• Apr. 22, 2006 - Chewing up worms!

I just caught Aaron in the kitchen..... washing worms.

Mom "What are you doing?"

Aaron "Washing worms"

Mom "WHY?!"

Aaron "Because I don't want to eat dirt when I chew up the worms!"

See today Aaron caught ANOTHER bird. This is his third.... the second literally flew into his tummy and he grabbed it. LOL

So we explained how you should NEVER pick up a baby bird.... but apparently one of our puppies was about to get it.....

Sooo his daddy had asked "are you going to catch & chew up worms for it??? that is what the mommy does...."

Then daddy went to work....

The result was my catching my son washing worms in my kitchen sink!

I told him he could just mash them with a fork...

icky!

btw - the bird did eat a little mashed worm.

Sooooo anyone know how to care for a baby bird?????????

Just remind him that if he is going to chew the worms, that there is also dirt on the inside of them, not just the outside. ;)

James Dobson tells a story of how his father fed some orphaned birds and they kept on eating and they kept getting sicker until they all died. It turns out that they will open their mouths not just when they're hungry. They literally overate themselves to death. There's a specific regimen you should follow. I would call your local zoo, and if they're no help, you might try Google at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=caring+for+orphaned+baby+birds&btnG=Google+Search

ok.....you need to feed it baby bird food. in a syringe(sp?) and it needs to be warm, not too hot obvioulsy, but wamr like it was just regurgitated, cuz that's actually what they do.when the crop gets empty, it needs to be fed. about every couple of hours, depending on it's age. you need to make sure he cleans the food off of it's face very well. keep it in a warm draft free place. and be acreful not to feed too quickley or it will choke and die

Unfortunately the baby bird did not survive the evening.
