Well, tomorrow we take the plunge back into school. The kids can hardly wait (ha ha!). Actually, I think they will be happy to have something to do and some routine back in our days. We have been aimless since May, and enough is enough. It has gotten too hot to really go outside, so what better way to be indoors than to be doing school? While that is not exactly what they were thinking, the nice part about starting early is you have more white space during the school year to declare a day off. So in the fall when the weather turns cooler, I can let them spend the day outdoors if we feel the urge. So, that is why we are starting back early.
Here is our tentative schedule for the year. It will be tweaked about a million times, but this is a rough estimate for how I want the day to go. Of course, it NEVER goes exactly like this!! But, you get the idea for how a day is structured at our house.
6-7:30 am: mom up, exercise, and devotions
7:30-8:30 am: kids up, breakfast, teeth brushed, rooms tidied, dress, devotions
8:30-9:15: assigned daily chores
9:15-11:15: school with mom (writing, missionary study, art dvd)
11:15-12:15: lunch and free time
12:15-12:30: timed writing in journals (coloring or drawing for little ones)
12:30-1:30: preschool time for littles with mom, individual work for olders
1:30-2:00: read aloud with mom
2:00-4:00: rest time, olders continue independent work
4:00-6:00: free time, outdoor play, dinner prep, clean up
6:00-7:00: family dinner, clean up
7:00-9:00: family Bible time, time with dad, bedtime preparations and baths
9:00: bedtime for all, quiet reading in rooms for olders, free time for mom and dad!
