Blue Like Jazz

I wrote a very witty and well-organized post yesterday about Donald Miller and his book, Blue Like Jazz.  I had just listened to a cd of him speaking that a friend got for me and I was talking about how much I think of him and how his book has impacted me.  I do think that it was the most influential book I read in 2005.  However, there was some sort of computer malfunction and the post was lost in cyberspace forever.  I am very sad about that, but did want to go ahead and post that I do love Donald Miller and if you have not read BLJ, do run right out and get a copy.

Oh yeah, I did remember that I shared in my post about how I got to meet him at the CBA convention last year.  I waited in a very long line to get a signed copy of BLJ.  Now, I have been going to CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) for enough years that I usually don't get all starstruck by my favorite writers when I see them there (anymore).  But something happened when Donald Miller was involved.  I found myself gushing to him about how much I loved his book and how important I thought it was, and how every Christian should read it, etc.  He just nodded and said thanks and was very humble, just as I would have expected.  But it was his assistant dude sitting with him that was just looking at me like, "Move along little missy, we have heard it all before."

Believe me, I knew how I sounded.  Like a fan.  Possibly like a stalker.  But truly, I really did think that and felt compelled to tell him for some reason.  Ah, the embarrassment of it all.

Truth is, I would do it again if I had the chance.

So, that is my post about Donald Miller.  And as Forrest Gump says, "That's all I have to say about that."
