Our Weekend, In Summary

Not that anyone out there really cares to hear how our weekend went, but I feel like writing it all up-- just so I can sort through the whirlwind that was our weekend.  So, here goes...

Saturday morning, I read some blogs and posted some stuff myself, and caught up on email a bit as well.  After I finished that and got a shower, the baby was up from her nap so I decided to take her off Curt's hands and head out for the... dum da dum dum... dreaded grocery trip!  I had to get food for the week as well as the beginning round of what we need for Thanksgiving Day.  So, that was what I did.  Curt was diligently working to rid our yard of leaves, so that was not an easy task and I knew he would not get anything done with her.  I did tell him that he needed to break away for a few minutes and pick up our girls from the Girl Scout sleepover they were at.

So we headed to our home away from home-- the grocery store.  Funny story, I ran into one of the ladies who works in the library while I was there and she commented that it was funny to see me out of the library.  I told her that I am either in the library or the grocery store if I am not at home!  So, it was fitting she would run into me in my other frequent haunt!

Anyway, after about an hour and fifteen minutes at the grocery, we headed home and had a late lunch.  Then we got the baby down for her afternoon nap and decided that we would leave our older children listening out for the baby while we ventured out to Target to get a few things we needed.  Our throw pillows on our couch were badly in need of replacing, and there is nothing like company coming to inspire you to see to those things!  So, we went off to Target with the four year old where we spent lots of money on niceties to make our home look presentable.  It was fun!  (Not sure my husband felt the same, but he was an extremely good sport about it all.)  After all that, we went to (where else? our favorite) Chick fil a and got a biggie tea for each of us.

We headed home, got our girls up who were asleep since they got NO sleep at the "sleep"over and headed them to the showers to get ready to go to their Praise Dance performance.  While they were showering and doing their hair, we made a quickie dinner of hot dogs for everyone and then loaded up the car and headed to the church where they were performing.  The performance was sweet, the girls were so proud of themselves, and I have to say that there is just something so touching about watching these little girls dance so passionately for Jesus.  It will bring tears to your eyes!  (At least, it did mine.)  After the performance, we surprised the kids with a trip to Krispy Kreme to get donuts and milk.  Then we headed for home, foolishly thinking we were actually going to get to go to bed.

After we got home and got everyone to bed, we kept hearing someone running around upstairs.  Curt would head up the stairs in a huff to tell them to get back to bed, only to find sleeping children.  This went on til about midnight.  We finally deduced that it was some varmint up on our roof running back and forth.  It was very annoying and we have never had this happen before.  As we were finally headed to bed after the varmint-on-the-roof incident, the four year old got up coughing and promptly threw up all over the floor in our kitchen.  Soooo, after we cleaned him up and got him settled back down, it was somewhere after 1am.  All I could do was lay there and worry that he would throw up again or that varmint was going to somehow get into our house.  I know that sounds way stupid in the daylight-- but in the middle of the night, things look disproportionate.  And so, I have no idea what time I finally fell asleep.

This morning was church-- which I had reservations about since we had the throwing up thing the night before.  My husband assured me that he only threw up because of the coughing and that it would be fine.  So, off we trekked to church... our new church, which I wrote about last week.  They were having a newcomer's lunch which we were planning on staying afterwards for, as we are never ones to turn down free food. We got through the service and the luncheon, I am glad to report, but all day the four year old kept threatening to throw up again.  I am not sure why he did that, but it made me a nervous wreck!  We had planned to go to the Southern Christmas Show (more about that in a minute) after church, but we decided not to after all since I did not want to risk him throwing up for real.  So, home we went.  The baby was ready for a nap anyway.

Once we got home, Curt suggested that I take the two girls to the Christmas Show anyway.  This show is three large buildings full of homemade crafts, novelties, gifts, toys... you name it.  I have been going since I was a little girl and have such fond memories of being there.  It has become a family tradition for us to go at least once.  Many times, Curt and I will make a date night out of it.  While it is not his favorite place, they do have strudel and spiced almonds, so he makes it through with a good attitude.  But alas, this year we couldn't get a sitter.

So, I decided to venture out with the girls, ages 12 and 6, for an afternoon of shopping and girl time.  What fun we had looking at stuff.  The six year old got a bit tired of walking and wanted every junky imported toy they had, but the 12 yo was in her element for sure!  I gave the 6 yo $10 to spend and the 12 yo had allowance and babysitting money.  It was cute to see them weigh their purchases so seriously.  So much different than when they are spending my money!!  My 6 yo got a cool notebook and some chocolate covered raisins and my 12 yo got a very cool shirt and a watch that is also very hip and happening, and she also got some chocolate covered raisins.  They must have inherited my love for these!

My find of the night was a wrought iron scroll looking thing (I'm sure there is a proper decorating term, but I have no idea what it would be) to hang above the window in my kitchen.  I had been looking for something for that spot, and was tickled to find this piece.  I knew I had scored a true find when a woman came up and begged to know where on earth I had found that.  I also got a sweater with a feathery/furry looking neck that I will wear to the two holiday parties that we have to go to this year.  Now I just need to find a sequin-y tank to go under it... anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find such an item??  I already have a long black skirt to wear with this ensemble, so I will be set... that is a good feeling!

Now I am headed towards bed since last night was so hit or miss in the sleep department.  Thanks for letting me sort through my weekend with you all.  Hope you all have a great week!  I know I am looking forward to a fun week of Thanksgiving preparations.

Actually, and please don't take this wrong, I liked reading about your weekend more than the recipes. Really don't enjoy cooking that much, but love reading about families fun experience- with exception to your baby being under the weather. So, I am glad you all had a good weekend. Thank you for sharing it. Hope your Thanksgiving is awesome.
