Assigning Chores

We have been working toward being more organized and efficient in our running of the household lately.  Of course that meant that this week both the microwave and the dishwasher died.   So, instead of each of the children having a day where they unload the dishwasher, they each have a day where they wash dishes.  We've been long enough with a dishwasher, that this means that Logan, Kathleen, and Laura all need to learn how to wash dishes.  The girls seem to be fairly enthusiastic about the whole thing.  Will wasn't - he wanted to take the dishwasher out and shoot it.   I may change the setup after I know that the younger children really know how to wash dishes, and 'buddy' them up with one of the older children.  We'll see.

Today I also decided that each of the boys would have one day a week to do their own laundry.  That leaves me two days a week to get the girls', Josiah's, and Mike's and my laundry done.  I am thinking I will have time during the other days so I don't get behind on household laundry, but again, we'll just have to wait and see.  The older boys used to do their own laundry years ago, and I got out of the habit of it, but I'm thinking it's time for them to begin doing this again.  They have to get their bedding done as well, and if they are going to be gone on their laundry day, they have to arrange with one of their siblings to switch days, so that they still get their laundry done.

So, that's the plan - for now anyway.
