i read the flylady testimony the other day that said instead of a TO DO list this woman makes a GOALS list. It struck a chord with me so that is what I did today. I made a list of the things that were bugging me the most and that is what I focused on today. WOW! What a difference those few words made. Of course it's all in my head, but who cares?! It worked for me this time!
My "goals" for today were pretty simple, but things I put off until forever. There were: coffee table cleaned (cleared, decluttered, and polished), adult laundry (cleaned, put away), Spencer & Lindsey's laundry put away (instead of in the baskets in the living room they'd been living in for a couple of weeks), socks sorted (so we don't have to sort and match every morning), dishwasher unloaded, food scraps tossed.
The coffee table was so cluttered that we spilled cans of pop on it and off of it twice in the last two days, geesh. I gave it a good polish too, even the legs! I've been focusing on washing the laundry that just Ty and I produce, he was a little grumbly this morning about a couple of sweatshirts he needed to wear to work that were still in the dirty hamper. After getting our washed I put them away. I sorted all the socks, and sadly it only took about 20 minutes, but has been put of FOREVER! They are all put away too, except for Chances, his are still on his bed. As I was putting Ty and my socks away, I drug all the ones out of the drawers and tossed, tossed, tossed. Pretty much, if they were in the drawers and we disliked them enough to spend time sorting through the sock basket, then we didn't need them taking up space.
As I put Lindsey and Spencer's clothes away, I also went through their drawers and took out the shorts and tank-tops and stained, etc. clothes and either put in a bag for charity or the bin for next year. Also got the dishwasher unloaded and reloaded, no biggie there, just had to make myself do it. Same with the tossing of the food scraps, we don't have a "real" compost pile, but we do live by the woods, so I toss the scraps in there for the animals. I also hand-washed two baking sheets, that is something else I normally put off until the end of time. Oh, and I also changed the sheets on my bed and reorganized some blankets, sheets and dust ruffles that were taking up floor space in my bedroom. WOW! Still a lot to do, but I did accomplish my goals, so I feel great!
Hopefully once I tackle this clutter demon, we will start socializing more. Ty is usually embarrassed by the condition I leave the house in. I'm setting out to change that, one baby step at a time. |
