• Sep. 23, 2005 - What is your average school day length??

While I'm in the questioning mode...how many hours a day do you homeschool? I just started this year and I am beginning to feel like too much homeschooling has the opposite effect I desire. There is a burnout point, but I'd like to get some feedback from other homeschooling parents.

3-year-old here for school Wed, Thurs, Fri (preschool activites -really not a consistent program because she is just too little)

8-year-old, third grade - major perfectionist like her mother!

What is your average school day length??

We are unschoolers and so our "school" days have no beginning or end; we are always learning. This works for us... :)

I kind of break up our days. If I don't get to something during the day, I usually do it in the evenings. I find doing History in the evenings works best for me, and I do read alouds in late afternoon or evening too. Math is much better for us to get done in the morning. I try not to stay on a rigid schedule. I give lots of breaks for them to run around outside. I say my average is about 2 1/2 hours a day total. Some days it may be more, and some days I have errands to run and it is less.

What Do You Think?

I began homeschooling because:
the school system is overcrowded, underpaid, and therefore ineffective for my child.
God told me to.
my child did not want to go to school as a result of social issues.
my child has special needs and the school system did not have adequate programs in place to address them.
