Soccer

P. and H. have been playing soccer  again. It is a 6 week season, and this one is outside. They have so much fun running and I enjoy seeing them run with a purpose, but it is still cold to be outside! We just about froze tonight, in spite of being layered with a t-shirt, pullover sweatshirt and  zip up thick sweater. We sat out there for about 45 minutes and gave up for the last 15!  We were very thankful it was not raining though as on Wednesday, they only got to play a few minutes before we were so drenched, we had to leave. A hot shower was really appreciated when I got home!

Tomorrow  my sister is having a housewarming party for us! I am trying to get all ready and I got my camera back so  I will try to take some pictures and post them!

This morning, it was kind of funny, I had loaded up my tires to go and get my snow tires changed off finally and guess what? Yep.....it was snowing!!! It did not stop until after I got them off and new ones on! I ended up having to buy two new tires which was sort of a unexpected expense, but I am glad it was not all four.

Last night I attended a fundraiser  for a mission trip to Czech Republic that several teens and adults are going on this summer. It was alot of fun to attend and they had a great speaker, good food, and a silent auction. I actually won something I bid on!  I got 5 brand new books, a coffee mug and $20 gift card to a local resteraunt for  $20 and a set of  pretty pictures and vinyl wall lettering that says  "Give Thanks" with a wooden thank you turkey for $7.  I hope it helped them out some as I am going to have fun with it, if I ever get time again to read without snatching a sentence here and a sentence there!
Here is a link to some stuff about the trip in case you would like to read about it! It was really interesting!

I am also going to be part of a couple of blog tours in the next couple weeks! This one, Whisper of Freedom (Third book in Tricia Goyer's series), I am in the middle of reading right now and I am really enjoying it and wishing I had nothing else to do but curl up with it! Soccer gives me time to do some of the reading....It will be a bit different blog tour and I am looking forward to it as it is a MEME, not just the same old thing on everyones site!
I also have a couple other ones too! Anyhow, back to work!

This week its what DOESNT work for you, and for us thats buying produce at Wal-Mart. We dont do it. Tired to a couple time and will never do it agan. Maybe it just the Wal-Marts we have here, but for some reason it seems that when even we get the food home, it goes bad. Yuck, and a total waste of money.

Thats what........

Is anyone else noticing there is more competition for the good deals at the stores lately?  I missed a deal today as I  did not wait around by the milk  while the lady was marking them down and  a lady right in front of me  bought like 8 half gallons of milk at $1 each.....I was sad!

Oh well!
Wednesday: Chili and cornbread (I did not get my beans done in time yesterday so they cooked longer and I made Burger Bundles and rice for dinner last night instead)
Thursday:  Penne and garlic bread, salad (Thursday will be very busy, so I have to start the sauce in the morning simmering. I got Wheat french bread discounted and Penne for .50 so it will be a cheap dinner)
Friday:  Crockpot soup/Bread
Saturday: Beef and broccoli Stir Fry/ Rice
Sunday: Fettucine/ salad
Monday:  Black Bean Burritos
Tuesday:  Minestrone soup/  Homemade rolls

It is sort of going to be alot of pasta  this week, but that is what I got cheap this week.

Cold...

I have not been able to warm up lately! The basement stays pretty cold so  it has been warm outside so upstairs warms up without the heater, but i am thinking we are going to turn it on for the basement as I am shaking with cold down there, in spite of running the dryer! If I am going to get it unpacked, i am going to have to be able to feel my fingers!

Spring is blooming and it is warming up here!  F. mowed the grass this morning which I think we need to add some grass seed maybe so it is not all weeds, but I will have to learn about that! We got most of our school done today! I am still not finding everything since we moved as some is still in boxes, but hopefully this week it will be done! The basement and garage yet as well as painting the living room and bedroom.
I went through all the boys clothes today though as they all grew suddenly! It is amazing how it seems like it happens overnight!

We had a really nice weekend, it was busy, but a friend of ours got married and we got to go to the wedding. I had to carpool and since I was just going to be gone for  about 4 hours, F. took care of all the boys and I went. It was a full wedding so it was better that way! It was  so nice to see old friends and catch up on where everyone has been. There were some friends that it had been a really long time since we had seen them so that was nice too!

Sunday morning, I was making some stuff and heated up the oven and missed seeing  a clear plastic container in the back! I spent a good part of the morning getting it off my oven rack! 'Oops!" I don't like to keep things in the oven for that reason and it annoys me to have to take things out before baking!  I went to church, then we had a meal, then to another church service. I also met with the parents of a baby who are maybe going to have me babysit their infant! She is only 10 weeks old and so tiny!  The boys love babies and  I guess she loves noise, so that is good! It will just be two days a week, so it will add a little income too.

So, when I finally went to bed, I had forgotten to take T. to the bathroom before he fell asleep, when I do that, I  usually just take him, but I was so tired I forgot and he woke up having to go and crawled in bed with me instead since he was so tired.....yep.....we were changing sheets at 4 am.  Thankfully I had put the rubber mat on my bed just in case, so  no damage!

Nesting and a long over due update

Well, we are 26 week into this pregnancy...thats only 14 weeks until our due date, 8/8/08. Andrew is a active little man who wiggles a lot. Its getting to the point were others (besides Mama) can feel him move. There has been a few times that Da has been able to feel little flutterings.

I am feeling "nesty" and sometimes it drives Aaron nuts. I get the strongest urg to nest a night. So that means right before bed time and I even wake up in the middle of the night with something I HAVE to get done. I am a thoughtful wife and dont wake Aaron up these times. :D Here's an example, 3 nights ago right before bed we went through all the bos clothing and got all the 0-3 months put in his dresser! I am hoping to get is bed out of storage here soon. We have a co-sleeper we just love. Its a small bed that sttaches to the parents bed for co-sleeping. We have an antique full bed so there isnt much room for a baby with us. This works perfectly! I also have a moses basket that we are going to use. We didnt with Flora, but when Andrew is about 9 weeks we will be gone for 10 days. I want him used to sleeping in his bed so its not a huge change.

We have been so blessed, we dont have ot buy anything for this baby except a few "wants". Two families who had boys in the past year are giving us all the clothes that are to small! Its a huge blessing!

The girls are doing so good! They are loving being able to play out side in the sunshine! We have been spending a lot of the day out of doors. Mandi gave us 6 chickens and they have made the move into there new home. Aaron turned part of the little shed into a chicken coop with a yard off of it. They are still to small to use the yard, we just have to many stry dogs in our area, and we need to make a top to it.

Aaron has been busy with the ambulance and yard work. He is riding his bike to the station (4 blocks) for a bit of excersize and to save a bit on gas (not much) and manily wear on our poor old 'burban. Its just as quick for him to grab his bike and go then it is for him to get in, start and drive the truck up. The weathers ben so nice.

I am doing good. Feeling well and not uncomfortable yet! I am getting so ecxited to see and hold this little man....God hs been so good to us!

We hope all of you dear family and friends are doing well...dont forget! We LOVE comments! :D

sick little Noah

Our Sarah has always been pretty good about sharing, which is usually a good thing.  Unfortunately this weekend she managed to share whatever illness she's got.  She, Matthew, and even little Mary Faith have been running temps consistently higher than 102.

Noah seemed to be resisting the bug until a couple of hours ago when his temp started creeping steadily up.  As you know, any fever of  or higher lands him in the hospital for a sepsis workup - and he is almost at  now.   I called his infectious disease doctor and explained the whole situation with the sick siblings.  She agreed to let him stay home tonight even if he crosses the  threshold - UNLESS he starts to look really bad or his temp gets extremely high.  If that happens we'll have to head to the ER in Greenville.

Initially she wanted him brought in tomorrow morning if he was still feverish.  He is due for his weekly bloodwork tomorrow morning anyway and I asked if we could just get a blood culture and infection-related labs done at the same time to avoid the drive to Greenville.  She agreed, so all I have to do is call her office in the AM to get the additional lab orders.  I am SO thankful!  If something really is going on, the labs will show a problem; and if he does just have this virus or whatever then we won't have hospitalized him in vain.

Virus or not, he and his siblings do feel utterly rotten.  Poor Sarah throws up whenever she has a really high fever, so Friday night we were doing the "change the sheets and bathe the girl" thing in the middle of the night.  She seems just a bit better today but still looks pitiful.  Of course, Mary Faith is nothing short of tragic looking - 102 + is a high fever for such a teeny bit of a baby girl!!  Please pray for them all.

Jeff needs extra prayer also.  He had the toenails removed from his big toe and its neighbor on Tuesday.  It makes me hurt just to think about it.  He got a prescription for an antibiotic but the toes seem to be getting worse and more painful anyway.  The podiatrist is an hour away and Jeff already has an appt. for Tuesday so he is hoping to hold out until then.  The poor guy is REALLY hurting.

My only complaint is that the healthy children just dug up a joke book and since I apparently look healthy and pain-free they have been blasting me with endless and unbelievable corny jokes.  (rolling eyes)  Apparently "Must laugh at really bad jokes" is part of the implied social contract of motherhood.  Is it wrong to be counting the minutes to bedtime LOL?  Maybe the joke book could disappear under cover of darkness . . . .

We just can't tell you all how much we appreciate the prayers, comments, emails, and calls.  Jeff is working on getting his resume out and we are going to be doing all that we can to build up the business (link now on the right - thanks for the suggestion!).  Our dream really would be that he could just stay home, but it would take a miracle for that to happen right now.  Of course, we serve the God of miracles so maybe that isn't asking too much!

Blessings,
Kate

Lost and found

Lost is a funny word.  Its meaning depends entirely one's perspective.   For every lost, there is a found.  If someone has lost a game, it means by default that someone else has found victory.  If a loved one dies, we say we have lost them -  but they aren't really lost.  They know exactly where they are, and what they have found.

Today my husband lost his job.  He walked into his workplace of 13+ years and was told that his position had been eliminated and that his services were no longer required.  He was given four weeks of pay and four weeks of health insurance.  He emptied out his office then surprised me by walking into our house at 8:30 in the morning with a smile on his face.  I couldn't imagine what would bring him home smiling at that hour and I was so surprised that I literally thought I was dreaming when he told me what had happened.

We talked for a few minutes, then we called the older children in and explained to all of them that we had been given an amazing opportunity to see God working and providing.  You see, I was shocked, but God was neither surprised nor dismayed.  This is, for whatever reason, a needful step on the path He has planned for us.  It isn't a step that we would ever choose, but that is the beauty of having a loving God in charge of our lives - He is capable of directing us into the places that we need but do not want.

On the face of things, this looks decidedly strange.  Jeff has been a faithful and excellent employee who has had consistently outstanding evaluations.  He was a one-man training department who developed and wrote many of the programs being used at his workplace.   Training and safety are an integral part of the foundry business, so it would seem that Jeff had a "bullet proof" job . . .  but God saw the need to stir the nest and move us forward in some new, unknown direction today.

We don't honestly know what the next step will be.  Our Hands and Hearts business is by no means capable of supporting our family, and it wouldn't seem that his four weeks of severance pay would give us enough time to build it to the point that Jeff could stay home full time.  He is passing out his resume, but this is a small town and times are hard in this area.  Just as we have said before in reference to Noah, we don't know what is going on, but we do know the One Who does know.

We need a lot of prayer right now.  It's pretty obvious that we need prayer for God's provision and leading.  I'd also appreciate prayer that my eyes would stay fixed on God right now and that I would be able to walk in faith through this.  Noah is definitely my Achilles’ heel here.  One of the first things that crossed my mind is that it takes $1,000 a day to keep my baby alive.  I need to remember that my Father owns the cattle on 1,000 hills and this is NOT too big for Him.  I'm struggling with a little grief as well.  Jeff and I have long desired to move to a home with some land.  We've been looking at our "dream home" the past few weeks and Jeff actually met with the owners last night to start negotiating a price.  We were hoping to sign a contract in the next few days.  I had to call them today and let them know that we are no longer in a position to obtain a mortgage.  It all seemed so perfect.  All the same, I do know that if God wants us to have that house, it will be waiting for us when we are able to buy it.

Noah also needs some extra prayer.  He had a negative C. Diff culture, but I felt in my heart that it was a false negative.  I asked the doctor to repeat the test, and this morning about two minutes after Jeff broke his news we got a call saying that Noah's test had come back positive.  Our pharmacy has called every drug store in town and no one can obtain the necessary new drug.  It's been ordered but Noah won't have it until next week.  He has been feeling worse and worse.  It's subtle and gradual, but he just seems to be less interested in his surroundings.  He is also sometimes clearly in a lot of pain.  There are times when he is wide open and busy and hilarious, but more and more often he just wants to sit with his head on someone's shoulder.  He still asks for food, but he feeds it to everyone else.  It's like he wants it but can't bring himself to eat it.

Sarah is on the couch tonight burning up with fever.  I've given her the last bit of Tylenol in the house and need to go purchase some Motrin in the hopes that it will help.  Please also pray for her and that Noah will not catch whatever has her so suddenly sick.

Thank you all so much for your love and your prayers.  We look forward to sharing with you as God provides and is glorified through all of these needs!

Blessings,
Kate

You’re a princess-cut diamond! You’re romantic, graceful, and sophisticated—just like the popular princess-cut diamond. Characterized by clean, square lines and intense sparkle, your relative rock conveys the kind of elegance and femininity that you possess. Plus, the rock’s clarity is as clear and true as you are with those close to you. At once classic and ladylike, a princess sparkler suits those who just love being a girl.
