Marybeth's Musings on
Motherhood and More
|
My blogging friend Kathy wrote this to me and it was too good not to share with all of you-- I LOVE her image of life being overflowing instead of busy-- A mere turn of phrase but SUCH a difference in attitude... she has so captured how I have been feeling... Perhaps this is what Jesus was talking about when he said that He came so that we could have life and have it to the FULL!
Here is what she wrote:
I tried to comment on your blog, but I guess when you had to filter out the odd balls I got filtered too! Anyway I could so feel the pace of your days and the craziness that consumes so many moms. I wouldn’t apologize for not blogging, it only makes everyone feel like they are not alone in their desire for peace. I loved the image of your peaceful moment in the sand. We’re hoping to get in a beach trip this summer too.
Anyway…back to your busy comment. Below is the first paragraph of my Christmas letter two years ago. I got so tired of saying how busy I was I decided to come up with something different. Here it is:
And the joy of the LORD will fill you to overflowing. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 41:16
This year I’ve tried to stop saying the word busy. “How are you?” I’m asked. “Busy” I reply. DUH. Life is something besides busy. In an attempt to do away with the negativity of my reply I began to say “I’m living BIG” and “Life is overflowing”. Some days life at our house overflows like the potty Graham has dumped twelve sheets of TP into – messy and frustrating. But other days it overflows like the hot fudge sundaes the kids make. The fudge slips right off the ice cream and down the sides of the bowl. If they’re fast enough they can grab that clump of sweetness with their tongues before it hits the table. (and before I scold them for letting it hit the table) The sweet overflow is a bonus.

I have come to really dislike the word "busy". It seems like such a lame excuse sometimes, especially when people use it to defend themselves when they were late, or didn't get something done on time. And, like, I'M NOT BUSY? That seems to be the way of life anymore. I need to be careful with how much I heap on myself, and ask for God's help in ordering my days.
BTW, I loved your Proverbs31 devo this morning!!!
