• Oct. 28, 2005 - Why do you homeschool? - Poll results to date

Posted in Web Polls

The new poll on the sidebar is lagging behind the Halloween poll severly.  I have my prediction as to why.  Something having to do with the fact that most people who visit the site don't necessarily scroll down and see the poll, the fact that the polls are housed on a secular site and I believe A LOT of the responses came directly from those who came across it on misterpoll.com, not to mention this poll has only been up for a week.  However, I would LOVE to hear what it was that motivated ya'll to begin homeschooling so mosey on over to the sidebar and take your pickins!

( 7 total votes)   I began homeschooling because:

42%... (I added my own comment).

14%...the school system is overcrowded, underpaid, and therefore ineffective for my child.

14%...my child did not want to go to school as a result of social issues.

14%...my child has special needs and the school system did not have adequate programs in place to address them.

You can read what other had to say about this topic or if you chose "(I added my own comment)" you can physically add the comment to the original post by clicking here...

If you do add your own comment, don't forget to choose that option on the quiz itself so we add you into the stats!

• Oct. 21, 2005 - Homeschooling: the right choice or simply exercising the right to choose?

Posted in Web Polls

There are a lot of reasons homeschooling parents begin to do so.  This week I was chatting with a dear friend of mine and we discussed that God calls some people to homeschool and other not to homeschool.  We also mentioned that sometimes we homeschool only for a season and then our children move into the public school system to be a light.  SO, in light of these truths, I ask you to contemplate the question my title solicits.  Homeschooling: is it the right choice for your family or simply you exercising the right to choose?

I have known some die-hard homeschoolers who claim it is the only way, and then there are the homeschoolers who have claimed this responsibility, but then felt that perhaps God didn't actually call them to it in the first place.  Sometimes we do things simply because they are the "Christian" thing to do or the "popular" thing to do or even the "right" thing to do, without ever having received conviction regarding them.  This question is an opportunity to be sure that all of our decisions...even the "right" ones are right for the right reason.

So, I have added another quiz to the sidebar under the Halloween poll and would love it if you all would participate and share what initiated your journey on the road to homeschooling.  If you choose to post your own comment, please do so here.

• Oct. 11, 2005 - Halloween poll gathers votes...what's your opinion?

Posted in Web Polls

The latest update on the Halloween poll can be seen below.  The votes keep coming in!  Now we are 21 more than the last update on the 8th so people apparently have an opinion to share.  If you have not take the poll, please do so by scrolling the right sidebar about a quarter of the way down.

I am considering the next quiz content and while debating ideas thought, "Hey, I know!  I could take a poll on what polls everyone would be interested in!"  Okay, perhaps it's a little quirky but don't be surprised it you see it pop up in the near future!

(83 total votes)   I see Halloween as:

67%... a harmless holiday for fun, dress up, community interaction and candy collecting.

12%...an opportunity to pass out tracks and shine a light on what could, otherwise, be perceived as a day of darkness.

10%...(I added my own comment).

9%...Satan's holiday.

• Oct. 8, 2005 - A harmless holiday for fun, dress up, community interaction and candy collecting...

Posted in Web Polls

So, I just about went into shock the other day when I checked the status of the online poll and it said that 52 people had taken it!  The time I looked prior it was at about 12 so it had taken a huge leap in the realm of statistics.  Today I checked again because I wanted to post the most current stats and here is where we sit:

(62 total votes)   I see Halloween as:

64%... a harmless holiday for fun, dress up, community interaction and candy collecting.

12%...an opportunity to pass out tracks and shine a light on what could, otherwise, be perceived as a day of darkness.

12%...Satan's holiday.

9%...(I added my own comment).

I will have this poll running through October so I am very interested in everyone's opinion.  If you have not taken the poll, please do so on my side bar.  If you chose "(I added my own comment)" you can physically add the comment to the original post by clicking here...

• Sep. 23, 2005 - Halloween: How do you feel about it?

Posted in Web Polls

This pumpkin was the perfect gif for this post because it shows a great range of emotions.  Halloween stirs in people many opinions; some are excited to dress up and trick or treat door to door, some are indifferent, and some are just plain sad that we acknowledge it as a holiday at all.

So, my question is this: Does your family participate in Halloween and why?

You can simply post a vote for one of the following...

I see Halloween as:

a. a harmless holiday for fun, dress up, community interaction and candy collecting.

b. Satan's holiday.

c. an opportunity to pass out tracks and shine a light on what could, otherwise, be perceived as a day of darkness.

d.  (fill in the blank regarding your own personal opinion/conviction and practices).

I plan to re-post this inquiry in about two weeks with the current compiled results - the more the better!

About Me

Having just embarked on the homeschooling adventure this year, I have quickly come to realize that I am nothing more than my weblog title implies: a student with unlimited chalkboard privileges. I love the learning process and am so blessed to be given the opportunity to serve my children through homeschooling.

What Do You Think?

I began homeschooling because:
the school system is overcrowded, underpaid, and therefore ineffective for my child.
God told me to.
my child did not want to go to school as a result of social issues.
my child has special needs and the school system did not have adequate programs in place to address them.
