Field Trip Idea for North Mississippi
This is the Grand opening week of Heathworks! in Tupelo, MS

Spearheaded by the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi, HealthWorks! is
a curriculum-based, interactive health education center that will offer hands-on learning
to area schoolchildren ages kindergarten through eighth grade. It will be housed in the
former Kroger building on Industrial Road in Tupelo.
Only the second center of its kind in the United States, it will replicate the
HealthWorks! Kids Museum created by Memorial Health System in South Bend. Its
purpose is two-fold—to enhance the health and science curricula for area schools and to
effect lifelong change for healthier lifestyles among area children.
Through humor, hands-on learning and interactive exhibits and presentations, the
HealthWorks! programs will educate students about proper nutrition, fitness, tobacco
prevention, oral health and puberty. Among the multitude of activities, students can visit
the Main Brain Theatre to get a peak inside a giant replica of the brain; climb the Skin
Crawl Wall as they learn about the body’s largest organ; and play interactive games to
track the path that food travels through the digestive system.
“HealthWorks! is not an entertainment venue; it is an education venue,” says Grace
Clark, who is chairing HCF’s capital campaign.
