Another Year Round Schedule and a Contest

Posted in Homeschooling

I recently received a comment on my last blog from a fellow blogger, socalval, so I decided to go over to her blogspot to see what she had to say.

She had two great entries -  May 2 and April 29 that I really enjoyed reading. The first one is was about how very few public or private schools get through all of their curriculum in a year; and the second was a year round schedule based on six weeks on and two weeks off. I loved her idea because I tend to be a "sprinter", not a "long distance runner" so the traditional nine months of school with three months off has me a little frightened, but, honestly, even three months on and one month off seems a little daunting. Sad, I know. I am definitely thinking about adopting her schedule. Check it out, you might like a change too!

By the way, Spunky is giving away a Benz Microscope and Apologia Biology Set this week. Click Here to get the details.

May. 7, 2006 - More on HOW...

Posted by LizzieBee

Hi back,

Yeah, I would wait a couple of years. I even think that my kids would've benefited more if they'd been 13 or older, but that may be because I was a bit overwhelmed by all the resources and activities. In fact, I think HOW is great to do as an adult, it really is quite an education. But I have found that to be more and more true the longer I homeschool. Now that my kids are in high school (or almost there) I am learning right along with them...I finally get fractions and algebra! lol. If I could go back in time I would probably spend more time on selfl-education with some of the wonderful resources out there.

We're in southern California (desperately trying to get out). My grandmother lived in Merced, and one of my uncles lives there still. We enjoy the nice weather but there are a lot of liabilities, too, which I won't go into here. :-)

If you don't mind, I would like to add you to my friends list.
