Anyone else have siblings that like to argue and fight on occasion? Well today I decided on a new form of discipline. (Well it is not new, I did it with ds last year, but have not been consistent with it lately.)
So anyway today DD kicked ds because she was mad at him, then he kicked her. So I made them both write apologies to each other. Well dd is not able to spell, but I wrote hers and made her trace it and draw something on it for him.
Then I made them read the letters to each other and hug.
This was first occurence. I told them if they did it again they would write aplogies and the rules they violated. In our home we have the 21 Rules of this House posted on the fridge. If another occurrence happened they would also write a scripture in addition to it.
Rule # 6 is: We do not hurt one another with unkind words or deeds.
Rule #7 is: When someone needs correction, we correct them in love.
Rule #21 is: When we disobey or forget any of the rules of this house, we accept discipline and instruction.

Yep, siblings fight, but amazingly our boys don't get physical usually. We have tried (very hard) to instill in them the "honor system"... meaning that if it does not honor God and others, then it's NOT okay in our home. This simple rule covers words, acts, thoughts, etc. We have a few other family rules, but honor prevails over all. It is most difficult to stick to when we're faced with others who dishonor us.
Also, looking back at your previous blogs... the shoe box ministry is such a good thing. We included our address in our boxes, and 2 years later got a letter from a boy in Togo, Africa. Very neat!!!
Sorry this comment has turned into a novel!!! :)
Greenly yours,
