PLEASE Come to This Meeting!!!

Posted at 1:34 PM on Dec. 30, 2008
Hello Friends:

I hope you will take a few minutes to read this.  And pass it on!

MCCHEO is going through a transition phase.  We are down in membership as well as attendance at meetings.  It is time for us to take a step back and re-evaluate MCCHEO's role and usefulness in the local homeschool community.  The January meeting will be devoted to discussing MCCHEO.  We encourage current and former members, as well as new homeschoolers, to join us to discuss what our support group is going to be in the future.  It will be a roundtable discussion so come ready to share your observations and ideas.  If you can not attend the meeting, but have some thoughts to share, please e-mail me by January 12th and I will bring your comments to the meeting.

The meeting will take place on Monday, January 12th in the community room behind Winan's coffee house in downtown Troy from 6:30-8:00. (Community Room is accessed by walking THROUGH Winan's to the back of the store.)  I hope you will make every effort to attend and help decide the future of MCCHEO.

Also, due to work and family obligations, Stephanie Ruby has stepped down as meeting coordinator.  We want to thank Stephanie for filling in these first few months of the school year and wish her all the best.

Sincerely,

Kelly Snyder

P.S. from Kim Wolf:  I would just like to take the time to remind everyone that a SUPPORT GROUP and a CO-OP are 2 VERY DIFFERENT THINGS!!  A co-op is great for classes and learning opportunities ~ BUT ~ a support group is where iron sharpens iron.  It's where we find out about what works/doesn't work for our families, about legislation, about state and national opportunities, where speakers come to share their knowledge and experience and where we can lean on each other's shoulders.  Yes, co-ops are valuable and have their place, but the support groups are what saved and 'supported' the homeschool movement.  They are the glue that held the movement together and gave it it's power and strength to endure when local families were going to court and threatened with jail and losing their children - before 1989 when our Ohio laws were enacted.  It’s leadership is who steps in-between dishonest superintendents and YOU when there are problems.  A a past leader - and before that, a member who NEEDED what McCHEO offers - I am asking that you not let McCHEO die.  It is very well one of those things that you don't know what it has meant and what you have until it's gone.
