Geography Swap Box - Austrailia
We received our swap box from the Beddall family in Queensland, Austrailia a couple of days ago. What a great and informative bunch of stuff. The also sent each of the kids a cool keychain that features an image of their local money, a small koala who's arms can be pinched open to hang on your shirt, and a pack of play money that we also split between them. I also got a cool pen with Austrailia on it. In addition to all that fun stuff, we got several pamphlets on the local area of Queensland. The Steve Irwin Zoo was a popular pamphlet with my kids.
They also sent a personal letter with photos showing us their family, home and wildlife right in their backyard. Our box to them was sent out today and they should receive it within 4 days (that just amazes me!). I can't wait for them to get it, I sure hope they'll enjoy all we sent to them, I think they will. |

Geography Swap Box Sign-up
I've had a lot of people interesting in how we got hooked up with the group that does the geography exchange boxes. If you go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hsshoeboxswap/ you will be able to sign up too. Be sure after you sign up to read all the notes in the files section BEFORE asking questions to the group. All questions can be answered in that area. It will direct you to sign up your family in the database area. It's all really simple and is a whole lot of fun. My kids and I really enjoy getting our boxes assembled to share with that months partner, we learn a lot about our state and local attractions by doing this. |

Geography Swap - MONTANA - Our Box Has Arrived!!!!
We got our box this weekend from our assigned homeschool shoebox swap partner from Montana. WOW! What a lot of great stuff they sent us! Here is a list of some of the wonderful things they sent:
Personal, handwritten letter from the mom
Personal, handwritten letters from the children, how adorable (will be adding these to the boxes we send out from now on)
Beautiful, artistic drawings from one of their children
A variety of "Pocket Games," one per child (had $1.00 sticker on them, so they thankfully kept costs to a minimum)
"Super Play Sets", one per child (contains jump rope, yoyo, whistle, and set of jacks each)
A zippered bag with a variet of river rocks and a real cactus piece (I picked it up and tried to feel what it was, just took a milisecond to realize "OUCH, that's a cactus!" LOL)
Two much larger river rocks with striking colors on them
"Rural Montana" magazine of their electric coop
"Montana's Gold West Country" magazine
Pamphlets on - Museum of the Rockies, Montana's Missouri River Country, Montana's Museum, Eagle Rider Adventure Ranch, Lewis & Clark Caverns, Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, Glacier National Park, Shelby Montana Your Crossroads to Fun, Fort Benton, Great Falls Historic Trolley, Valier, Ulm Pishkun State Park, road map of Northwestern State - Provinces
Booklet "Montana's Cultural Treasures"
This swap was for February, and for March we are swapping with a family in Austrailia. I can't wait! |

Wisconsin Shoebox Exchange
We received our package from our swap partners today. We were paired with a family in Wisconsin for the month of January. Here is a pic of all the goodies that sprang from their package:

We all went nuts over the great fish poster. Some of the other goodies they included was a pencil, recipe booklet, postcards, several brochures and catalogs, not to mention the poster and a personal letter about their state and family. I hope they like what we sent to them as much as we have enjoyed what they sent here. |

Traveling Geography Journal Update
A couple of months ago we sent our three traveling geography journal, but only one is making it's way around the globe. I'd like to start the other two off anew and would like to send one each to people that will do what is required when you receive it (very easy actually). Here is the link that tells more about it, this information will come attached to the journal - www.homeschoolblogger.com/chaspelin/225086 . Please, I must beg of you, only volunteer if you can honestly continue it as we request. We understand these won't have as much time to travel, but some is better than none. If you are interested, please leave me a comment and I will contact you for your mailing address. Or contact me at the email link in the sidebar and I will let you know. I only have two to send, so it will be first come first served. Thanks so much for anyone willing to do it. Please refer to the link above to see what to expect, but comment here. Thanks! |
