Clean off Your Desk Day!

So today is the National Clean Off Your Desk Day. I am doing my part by throwing away all the misc. food/drink type trash off my desk. I totally don’t subscribe to the “A clean desk = an organized mind” theory. I forget who said that . . . the quote is on my desk somewhere.

But for those of you who just needed a National Day to get started on the dreaded task – here it is.

Below is a press release from www.organizingresources.com I am only including the first few paragraphs because the origin of this day cracks me up. I am the opposite of the Anne described below: I throw cloths over my OWN desk so I can work without all the visual abstraction of my own clutter.

I am taking a poll – how many of you have a clean desk right now? Honestly!

PS - I just cleaned off my desk. My method? Buy a large can of compressed air and blow, blow, blow!

National Clean Off Your Desk Day

Second Monday in January

Are you concerned about what may be hiding in those piles on your desk?  Start the New Year off on a good start by tackling that messy desktop during National Clean Off Your Desk Day!

This special day was originated by Anne Chase Moeller, the daughter of Mr. Chase of the Chase’s Annual Events—the very book where special events are listed.  Anne often helped out in her father’s office and shared his incredibly cluttered desk.  In order to create a place where she could work, she would spread a cloth over his chaos and then do her work.  When she finished, she would put her things away, including the cloth and leave.  The end of 1982 she declared that he would clean off his desk at least once each year.  Naturally, being in the business, they entered National Clean Off Your Desk Day into the record book for the second Monday in January, and the rest is history.  The record book has since been sold to a larger publisher, but the event is still celebrated each year.  It is a great time to get a fresh start for the new year.

You've inspired me to post on my blog for the first time in awhile. Go read it and see where 'the magic happens'. Well, when I get around to the magic, that is. I took today off as a mental health day - I'm going crazy with all the work!! (Not you, the *others*). Hopefully I can get caught back up by the weekend.

I hope you enjoy the little glimpse into my 'creativeness'. :-)

Did you take my cans of compressed air? They were right here on top of my desk not that long ago and now they're gone. I wasn't going to 'clean' with them, per se, I was just going to relieve my keyboard of some of the unmentionable stuff stuck down between the keys. Oh well...I'll find the air eventually...hopefully before my keys stop functioning.

January 11, 2007 - I'm with ya

I did my part on this day to take off drink and food stuff. I did "clean" my desk... I have company over tonight, but like I told Jodi.. I cleaned it by moving around the mess in a "creative/brilliant" way. It's all still there... just not as scattered. (I even hid a few things under the keyboard.) ROFL

Nice to "see" ya post again. Missed ya. I pray for ya when I think about ya.

Hugs,
Dianna

I missed it! Does this mean I can wait until next year to clean up my desk? Actually, my desk is spotless at the moment. Only because we haven't been home for several weeks. : )

I actually cleaned off my desk yesterday. Woo hoo!!! It lasted about 2 hours before my hubby came home and plopped down a bunch of files. Hmmm...That compressed air sounds pretty good right about now ;-)
(Oh...if you're wondering who I am, I'm a friend of Melissa's from Pittsburgh.)

January 20, 2007 - Lost my desk...

My office has become the abyss... well meaning freinds and family have claimed it as the spot to put all the "where does this go" items as they have visited, cared, cleaned, brought food and just visited the last 11 weeks, since the accident. I broke my leg pretty badly back in November...I am doing good, started walking last week - still in a "boot", hoping to start rehab next week after my next appt.

Loved the bat story - well, not loved it... and sad to say we have a bat story too... ewwwww...

Glad you are back posting here at HSB.

Blessings,

Melody (Vanna # 1 in Minnesota)

Does a 12 cubic inch workspace count?

I know this is an old post, but I just had to comment. I'm of the neat desk theory and mine is actually cleared off right now :-). I'm always interested in other people's tips for organization and cleaning--probably because I'm such a neat-freak myself. My whole blog is about homeschool organization.
