So far behind...

I sometimes wonder if I'll ever catch up.

We have had many stumbling blocks since Christmas.  I've posted about some here.

Princess & I have been reading & I see she is so far behind.  I am going to have to use some 2nd grade things for her to be able to read on her own.   She understands grammar concepts, punctuation, capitalization, etc.  It is just that things on her grade level would have to be almost completely read by me.

She can read, just not near the 4th grade level she is suppose to be going into this coming year.

That is one reason I want to keep this blog anonymous.  I want to be able to share my real struggles & triumphs without feeling like everyone is judging me or my children.

I'm printing out some reading charts so each time she finishes a book she gets a sticker.  After so many stickers she gets to choose a prize. (like- Go get an ice cream with Daddy, Go shopping with Mommy, etc)  Hopefully this will motivate her because she could care less about reading.

Has anyone else had a child that has had trouble with reading?  I know each child is different, but my son who is not 14 read as much as she does at about age 6.  It just came naturally to him.   I know I'm always asking for advice on here, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I really know in my heart everything will be ok, but I just feel really behind sometimes.

Lord, You have always given me everything I need.  Please help me to trust in you & that everything has a time & place.  ~Amen

My daughter has struggled and struggled with reading. I don't know how old your Princess is, but my Belle is going on ten, and she is still struggling, although it is slowly getting easier. She can read books on a third and fourth grade level with me sitting beside her encouraging her. She doesn't read much on her own yet.

I can only encourage you to persevere. Don't push too hard, and don't fret. With practice and time, I think things will get easier for your daughter too.
Blessings,
Karen

I have a 9 yo son who is a struggling reader. He reads on about a 2nd grade level and is very slow. This summer I gave him and my other son a book log to fill out. After it is filled they get a 1/4 lb of candy. I am trying to motivate him to read. Also, we listen to tons of books on tape to help nuture a love and curiosity for books. Hope that helps. Jun. 2, 2008 - Praying for you

I know you are concerned, but I love that since you homeschool her, she doesn't have the added pressure that would come from a standard ps classroom. Stick with it. I love how God made each child unique and I pray tonight for the young lady yours will become and what God has in store for her!
