I had an appointment with my midwife yesterday. Two weeks ago the baby was head down. Now the baby seems to be sideways. This is my fifth full-term pregnancy and I've never had a baby be sideways at almost 38 weeks.
After looking through my trusty, What to Expect When You're Expecting book, I can't find anything in there about a baby being sideways at this point - just head down or breech. My midwife told me to put my head down on the floor and stick my bottom up in the air to help encourage the baby into the right position. I'm also going in for an ultrasound on Thursday to determine exactly how the baby is positioned.
Any advice about how to get the baby into the right position and then keep it there? Any ideas why a baby would pop back out again?

Babies are silly things sometimes. I have heard of this as I watch a lot of Baby Story shows on tv. Or I did. I have seen the baby turn around again. Praying for some baby acrobatics. Sounds like you will be doing some too!

Jan. 24, 2007 - turning a baby

Thank you for your comment on my blog. Our children are very close in age. We are hoping for a girl this time. I would just love to have 3 girls. Still a no show though. I had lots of contractions last night but they stopped right about bedtime. And don't feel bad about whining. Truth be told, when I wrote that blog I was having one a my good days. I was up from 4-6am this morning crying and praying. My dh stayed home to work today just to give me some backup as I deal with tiredness now. I am having nesting urges so I think I am going to spend the morning cooking meals to freeze. I am really tired of being pregnant. I want to surrender it all but it really a daily thing right now. :)
Now to turning a baby. My youndest dd was posterior for the whole last month of my pregnancy. The chiropractor can work some if you can go see one. Most of the time I can't afford it. LOL!!! Also, watch how you are sitting in chairs. You are allowing the upper back to lean too far back and your belly to be too far in the air the baby will turn in any direction it can. Recliners are the worst place to be. I sit in my recliner with a huge pillow behind my upper back. It keeps my back straight. I have also found that sleeping on my left side keeps the baby in place. If I sleep on my right side too long, inevitably I have to spent the whole next day on my left side getting the baby back into the anterior position. I have also heard about the advice to get your bottom higher than your head. That is probably the best. I think at one point my midwife also told me that getting on all fours and wiggling the hips back and forth for a while can help as well.
You asked if I was having the baby at home or the hospital. I am planning a water birth at home. I had my last baby at home and it was awesome. I attempted to have my 3rd at home but that turned into a disaster. :( I think that is why I am so frustrated. With all the contractions I have had this month a dr surely would have brought the baby by now. But I know for myself that isn't the safest place to be. I am a VBAC patient and would have terrible complications if given pitocin or even had my water broken. My dh is more on board with the home birth than I think I was this time. LOL!!!! There have been times where I was tempted the throw in the towel and head to the hospital just to have them break my water. My midwife won't break it. While that frustrates me, I know that she has my best interest at heart. She will not augment labor because she believe that she's messing with God's timing. She's probably right but my bad attitude doesn't always agree with her. hehehe!!!
I pray for your comfort and that the little one will turn soon.
In His Grace,
Karen
