Body Clutter - Chapter One

Posted in BODY CLUTTER

My friend, Adrienne, and I are reading the book Body Clutter together and decided to journal our answers on our blogs.  It's a very thought provoking book, and I sure hope it helps me better understand my own body clutter.   The first chapter deals with comfort food.

What is my first memory of comfort food?

The first things that come to my mind are cake batter and pop.  Notice I said cake batter, not cake itself.

What is my favorite food when I need comforting?

Something sweet and creamy - cake batter is the first choice, but will take whatever is readily available.

Why do I love it so much?

As a child, my mom used to let me lick the beaters and clean the bowl when she'd make a cake.  Maybe it made me feel special?

First memory of using food to comfort myself, what was happening to me and how I felt at the time?

I'd make cake batter and eat it by the spoonful until nearly making myself sick to my stomach.  Looking back, I'd make it when feeling sad:  got feelings hurt, lonely, overwhelmed, or just plain blue.  Made it a lot when we were having marital problems.  Will still make it when I feel down in the dumps.

I just put this book on hold at our library. Sounds like it would be an interesting book to read.

My issues are definetly sweets. I justify eating small sweets, but as I get older even those 'small' treats are hanging on my hips .. LOL.

Thanks for sharing about this book.

wow! Now that is powerful! That is wonderful that you can put a finger on it like that. The presentation was not a requirement at all, just something that we wanted to do as part of our community service. (also not a requirement) A Jefferson Award is given in recognition of community service. It is kind of a big deal here, that is why I was so floored when they nominated us. I have never heard of a child getting a nomination before, so we will definetly stick out.

Wow,
we have really enjoyed learning about your family.
We have a blog here as well, although I haven't touched it since last year. Must get into it again.
It will be great to read about all your goings on, now that we know you.
Blessings,
Kym Beddall

One of the stories my parents like to embarrass me about is how they would find cake batter in my closet when I was a teenager. My mom would hide sweets and eat them when we were in bed, so I guess this was my way of getting something sweet.
LOL, how embarrassing....

So I wonder if I'm starting bad habits in my kids? I mean giving them those all important beaters to lick! It just taste better not cooked! Sorry I'm not helping, but I love batter of just about any type(of course the sweeter the better)! =)
