Marybeth's Musings on
Motherhood and More
|
Well, today has been a strange day in that 1) it is cold-- way chillier than yesterday, 2) several of my kids are coughing and I thought we were over that, 3) the oldest stayed home from school sick again today, and 4) my husband is home from work doing household projects. We had a problem with the dryer vent and for some reason, he decided that today was the day to fix it once and for all. I am not the best at explaining household maintenance stuff (how thankful I am that he was raised in a family that owned hardware stores!) but it has something to do with the dryer vent and rotting wood on the outside of our house. He has pulled off the siding that is rotting and replaced the deficient vent. It all sounds very complicated to me. As I say often, I am a kept woman and that is fine by me!
We did do school today. We read from From The Mixed Up Files, did our Bible, did Listen My Children, and will review our states and capitols flashcards in a moment. The kids did their independent school work as well and are both working on a unit review they have to do for the Total Language Plus guide to Mixed Up Files. This has been an easy unit to do and I think the kids are enjoying it. I have been inspired to write my own unit study on this book as there are so many interesting rabbit trails within its pages. I will try to do it eventually. We shall see.
I had one of my faithful readers leave me a comment begging me not to quit homeschooling. I wanted to put her mind at ease in saying that we are feeling that that is God's calling for us this coming year as well. I have periods of doubting that I can "do it all" in keeping up with writing and speaking as well as doing a decent job of schooling the kids. When I listen to these nagging doubts, it results in lots of praying and soul-searching. I know that God will continue to point us where we need to be and my goal for our family is to stay in the very center of His will for us. I am looking forward to another year of homeschooling next year, and thank God for His patience with me when I am at that point of doubting. He is faithful indeed!
Well, I am off to take care of my crying baby who is tired of her swing. The kids are waiting on me to do flashcards with them and the six year old needs me to do her school with her. My to-do list seems to grow and not shrink!

Yes, I know you are answering me. So glad to hear you are going to keep on this path. God will provide and I don't think you will regret it. And when I feel overwhelmed with all I am doing and like I am not doing a good job you can turn around and exhort me with the same words.
Blessings,
Jennifer
