Black SwallowTail Butterfly

Hi Welcome to my page!

Well, this summer my mom and I are growing dill in our garden. As I was looking at the many dill plants I spied some black dots.  As I looked closer, they were caterpillars! I was so happy! Because last summer there was not one to be seen.

So what I did was I gathered up the tiny black dots and put them into a jar. I collected more dill and I put it in the jar. The first thing the caterpillars did was eat and eat! Every day they got bigger and bigger.  In about a week they were ready to transform into a chrysalis. The chrysalis looked very odd, it was green and shaped funny.  I did some research on the Internet and found out that the chyrsalis is actually the caterpillar's skin!

Another week later.... I awoke to a beautiful Black Swallowtail Butterfly ... Flying around my room!

I was lucky enough to have two different kinds of Swallowtails!  The butterfly that is yellow, is a Zebra Swallowtail.
