• Oct. 17, 2005 - Let there be music!...on MY blog update

Let me start by first saying I am SO sorry!  In my previous entry regarding adding music to your blogs, I gave you directions that would allow you to only view the file name in m3u format, which won't work on the webpage unless you convert it to mp3.  SO, to state this simply, I have updated the steps to include retrieving the mp3 format of the songs through Real Player.  It is vital to have the songs in mp3 format because otherwise your embedded music player won't recognize them.

I added The Red Hot Polka to my own "Now Playing..." feature because it is just so much fun!  Please, please, please, try adding music again and let me know if you have any hang ups!

• Oct. 17, 2005 - Bloglets Email Blog Subscription

I can't seem to get the Bloglet application to work!  I signed up and filled out all the required RSS feeds, but each time I try to do a test, it fails!  I can't figure it out.  Does anyone have this feature on their site that can offer some assistance?  We looked in the forum and did what we saw in there but it still won't work.  Thanks for any help!

**Oh yea!  Never mind!  I think I have the issue resolved.  There was one of two things wrong.  Either bloglet is case sensitive and they wanted the id in my server address (rss url) to be all lower case, or I had to add the RSS feed feature back to my blog.  So, whatever the hang up was, it tested successfully.  Please input your email into the box on my sidebar if you would like to be notified when there is a new post on my site.

• Oct. 12, 2005 - Let there be music!...on MY blog

Obeekaybee - the music lover community is rioting for the ability to post music to blogs!  I fell in love the idea myself when I happened upon
Aslan's blog before I ever even signed up for one of my own.  Oh, how the wheels turned in my head when I happened upon a site with a custom header, template AND music!  It was a challenge never even presented to me, but one I simply had to undertake.  So, to my delight, adding music is a breeze!

Here's how you do it.  If you are not hosting your own server, then the easiest way is to find a piece of music you like online.  I search CD Baby online because they have SO many unheard of artists and that is my passion.  However, I am sure there are other sites with more popular music as well if you look around.  However, let's just say you do use CD Baby...

1. So, you decide you like Chris "Whitey" Anderson: http://cdbaby.com/cd/chrisanderson1

2. And you are a BIG polka fan (hey, I REALLY do like this song!)  Click on the song to start it playing.  My computer default to using Real Player for music.  Once Real Player opens, press the "Ctrl" key and the letter "I" on your keyboard simultaneously.  This will pull up the "File Name" in mp3 format: http://audio.cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/c/h/chrisanderson1-02.mp3

This is the URL to this particular song.  Copy it by highlighting the address only and right clicking to reveal the copy function.  Left click on "Copy".

**Use .mp3 file extensions only.

3.  Now you are going to want to plug in the code in your template on your blog site.  Just paste the following wherever you want your music bar to display (DELETE the white quotation mark  either before or after you have pasted it in your template, as they are only there so that you can see the code):

<"EMBED SRC"="
http://cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/chrisanderson1-02.m3u" HEIGHT="50" WIDTH="180" BGCOLOR="#000000" AUTOSTART="true">

You will change the http:// address to whatever music you want to enjoy for the day.  Remember, just follow the directions in step 2 to get the correct address to the particular song and plug it in right there.

4.  You can see that I have added a category to place this under on my own sidebar.  You can do the same with the standard code.  You can change the background color of the audio bar by changing the BGCOLOR.  Mine is currently set to black because that is the color of my background.  You can change the size of the player as well by changing your HEIGHT and WIDTH ratio.  Lastly, you can make it start automatically when people enter your page (good idea to put it in a pretty visible place if this is the case so people can turn it off if they want to - some people just don't appreciate the same music!) or you can set the AUTOSTART feature to "false" so that your visitors can start it all by themselves.

So, hopefully you plugged a little polka in your browser for the test because your victory dance would be so much more fun to polka than anything else I can think of!

Do post a comment if you add music.  I would like to find out what you groove to too.  Hey "to too" sounds kind of like tutu...ha ha!  There's an idea...polka in a tutu!

Please forgive me..I was forced to express the horribly elementary aspects of the human thought process...

• Sep. 19, 2005 - You can count on it...literally

I also happened upon a great reference in the FAQs for a counter and have installed it on my site today.  It is very detailed in that you can view a report that shows you who logged into your site, from what city and state and what service provider.  It will be pretty exciting to see the confirmation that people from around the states, or even around the world, have access to my silly little site!

• Sep. 19, 2005 - Audio Avalanche

So I got a bit curious the other day as I perused the random blogs.  I happened upon a Bravehart blog...yes, you all know the one I am speaking of!  I was so impressed with the audio links that I just HAD to figure out how to apply it to my own site!  I am thrilled to say that with much prayer and persistence I have functioning audio on my own site!  Yea!!!

I really am very excited about this because I am a collector of quotes.  Language is so incredible in that it has the ability to express so MUCH, so perfectly, in so few words.  I intend to create a non-audio catagory of quotes as well so keep your eyes out for those!

The quotes you'll find to the right simply give you a little insight into my quirky nature.  They have either made me laugh out loud or reflect deeply.  These are two essentials that I have come to realize a stay-at-home-mom can often be deprived of in the business of her day.  So, click away and enjoy!

Curiosity killed the cat, but it revived the homeschool mom!

About Me

Having just embarked on the homeschooling adventure this year, I have quickly come to realize that I am nothing more than my weblog title implies: a student with unlimited chalkboard privileges. I love the learning process and am so blessed to be given the opportunity to serve my children through homeschooling.

What Do You Think?

I began homeschooling because:
the school system is overcrowded, underpaid, and therefore ineffective for my child.
God told me to.
my child did not want to go to school as a result of social issues.
my child has special needs and the school system did not have adequate programs in place to address them.
