Christmas Reflections
Yesterday was not my best Christmas ever. The days preceding it were promising. The shopping, the parties, the planning-- everything seemed to be in order. Then yesterday I just woke up not feeling ready to face the day. I literally felt like I had taken a drug that made me sluggish and lethargic. I felt incapable of being "up" for the big day. I didn't feel like seeing my kids open gifts. I didn't have that joy that I spoke on this year. I felt robbed and cheated. What was wrong with me? I know one thing was I was exhausted. And overcommitted. After our morning company left-- and before our evening company arrived (yes, I cooked both of those meals)-- I took a nice nap. I felt a bit better, but still not up to snuff as they say down here in the south.
So, today I feel much better. A bit more ready for life. A bit kinder in my heart towards my family. Today we are going shopping with the rest of America. We have some returns and some gift cards burning holes in our pockets. My husband will head out to finally-- after years of wanting one-- buy his long awaited IPod. Our children all got IPods from the same aunt who gave us plane tickets last year. (We love her!) Now daddy has the bug big time-- and a collection of gift cards to fund this purchase.
I have not one, but two, Barnes and Noble gift cards. I hope to head over there if not today, then one day this week. Talk about a kid in a candy store! I also got a gift certificate to finally go to the New Balance store and get the running shoes I have been wanting. Now I will have no more excuses not to run!
I hope you all had a nice Christmas. I am so glad we enjoyed Christmas Eve, and went to church to pause in the midst of all our celebrating and focus on Christ. Because, to be honest, with the funk I was in and having company and cooking and a war zone of scattered toys and wrapping paper to clean up constantly-- there wasn't much focusing being done yesterday. And that makes me sad. I missed Jesus on His birthday. I am ashamed to admit it but grateful for grace because on Christmas, as always, I needed it.
