a book to help with training our kids ( not a bad thing), but right here in this verse it tells me the scripture has what I need to train our kids. God's word needs to be my first book I turn to. Ok-- off and running. I think today we will take a walk before we start school. I like to tell the kids we are going to walk to school :).

We have gone on a few different kinds of field trips this week. This has helped our week go quickly, since Keith has been out of town. Monday, we went up to New Life Church to watch the police officers leave the church, after they had attended a funeral of a local police officer. It was neat to watch our kids wave and thank the police officers (we must have seen 900 police cars). No book could teach this to our kids. It was such a good reminder of what our police officers do for us each and every day. They deserve a HUGE thank you! Tuesday, we went to the zoo. It was 70 degrees here and we wanted to enjoy the beautiful day that God gave us. At the zoo we have a new baby gorilla. This was the highlight for the kids. Tuesday was also National Pancake Day. So guess where we went? We went to IHOP for a free breakfast. Well, the shortstack was free---but I got milk and bacon for the kids and ended up spending money! We had fun and the boys(all 4) were unable to eat all of their pancakes!!! Wednesday a field trip to Sams! What is better than free cookies? We also had Awana last night. Today we are staying home and working on school. We are studying Russia. Yesterday we learned about some of the foods they eat. I don't think the kids will be eating caviar anytime soon. We are also making a bridge out of popsickle sticks. I will try to post a picture of our finished project. I have been encouraged by these verses, Psalm 90:12 " So teach us to number our days, that we may present to you a heart of wisdom." vs 14" O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." When it says, " teach us to number our days", what does that mean? I think we need to look ahead --- where do I want to be in 10, 20, and 30 years of my life. Where do I want to be spiritually? If I don't set goals I will never have anything to obtain. I would like to be a woman of prayer, worship, and wisdom. And this all starts today! If I wait until tomorrow, I will be the same person that I am today and at the same spot spiritually.
