Heart Of Dakota~ Unit "4"
Heart of Dakota is a Unit Study Program for children up through the 6th grade. The Author is writing more manuals and they will eventually go through 8th grade. We love this program. LOVE IT! This is only the third time in almost 11 years I've found a curriculum that has almost no learning curve. This along with Time4Learning is such a good fit for us!
HISTORY
This week we learned about how the Pilgrims tried to leave England and were thrown into jail, then when they tried again the men made it to the ship but before they could go back for the women and children the soldiers had already taken them into custody. I love the review questions at the end of each story. They serve two purposes.
1- Helps my children pay attention because they want to get them right.
2- I start the next day off by asking them the questions from the day before. It's a nice icebreaker.
SCIENCE
The boys had so much fun with our science experiments this week. Our first experiment was about transparency. The boys had to hold up different objects to see if the light could penetrate the material. (Tin Foil, Parchment paper, Saran Wrap, Construction Paper)

The second experiment was about how water takes on the shape of the object it's in. The boys had to use an eye dropper to put drops on the top of a nickle. They tried to guess how many drops it would take. We were all WAAAAAY off! It took "14" drops before the water broke over the sides of the nickle.
