My Goal for "FIX-IT FRIDAY"

Posted in FIX-IT FRIDAY

I've decided to start a new category and title it "FIX-IT FRIDAY".  I'd love to know how to encourage others to join me in this, but I'm a little blog-illiterate.  I can get on here and post my entries, give comments, and change the template ever so slightly, but beyond that - fugetaboutit!

Anyhow, I have a bazillion things I want to do around the house that I hope to do one per week and I've assigned myself Fridays to do whatever I need to do to complete them.  The first one I plan to do is assemble three first-aid kits.  Initially I thought I'd do one big one and keep it in my bathroom, but I think I'll also add two smaller ones, one each for the other bathroom and my van.  Here is a list of supplies I plan to include and since this Friday is payday, I chose this task to do first since there are several things I need to replenish.

  • Two pairs of sterile gloves.
  • Sterile dressings to stop bleeding.
  • Cleansing agent/soap and antibiotic towelettes to disinfect.
  • Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.
  • Burn ointment to prevent infection.
  • Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes.
  • Adhesive tape (to make bandages)
  • Nonstick Sterile Pads: these are soft, superabsorbent pads that provide a good environment for wound healing. These are recommended for bleeding and draining wounds, burns, infections.
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Tongue depressor blades
  • Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
  • Regular blanket (for car only)
  • Rescue blanket (car)
  • Bottle of water (car)
  • Ready to eat foods (car)
  • Wind-up radio (car)
  • Shake-up Flashlight (car)
  • Ibuprofen
  • Anti-itch medications, like hydrocortizone cream.
  • An antihistamine, like Benadryl, for allergic reactions.
  •  Antacid
  • Elastic bandages and safety pins
  • Instant cold packs
  • Sunscreen
  • Eyewash solution
  • Needle (for splinters)
  • Sting-Kill meds
  • Sling
  • Cotton Balls
  • Cotton swabs
  • Plastic zip top bags (car, for severed fingers or cleaning up hazardous material, etc.)

Many of these I already have, for the most part just the medicines are what need replenished.  I've been wanting to do this for a long time and hopefully this is the nudge I need to get it done.  I'll post a pic and a price list of what I spent to assemble them.

About Me

The ramblings of a mother / wife / homeschooler. I love what I do and hope to encourage others to follow their heart and bring their children home to learn. I've seen the village, and I don't want it raising my children.
