Just got this off an email group that I am on. It is on how to deal with a stove top fire. I just showed it to my oldest who helps me cook porridge and macaroni on our stove top.

Mar. 3, 2008 - What Maths are u using?

Posted by Alice

Hi Serene
I met you 2 years ago during the HS fair at the Bukit Timah condo and remember you telling us the Maths curriculum you are using. I remember you saying that its quite drilling and do a certain extent its needed in Maths. I'm looking for something like that as I was recently awaken to the usefulness of the Kumon method. So I was wondering if I can find something similar than maybe I can DIY instead of sending the kids to Kumon.

I forgot to tell you how much admiration I have for you for singlehandling the kids, home keeping and homeschooling.

Cheeers to you.

Alice

Hi Alice

Are you referring to the Rod and Staff Maths books I mentioned in Teaching Our Pre-Schoolers on my website www.BuildingUpMoms.com?

The direct link to that article is found here :

Hi Serene
Thanks for the quick response. I can't remember but will check out your link. How Maths curriculum do you use for your school going kids? Do you use Singapore Maths? Do you supplement it with others? You buy worksheet from Popular? Do you have any publishers to recommend. I got so overwhelmed when I go to Popular. I end up not buying. My son is in P1 and having problems with chinese. Do you have any recommendations? His spelling is also weak although he reads rather ok.
Appreciate your advice, pl. thks

Alice

Yes, we use Singapore Maths for our primary level kids. I have used Fan Maths and the Challenging Maths series.

Books on Chinese is recommended by the tutor. :) Ting Xie just needs practice. I don't think there is any shortcut to that :(
