• Oct. 5, 2005 - Do...not...rent...Huckabees...ever.

I was thinking today about this horrible, terrible, awful, indescribably inappropriate movie we happened upon last weekend.  If you are ever contemplating a movie to rent on date night or ANY night, and you see I Love Huckabees...RUN far and fast!  It was the most awful movie I have ever seen.  The description on the back of the movie sounded safe enough...in fact, interesting.  It was about a man who hired a couple investigators to help him determine the meaning of life.  Big names in the movie who apparently were a little off their rocker when accepting such scripts.  It was supposedly a comedy and noted with something like, "The most original comedy of the year!" and "Hilarious!"  Of course I give those comments hesitant value because it is the secular community that has voiced such praise.

Nonetheless, my hubby and I were looking for a laugh so we took the movie home and got anything but that.  From the first line (which is shocking in and of itself but we thought perhaps this may have been some sort of one-time attention getter) to the point we shut off the movie in disgust we were disappointed.  It was foul-mouthed, inappropriate, lewd, totally random and plotless.

I DESPISE Huckabees.

I just hate when a nice evening turns out like that. I wish they knew how to make movies without turning them into "religious twaddle" - mindless, brainless stuff with no plot or statement to make, without provoking any thought whatsoever OR on the flip side, fill it with so much garbage that even if a good story was under there you could hardly find it wading through the sewage. My friend Tina says you have to immediately watch a good movie you enjoy when you watch a bad one - so there's that piece of advice.

I enjoyed your blog - what I have read of it so far, and am very covetous and envious of your music. Any pointers you could put in my direction would be greatly appreciated!
Look forward to reading more!

• Oct. 6, 2005 - Your Halloween Poll

Posted by Harriette
I couldn't figure out how to add a comment on your Halloween poll way down on the righthandside of your blog.........so I'll add it here

"All of the Above"

Halloween has become a challenge for many, many Christian families - but I genuinely feel it is all of the top three things you have listed in your poll - though "harmless" is not the term.....don't quite have another - but I'm sure you get the jest of what I'm saying. I have several good books on how to celebrate (no - "participate" - no, enjoy??) - in the Halloween "stuff" but through teaching my children about its history, its dangers and how to keep it "in the light" as well as make it fun.....

About Me

Having just embarked on the homeschooling adventure this year, I have quickly come to realize that I am nothing more than my weblog title implies: a student with unlimited chalkboard privileges. I love the learning process and am so blessed to be given the opportunity to serve my children through homeschooling.

What Do You Think?

I began homeschooling because:
the school system is overcrowded, underpaid, and therefore ineffective for my child.
God told me to.
my child did not want to go to school as a result of social issues.
my child has special needs and the school system did not have adequate programs in place to address them.
