2nd week of School

Today was a very late start with school. We had phone lines cut by the state working outside and then we had to re download our cable internet ??

Anyways, it went smooth sailing today as usual.. Joshua was fussy but I figured a way to get him to cooperate with me ( give him a puzzle ) when he gets cranky and let him finish it then praise him , GREAT Job Joshua I bet you can whoop this shapes and math into size just like you did that puzzle , and booyah he fals for it and completes them =)

MJ on the otehr hand begs to do more in school =) WOOHOO WE HAVE A WINNER THIS YEAR !!!!

We designATED 2 PAGES OF EACH SUBJECT PER AY TO be done within 7 to 8 months this year and all is looking good.. MJ begs for more so we do more but not in the curric books .. But have no fear I have plenty of books other than the curric books for him to do =)

I look like  a Library in here =) but it is all good too =)

Tomorrow we start a new Lapbok I cant wait =) MJ loves Bible Study. The way I cut them off in midstream they cant wait to hear the rest =)

3rd day of School 09-07-2007

Oh my word , I just love school... We started around 10 am and was finsihed by noon...

MJ started off with writing and Joshua as well , and they have totally memorized the new home address and telephone number we have =)

I am letting them do similar things to help me out as well =)

We looked at our Ant Farm and all looks great , we fed them sugar water like the instructions told me to and I think this weekend "we" uhhh hummmm ME will collect more to go in here..

We started a gross project today , yes really gross but it is going to be so educational..

Ok , ready???

We have gathered some rotten produce and stuck it in a box with sand and leaves and pine tree clippings ( all that was around ) and we are going to start a Maggot Farm , ewwwww I know but I want to show the boys how maggots become flies...

We are starting Monday on an all week long Fly study and I also put up a fly strip the kind you buy at Wal Mart to collect us some flies =) We also captured some and have them in a small plastic hermit crab tank with a ventilated lid ... We are going to see if we can make them survive and see how long we can study them..

I cant wait to gather maggots , how sick is that? LOL I am so into homeschooling this year , much more than ever.. I think it is because Joshua can actually partake in alot with us and that makes it mor funnier for MJ as well..

We also learned about Mooses today and did the Arts and Crafts section on making them..

You need 3 pieces of construction paper , Scissors , Glue , Markers , Googly Eyes and Sand..

You trace both hands and cut them out on seperate pieces of the construction paper , then trace foot and cut it out too , then glue the hand prints on top of the foot ( actually the heel part ) - Then allow them to glue it ( so much funner this way ) and then place googly eyes on it , and glue them and the nose to the paper.. Then with markers make the mouth part of it..

Then spread glue all over the antlers part and sprinkle sand all over it and shake sand back into box.. This makes the antlers look velvetty... THEY LOVED IT...

I will add a picture as soon as my digi camera batteries charge up =) So, so , so much fun yall...

2nd day of School 09-06-2007

WOW! is all I can say , the day literally flew right by us.

Again , I let them do one page in each subject and asked if they were ready for a break and both replied back , "NAH"... So we continued throughout the rest of the studies and were done faster than ever.

We did'nt do Arts & Crafts today. Joshua loved doing his puzzles..

First day of school - 09-05-2007

1st day of School

MJ and Joshua did rather well today.

We started out slow and finished within 3 hours =)

They only did one page per subject today , wanted to make it quick and painless for them since it was first day back and all..

We accomplished-

Reading - Me orally to Joshua and then MJ orally to Joshua and me.I love it the same way I read to MJ when he was little he is doing the exact same things to Joshua.. Explaining the big words and then telling him what they mean and gives examples to them too =)

Writing - Practiced Lower Case and Alphabets with Joshua and address update and in Science as well.

With MJ writing was - updating address and memory of the new address and telephone number

He also had to write for English and Science.

Bible Study was great , starting at the front of course in Genesis..

They cant wait till tomorrow to learn what happened next..I am cutting off half of the lesson to make them be anxious about the way it ends so far it is working GREAT!!!

Math went easily , Joshua had some problems but we will overcome this.

MJ's math went great , better than I expected..I had to help with with an aid to help but thats ok too.. With him having Tourette Syndrome and OCD it is a handful to take in but we will manage by Trial and Error and get it right to succeed.

English was good and when I read orally to Joshua it was on the subject English was on , by pure coincidense....

Science we learned about Ants and then we began making a LapBook for ANTS...

We also watched an episode of The Magic School Bus - Ants in his Pants.

Then we went outside and gathered some Ants up in cups and got them into our Ant Farm container =) That was a feat and a hurtful one for me LOL... MJ placed his cup down to scoop them and got one on him and he screamed bloody murder.. So needless to say I will have nightmares about ants for awhile seeing as I had to scoop them all into the cups and place lids on them and oh my word , they were all over me.. AHHHH!!!

I got bit of course by a few but all is good in education..right?huh?? LOL

We then did Art Class while making the LapBook by making them draw , color , cut out their ant pictures to place in the LapBook. Made them measure as well , had to get some more math in ya know..

Then the Crafts part was putting Glue on cardboard and then spinkling sand all over it and glueing some grass ( green construction paper) under the dirt ( sand)

and then tomorrow we will follow up with that project. Again , I cut it off making them want to do it tomorrow .. Anticipation is not my kids strong suit....

But it was a very good day. We took breaks for Breakfast , and Snack time was when we watched the Magic School Bus DVD and Lunch followed after Art class..

I was excited and see where my so called organized room was'nt as well organized as I thought =)

I pride myself in cleanliness , organization skills and the On Top of it theme..

Well I was wrong ...My stuff is very well organzied in its own little organizer cubby ( plastic shoe boxes) but placing them together was the big thing..I have about 30 plastic shoe boxes and they are nicely stacked under the media table area, and well, this is'nt going to work..

I was flipping lids off all day to find out what I needed and where they were located.. Today I am off to the Label dept to get a label maker to label the containers to make it easier on me..

I am also going to need more ink for the printer as I love what www.edhelper.com lets you download and print for free.. These facts and sketches of the Ants was very easy , kids loved them, and asked if we could do them daily..So I need more ink..
