WICHITA HOMESCHOOL TEAM WINS FIRST PLACE IN LEGO MINDSTORMS CHALLENGE
Here are some great pictures of this year's Lego Mindstorms Challenge held at Wichita State University. Jeremy and Johnny's team won First Place! Also Jeremy and Johnny won the 'My Own Creation' contest with their entry of WALLE.
We all still can't believe it but our Tiger Scout, Jamey, won 2 trophies on Sunday at the Pinewood Derby. Jamey is a Tiger this year and as our youngest son he has watched many cars get built over his short life. His siblings (even his sisters and older brothers) like to make 'outlaw' cars even after they have moved on from Cubscouts. Jamey struggled with his 'theme' this year... really wanting Walle but Dad just couldn't see how to 'make' his ideas into a car (and follow the rules!) He then switched to Star Wars as he just watched episode 4 (his first Star Wars full length movie) and loved it. The light saber car they made was just perfect for him. Dad says he was the most patient of all his sons in his jobs. He painted it all by himself, did the nail sanding, etc He really got caught up in the 'making of the car'. He had definate ideas on how he wanted the shaft to look (stripes, button and switch). Having the car 'light up' was so important although he understood he couldn't race it with the light on incase it caused a malfunction of the race timer. Happily, the other scouts thought it was as cool as Jamey did and voted it BEST OF SHOW for the Pack! Our big surprise is that the aerodynamics didn't hurt his speed and he came in SECOND PLACE in the Pack races. Actually, 3 cars tied for first repeatedly and eventually the timer showed a hair of a difference and winners were determined! Jamey was so thrilled! World Youth Day 2008 in Australia (attended by Jenny and Joey)
Here is a slide show of World Youth Day 2008 in Australia. Jenny and Joey and friend Scott travelled 'down under' to meet up with the group from the Wichita Diocese to attend WYD'08. Pope Benedict 16 greeting and challenged the 400,000 Pilgrims with the theme, "You will receive power, when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses." While in Australia they toured the land and fell in love with the beauty of the Australia! Some favorite pictures are in this 50 photo slideshow.
Jeremy and Johnny attend Boyscout Summer Camp at QSR
Our Boyscout Troop went to Summer Camp at Quiviria Scout Ranch near Sedan Kansas. Great Program. Did have a bunch of high wind and storms but the boys still had fun and learned lots!
Jenny won many awards here lately. Including (but not pictured) is 3rd Place at an International Competition in Vancouver Canada.
Jenny Graduated with honors, the top of her class, Magna Cum Laude on May 17 From Wichita State University College of Engineering with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
She starts work full time in late August at Hawker BeechCraft in their 2 Year Management Developement Program. We are all so proud of her. This slide show shows some of her awards from WSU 2008 and her graduation.
Mark and (I) Susie were so blessed to get to go to Italy in May. (Mark must have taken a couple thousand pictures which is why it is so overwhelming to narrow them down to post to this blog. Here is a small sample. I will update it later.) We started in Rome and visted the Vatican for Mass with the Pope! Then we drove around central Italy to many wonderful and awesome pilgrimage sites. Mark had a client to visit in Italy so we added some vacation to the trip and saw such 'awesome' sites as Incorrupt bodies and Eucharistic Miracles! We got to be like the doubting apostle Thomas who said he needed to see to believe... well we did see these awesome miraculous sites... we want to share them with you!
Well, look at this nice trophy! Jenny won 1st place for Oral Presentation at the WSU Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum!! She gave a 10 minute version of her American Red Cross Industrial Engineering Project. Here is her picture with her trophy!
Jenny's friend Anna has a 'new' style Herbie and for a treat the girs took Jessy for a ride! (Jessy didn't get to go on the upcoming campout so this was a special time for her) What a treat! To get to ride in HERBIE!!! Dad took some great pictures of the excited Jessy and Jamey with Herbie. Thanks Anna!
