Since our table was covered in way to many projects, I held our "Family Meeting" during dinner. I didn't actually call it a meeting, but we were able to cover several topics that had been playing on my mind. First of all, we determined that we will be doing one day with no TV or computer, and that will be either Mondays or Tuesdays since that is my husband's day off. I actually expected to have a lot of resistance from the kids on that one, but they were all for it. In fact, Spencer just requested that we make both days TV free. Ty is a little concerned I think, but the kids were so excited about it he didn't say anything negative about it at all.
We also decided that we will drive around one day this week to see the Christmas lights people have on their houses, still need to determine a day yet though. Also, I informed the kids that we will be going to church again, but only on Sunday evenings when our church offers activities for each age group and a service for the adults too. I'm hoping Ty will join us, but I won't be holding my breath about it. I actually prefer the Sunday morning service over the Sunday evening one, but one is better than none I think.
I think that is all we covered, but it was really more just talking over dinner than an actual meeting. At least I got the main topics covered, and I'll plan a more complete meeting for next Sunday. I've been researching the topic of Family Meetings on the web and have come up with some good suggestions of topics, formats, etc. I plan on putting an agenda sign-up sheet on the fridge so everyone in the family can write down topics that they want brought up. We might have to have several meetings for things to even resemble what would be considered a meeting, if it ever does. But I'm okay with that, I just want a set time for all of us to sit down and discuss and plan things as a family. I'll try to keep a post weekly of our meetings, to keep me on track. |
